made rare comments about her daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14.
She shares her daughters with husband Keith Urban, 57, and in a new cover story with Allure, the actress opened up about how parenting has helped her better understand herself.
'I'm very close to both my girls. I sit on their beds and discuss the most intimate things; I get to be their guide,' Nicole, 57, told the publication.
The Nine Perfect Strangers star also said she and her daughters respect each other's boundaries.
'If they want to tell me to be quiet, they can. I'm able to apologize to them. I'm able to stand up to them.

'I very much like the relationship we have. It's nice to be able to say that,' she said.
The Perfect Couple star is known for taking risks with the roles she chooses.
She's played everything from a neurosurgeon (Days of Thunder) to a wellness guru (Nine Perfect Strangers) to a victim of domestic abuse (Big Little Lies).
But there's one role she says she'll never take on: starring opposite her husband in a movie or television show.
'We're together in life, so we don't need to do our show together,' she told People at the season two premiere of Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers.
'Our life is a show,' she added.
She was also asked if she'd be into a role where all the characters she's played before existed in one project.
'That's hilarious. I'd be up for it,' she said. 'As you know, I'm up for most things. I like to be able to say I'm game. So I'm always ready to try things.
'I have a huge passion for what I do. I love doing what I do, and I've been incredibly fortunate in my journey, and I'm just always a bit excited.

'I don't take any of it for granted. I'm like, "Okay, thank you. Thank you, universe,"' she added.
The Days of Thunder star also revealed why she was so keen to return to her role as the guru Masha on Nine Perfect Strangers.
'Because she's fun and powerful, and [castmate] Maisie [Richardson-Sellers] said something like, "Masha sharks it."
'So I was like, "What does that mean?" But I think that means she's a shark. She comes in, and I don't get to play sharks very often,' Kidman explained.
Nicole has been busy with a steady flow of work over the last two years, appearing in the seductive blockbuster Babygirl, Netflix's murder mystery The Perfect Couple, season two of Lioness, and the romcom A Family Affair to name a few.
While promoting her latest film, called Holland, at SXSW Film & TV Festival in March, Nicole said she's ready to take a step back from work.
'I was much more out there last year; this year I have Holland, I have Nine Perfect Strangers, and then I'm off for the rest of year. So, oh well!' she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Although Nicole only mentioned two roles to THR, last September Amazon Prime announced that she will star in the mystery thriller Scarpetta, expected to be released sometime this year.
She also has a role in David E. Kelley's forthcoming Margo's Got Money Troubles alongside Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer.
And viewers are still anxiously awaiting the third season of Big Little Lies (also written by Kelley), which has been confirmed while other details remain unknown.
Season two of the buzzed about Hulu series takes place in the Austrian Alps and follows a group who have signed up for a multi-day wellness retreat.
They're led by Russian guru Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman), who uses psychedelic therapy as a healing practice.
An official synopsis reads: 'Over the course of a week, she takes them to the brink. Will they make it? Will she?
'Masha is willing to try anything in the interest of healing everyone involved, including herself.'
