Yankees bash four homers in victory over Twins
Warren (7-5) allowed three hits while guiding the Yankees to just their third win in 10 games. He became the first Yankees starter to complete at least six innings since he did so on July 30 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Warren served up homers to Byron Buxton and Trevor Larnach during his longest outing since May 9. The right-hander struck out seven and did not allow a walk for the second time in 25 starts this season.
Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice homered in the first three innings off Minnesota's Zebby Matthews (3-4). Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the eighth off Erasmo Ramirez as the Yankees hit at least four homers for the 13th time this season.
Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge added RBI singles in the seventh as the Yankees improved to 25-7 against the Twins in the past 32 regular-season meetings.
The Twins, who had won four of their previous five games, managed only three hits.
Bellinger opened the scoring when he drove a 2-2 fastball out to right seats with two outs in the first. It was Bellinger's first homer in 11 games.
Stanton put the Yankees up 2-0 with two outs in the third when he hammered a first-pitch fastball into the New York bullpen beyond the right-center-field fence. It was Stanton's 10th homer in his past 25 games and 440th of his career, tying Jason Giambi for 44th on the all-time list.
Rice followed Stanton's blast by making it back-to-back blasts, driving a 2-2 slider into the right field seats.
Warren took a shutout into the sixth until Buxton hit an 0-1 sweeper into the left field seats with two outs. Warren was one strike away from completing a 1-2-3 seventh when Larnach sent a full-count curveball into the right field seats, the final pitch from the New York starter.
Luke Weaver took over on the mound and wound up getting four outs. David Bednar finished up a non-save situation with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Matthews allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He tied his career best with nine strikeouts and walked one.

The incident comes three years after Garrett was hospitalized after he flipped his Porsche in a single-vehicle crash. He was traveling 65mph in a 45mph zone before driving off the side of the road, striking a ditch and fire hydrant. The defensive end suffered a sprained shoulder, strained biceps and had several cuts and bruises from the wreck. Saturday's stop was the eighth time Garrett has been cited for speeding since being drafted first overall in 2017 out of Texas A&M. Garrett, the 2023 defensive player of the year, signed a four-year contract extension with the Browns, which includes $123.5m guaranteed, earlier this year. The Brown have not commented on the incident. They are scheduled to travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday for two joint practices and a preseason game. Another high-profile member of the Browns, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was pulled over twice for speeding prior to training camp. In one of the incidents, Sanders was pulled over for going 91mph in a 65mph zone.

Royals turn to Seth Lugo in bid to sweep Nationals
August 13 - If the Kansas City Royals are to make a serious final push at the postseason, star pitcher Seth Lugo likely needs to get back on track from a recent subpar stretch. The veteran right-hander has also had some issues against the Washington Nationals during his career. Looking to rebound from his worst outing of the season, Lugo will try solve the Nationals on Wednesday and help the Royals sweep this three-game home set. Since signing a two-year, $46 million extension to stay with Kansas City last month, Lugo (8-6, 3.46 ERA) is 1-1 with a 7.53 ERA in three starts, none of which lasted six innings. On Friday at Minnesota, the 35-year-old allowed season highs of seven runs and nine hits while lasting just four innings in the Royals' 9-4 loss. "I think you just flush that one," Lugo said. "I feel like even executed pitches were getting hit, mistakes we're getting hit. "It's not ideal." Especially with Kansas City a .500 club and chasing three teams to just to reach wild-card position in the American League in the final weeks of the season. However, the Royals are 10-4 over their past 14 home games. They have won four straight in Kansas City after outscoring Washington 15-9 during the first two games of a series that is kicking off a 10-game homestand. "For the offense, it's great. They build the confidence," Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro said. "There is a lot to like." This will be Lugo's 40th appearance against Washington, but he is just 1-4 with a 6.59 ERA in six starts vs. the Nationals. Padres' relief corps shuts down skidding Giants
August 13 - Jose Iglesias and Jackson Merrill hit home runs, four San Diego relievers combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and the Padres made it two in a row over the San Francisco Giants with a 5-1 road triumph on Tuesday. Ramon Laureano doubled, single and scored twice for the Padres, who won their fourth game in a row. After the teams traded single runs in the first inning, San Diego took the lead for good when Laureano opened the second with a single and jogged home on Iglesias' two-run homer to left field. It was Iglesias' first long ball of the season. San Diego tacked on single runs in the fourth (on an RBI double by Jake Cronenworth, scoring Laureano) and in the eighth (on Merrill's ninth homer of the year). Giants starter Robbie Ray (9-6) yielded four runs in six innings. He allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four. San Francisco lost its fourth game in a row. Down 1-0 after Ray balked home Manny Machado in the top of the first, the Giants immediately got even when Casey Schmitt doubled, went to third on a single by Rafael Devers and scored on a two-out infield hit by Wilmer Flores.
