Caitlin Clark's top insert card hits auction block in Goldin 100
The next milestone in the Caitlin Clark trading card market will likely arrive later this month when her most important insert card sells in the 2025 Summer Goldin 100. Lot No. 1 in the auction, bidding for Clark's 2024 Rookie Royalty WNBA Green Kaboom 1/1 will open Monday with a starting price of $50,000. Considered among the most important insert sets of the ultra-modern era, Kaboom cards feature comic book-inspired art and carry a significant premium on the secondary market. First created as a chase for Panini America's 2013-14 Innovation Basketball, Kaboom has since grown to become one of the most coveted cards for each of its subjects. Originally designed with a basic silver background, Panini has since added Gold parallels numbered to 10 and the Green 1/1. To date, the most expensive sale for any Clark insert, according to data tool Card Ladder's public records, is the $80,000 paid in a private sale for a Gold parallel in July. The highest recorded sale for a Kaboom of any athlete is the $225,000 paid in a private sale for a 2018 LeBron James Gold Kaboom /10 in 2024. The Clark card up for bid at Goldin also represents just the second Green Kaboom to achieve a BGS Pristine 10 grade. In total, Beckett has graded 93 Green Kabooms across all players and sports. To date, the most expensive sale for any Clark card is the $660,000 paid for the Flawless Logowoman 1/1 in July, the top card sale ever for a female athlete. Goldin didn't place a pre-sale estimate on the Green Kaboom, but the pairing of an ultra-rare insert in an ultra-rare grade positions the card to land among Clark's highest recorded sales. Angel Reese Sends Cryptic 3-Word Message Before Sky vs Sun
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Sky have lost 10 of their last 11 games, including eight of nine since the All-Star break, and the absence of star forward Angel Reese has likely been a big reason why. Reese, who leads the league in rebounding (12.6 per game) and leads the Sky in scoring (14.2 points per game) and ranks second on the team in assists (3.7 per game), has been dealing with a back injury that's sidelined for her for the last five games. Her official status is day-to-day, and she missed Chicago's 92-70 loss to the Indiana Fever (who were without their star Caitlin Clark) because she stayed in Chicago to rehab her injured back. The Sky are on pace to finish with their worst winning percentage since 2006 (.147), and some have wondered if the Sky, who are 8-23 and sit in 11th place in the WNBA standings, plan to shut her down for the rest of the season with just 13 regular-season games remaining and the Sky well out of the playoff picture. Hall wrote on X. "Do not risk that. Work towards next season. I don't want either one of them rushed back. Straight up. Seen way too many folks injured this season, including several big stars." While it's not known when (or if) Reese will play again this season, the 23-year-old LSU alum added some fuel to the fire regarding her return when she posted an ominous three-word message on social media Monday evening days before Chicago's next matchup against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday. "Please come back. We miss you. The W isn't the same without you," one fan wrote. "We miss you 🥰 Healing prayers for your mental and physical 🙏🏽 Take your time and only come back when you are ready 5," another fan commented. "Ready to see you back on the court 😭," a third fan exclaimed. "We need you back but please heal fully first. ❤️," remarked one user. "🫶🏾🫶🏾," another user replied. Like Clark, Reese coach hasn't been too forthcoming with specific details about when to expect to see her play next. But it's likely both teams are being cautious in easing their star players back into the mix. Chicago is just 1-7 without Reese this season, and with the team set to miss out on the playoffs for the second straight season, it wouldn't be completely surprising if Reese has played her last game this year.

Caitlin Clark making progress in recovery from groin injury but still not practicing with Fever
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White said Monday that All-Star guard Caitlin Clark is progressing from an injured right groin but still is not practicing. Clark has not played since suffering the injury in the final minute of an 85-77 victory over Connecticut on July 15. Team officials have already ruled her out of Tuesday's matchup against rookie Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. There's still no timetable for when one of the league's most popular players could return. 'No return to practice, she's been able to get a little bit more of her full-court running with all of her body weight,' White said following practice. 'It's really building up from doing minimal to building some endurance to do longer periods of time. She's been able to do a little more on the court in terms of how she moves, but not into practice shape.' Clark began full-court running last week. Three different muscle injuries have forced Clark to miss 19 of 32 games. Indiana is 10-9 without Clark including a 6-2 mark over its last eight games — despite losing two more guards, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald, with season-ending injuries. Colson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during last week's loss at Phoenix. McDonald will be out with a broken bone in her right foot, which happened in the same game. Yet with only nine active players and no true point guards, Indiana still managed to rout the rival Chicago Sky 92-70 on Saturday. The Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract Sunday. Sims averaged 11.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds during her 11-year career, which included an All-Star selection in 2019. Clark, last season's WNBA Rookie of the Year, was averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds before her latest injury. The Fever went all-in on putting a title-winning supporting cast around Clark during the offseason. And even with Clark out, Indiana is 18-14 and fifth in the league standings, close enough to still be in the mix for home-court advantage in the first round. ____ AP WNBA:
