Gervon Dexter dubbed Bears' most underrated player in 2025
The Chicago Bears have some big names on their roster, led by quarterback Caleb Williams, receiver DJ Moore, cornerback Jaylon Johnson and defensive end Montez Sweat. But there are some talented players who've flown under the radar, including defensive tackle Gervon Dexter.
Dexter, a second-round pick in 2023, was a pleasant surprise on defense in his first full season starting last year. He set career highs across the board in total tackles (51), tackles for loss (4), sacks (5.0), QB hits (19) and fumble recoveries (2). Unfortunately, Dexter's production took a hit after the loss of Andrew Billings. But he's still established himself as a key player along the defensive interior.
NFL.com's Gennaro Filice dubbed Dexter the most underrated player on the Bears roster.
Dexter started last season on a tear with four sacks and 10 QB hits in Chicago's first five games. He only recorded one sack and nine QB hits in his final 10 games, though, missing two contests due to a knee injury. To be fair, the second-year pro didn't have much support on the Bears' defensive interior, especially after fellow DT Andrew Billings suffered a season-ending injury in early November. But Ryan Poles fortified the D-line in free agency (adding Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett) and the draft (second-round pick Shemar Turner). With that influx of talent, Dexter could be set to move around the front more as a more versatile weapon in new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen's scheme.
Dexter has shown plenty of promise, and he stands to learn from a pair of veterans in Billings and free-agent addition Grady Jarrett, who should help elevate his game.
The Bears defense is undergoing some changes with the arrival of new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who's looking to employ and aggressive style of defense, and having a disruptive interior pass rusher like Dexter will do wonders for this unit.

Sovereignty wins the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes
Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty galloped to victory in muddy conditions at the 157th Belmont Stakes in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Saturday in the third leg of the Triple Crown. Sovereignty, who entered the race with 2-to-1 odds, defeated a field of seven challengers. Journalism finished in second place. The Belmont took place for a second consecutive time at the historic Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. The New York Racing Association temporarily relocated it there while Belmont Park on Long Island undergoes nearly half-a-billion dollars in renovations. USMNT falls to Turkey 2-1 in friendly for their 3rd consecutive loss
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Turkey took advantage of a sloppy defense to beat the United States 2-1 in a rainy friendly on Saturday, dealing the Americans their third straight loss as Arda Güler and Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored in a 2-minute, 20-second span midway through the first half. Jack McGlynn scored 59 seconds in for the U.S., which was missing many regulars as coach Mauricio Pochettino revamped his roster following a dismal performance at the CONCACAF Nations League final four in March. With a year to go before co-hosting the World Cup, the U.S. plays Switzerland on Tuesday at Nashville, Tenn., in another friendly, then opens the CONCACAF Gold Cup against Trinidad and Tobago on June 15. The Americans dropped to 5-4 under Pochettino, who took over after first-round elimination last year's Copa America led the U.S. Soccer Federation to fire coach Gregg Berhalter. They have lost three straight for the second time in a year. Coastal Carolina sweeps Auburn to reach College World Series for 2nd time
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Jacob Morrison and Hayden Johnson combined to scatter eight hits and Coastal Carolina defeated Auburn 4-1 on Saturday to sweep the Auburn Super Regional and reach the College World Series for the second time. The Chanticleers will try to duplicate the national championship they won in 2016. Morrison allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings. Johnson (5-0) came on in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts. Coastal Carolina's three-run seventh inning featured an RBI single by Walker Mitchell and a series of Auburn miscues led to the other two runs. With the scored tied 1-1 after Mitchell's single, he moved up a base on a single by Blagen Pado and scored from second on a throwing error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Ty Dooley. A walk by Ty Barrango loaded the bases and Coastal's third run scored when Wells Sykes was hit by a pitch. Mitchell drove in the final run with a single in the eighth inning. Cade Fisher (1-3) was on the mound in the sloppy seventh inning and allowed three runs, one earned, in 2 2/3 innings. Caden Bodine's 10th-inning home run early Saturday morning gave the Chanticleers a 7-6 victory in the first game. The Tigers played in the super regional round for the fifth time.
