Vantage Bridge I-90 lane closures return 24/7 after July 4: What drivers need to know

You've got two more weekends of smooth traveling on eastbound I-90 across the Vantage Bridge, but after the 4th of July, the 24/7 lane restrictions return.
This is the second year of work on the 60-year-old Vantage Bridge over the Columbia River. For the last few months, WSDOT has closed a lane in each direction on Mondays through Thursdays, but reopened the lanes for weekend travel. That will be changing soon.
'After the 4th of July, we're going to close it down 24/7 for those single lane closures in each direction,' Summer Derrey, communications specialist for the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), said. 'Labor Day weekend will be the final weekend when all the lanes will be open, and then the lane restrictions will remain until work is stopped by the weather sometime in November.'
Drivers need to be prepared for the return of long delays through the area, especially on Friday and Sunday afternoons.
'This is a recreational route,' Derrey said. 'If you're traveling across the state between the Fourth of July and Labor Day, you will definitely need to plan for additional travel time across the Vantage Bridge.'
The best idea is to avoid the area.
'If you're farther to the north, go up toward the North Cascades and go around that way,' Derrey said. 'If you're closer to the Yakima area, loop back down to Moxie or through the Tri-Cities, and scoop back up. There are a lot of ways to avoid significant backups, just getting across that pinch point, across the Vantage bridge, depending on where you need to go.'
One place you shouldn't go is the Old Vantage Highway. Your GPS will want to send you that way. That highway is tiny. It's a windy, two-lane road with no lighting. It's an elk migration path that also attracts a variety of other animals. And during the biggest backups last year, it did not move for the final two miles as you tried to merge back onto the freeway.
I tried it at about 6:45 a.m. one morning, and it was fine. Try it at 11 a.m., and you're asking for trouble.
Be sure to check the Gorge concert schedule before you head across the bridge. Concert weekends during similar closures last year were brutal.
And we have three more years of this.

I Found the Comfiest Airplane Outfits at Amazon This Weekend—Styles Start at $31

A comfy airplane outfit is nonnegotiable when I travel, especially when it comes to long-haul flights. But as a fashion writer, I always make sure I feel as stylish as I am comfortable. Amazon has recently become my go-to for travel-ready outfits that are on trend, cozy, and stretchy enough to move around in. Whether it's a two-piece set or even a maxi dress, Amazon is stocked with affordable options that I can't help but add to my cart. I've rounded up the nine best comfy airplane outfits on Amazon that are cozy enough to sleep in while staying on trend during a flight. Whether you're fitting in one more trip before the summer ends or gearing up for fall travel, these comfy outfits work for every situation, and options start at $31. This two-piece knit travel set proves that comfort and style can coexist. Plus, the coffee brown shade is perfect for any fall travel you might have coming up. The set includes a cuffed short-sleeve top and wide-leg matching bottoms for a casual yet stylish look. It's also travel-approved, with one shopper noting the set was 'comfortable [during] an 8-hour plane ride.' Effortlessly cool is the best way to describe this two-piece travel outfit. The chic apricot set features a sleeveless top and coordinating wide-leg track pants. In fact, it's so stylish that you could easily wear this set from the airport to dinner. One reviewer wrote that after wearing it comfortably during a full day of air travel, 'I wore it out to a casual dinner after my flight' instead of changing into another outfit. Shoppers describe this set as 'great for travel' and 'comfortable enough to sleep in.' What more could you ask for in a travel outfit? The cozy two-piece 'fit comes in a soft (and stylish) ribbed material, so don't be surprised if you turn a few heads in the airport. Plus, the quarter-zip sweatshirt features a convenient kangaroo-style pocket, and the jogger-style pants have an adjustable drawstring for an adjustable fit. Never underestimate the power of a good basic set. The T-shirt and joggers are made of lightweight fabric, which one reviewer said is 'perfect for traveling.' If classic black isn't your style, not to worry. The set comes in 40 color options, so you have plenty of hues to choose from. When it comes to comfy outfits, this knit set is clearly a shopper-favorite. This two-piece includes a ribbed knit cropped top and tapered knit pants. The ultrachic khaki shade looks fit for a first-class lounge, but the soft material gives it a luxuriously cozy feeling. Get ready to curl up mid-flight in this comfy two-piece lounge set. Between the quarter-zip sweatshirt and the high-waisted, wide-leg pants, this option guarantees comfort. Pair it with white sneakers for a sporty look, and your airplane outfit is ready for takeoff. Most sets on Amazon come with two pieces, so this three-piece lounge set is an instant attention-getter. The set includes a long-sleeve, lightweight cardigan, a tank top with cinched side detailing, and a pair of high-waisted lounge pants. Whether you wear it altogether or mix and match, each piece makes for a comfortable travel experience. For a more elevated take on a comfy airplane outfit, consider this trendy two-piece set. The short-sleeve, button-down top and flowy, wide-leg pants can easily be dressed up or down, so you can wear them to travel one day and to sightsee the next. Plus, the airy, breathable material is ideal if you run warm on flights. An easy-to-wear dress is another great airplane outfit option. This maxi dress is breathable and lightweight, and it will make you feel a bit more dressed up on the plane. Pair it with slip-on sneakers to breeze through TSA, and remember to have a cardigan or sweater on hand in case you get chilly during flights. Love a great deal? Malin Åkerman and Her Husband, Jack Donnelly, Knew Each Other 4 Years Before Dating

THE RUNDOWN Jack Donnelly is a British actor and writer who is well known for his role in BBC's Atlantis as well as co-starring in several projects with his wife, Malin Åkerman. He and Åkerman met through her sister's boyfriend and married in Tulum in 2018. Offscreen, the couple lives in Los Angeles with Åkerman's son, Sebastian. In The Hunting Wives, Malin Åkerman leads an elite inner circle, but in real life, she's been building a quieter love story with her husband, Jack Donnelly. The actress, who stars as Margo Banks in the new series, has been married to the British actor and writer since December 2018. From starring in films together to supporting each other's creative work, the couple has built a life together in Los Angeles with Åkerman's son, Sebastian. Here, everything to know about Donnelly and his relationship with Åkerman. He and Åkerman met through her sister. Åkerman first met Donnelly through one of her sister's boyfriends. '[Donnelly] is actually my youngest sister's boyfriend's friend from drama school in England,' Åkerman revealed during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2o18. 'I had known him for the past four years but didn't see all of a sudden he came back from England like a year-and-a-half ago, and I went, 'Wow, have you always been this cute?'' They tied the knot in a beach wedding in Tulum. Donnelly's 2017 proposal to Åkerman was thoughtful and personal. 'Jack came to the door with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and proceeded to take me out for dinner at my favorite spot in Brooklyn,' Åkerman told Vogue in 2018. 'We sat in the garden and closed the place down. When we got home, he called me to our room, where he got down on one knee and asked the big question with a beautifully designed ring.' They married on Dec. 1, 2018, at the Papaya Playa Project in Tulum, Mexico. 'It was all about being adhering to somebody else's standard of what a wedding should be,' Åkerman told Brides. 'We wanted the wedding to feel real to us. It gave us a lot of freedom.' They've worked together. Donnelly and Åkerman have collaborated on multiple projects, including Friendsgiving, A Week in Paradise, and Slayers. In Friendsgiving, they starred as a couple and filmed a sex scene together. 'Any chance I get to have him do a scene like that, who better than to do it with than your husband?' Åkerman said during an appearance on The Talk in 2020. 'It's a really, kind of, intimate, crazy scene and thank God we know each other well enough instead of just meeting somebody on the first day and [doing] this crazy S&M scene. It was lovely to have him there.' Donnelly said that filming with Åkerman in Slayers, a vampire horror-comedy, was one of his favorite professional experiences. 'Malin and I are married, so any opportunity we get to work together, we always love it because it means we can keep the family together and travel together,' he told Bleeding Cool in 2022. He starred in BBC's Atlantis and played a vampire target in Slayers. Donnelly is well known for playing the lead in the BBC fantasy series Atlantis, and has appeared in United We Fall, Slayers, and the short comedy series The Players. In Slayers, Donnelly embraced a genre he hadn't tackled before. 'This is one of the only projects where I've not taken my top off at any point,' he joked to Bleeding Cool. 'This is the first time I've done an American accent on camera,' he added. 'I had such a good time doing it. Working with these guys and Asher, I would go back to this team and do more horror. Neither Malin nor I were huge horror fans in the past, but after doing this and exploring it, it was more like, 'There's stuff here that we'd like to get into again.'' He's also a writer and director. In addition to acting, Donnelly writes and directs. He directed and starred in the short series The Players in 2023. He's a stepfather to Åkerman's son. Donnelly has a close relationship with Åkerman's son, Sebastian, from her previous marriage to musician Roberto Zincone. 'He was brilliant with my son, and that was it, and my heart melted,' Åkerman said on Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2018. When she told Sebastian about the engagement, she recalled, 'He jumped up on the couch and went, 'Yay, we're getting married!'' When Donnelly proposed in October 2017, Åkerman posted an Instagram, writing, 'This sweet and loving man has stepped into our lives and stole both our hearts! I think we're gonna keep him around for a while. ;)' Åkerman also told Us Weekly in 2018 that Donnelly and Sebastian were 'inseparable,' adding, 'It makes my heart warm. I'm very glad to be bringing Jack into our lives for good.' He helped Åkerman become more vulnerable. Åkerman credits Donnelly with helping her grow in their relationship. 'He's a master at [communication]. He's taught me a lot,' she told People in 2023. 'He's allowed me to be vulnerable and lean into him a bit, and it's been beautiful to be able to communicate with someone who's your partner.' The couple also prioritizes intentional time together. 'I love date nights. We both live for them,' she said. 'Sometimes, when we know we're not going to be able to do a date night one week, then we go out for breakfast together.' He isn't on social media, but Åkerman shares their life online. Donnelly does not have any social media accounts. 'I'm not really on social media with Twitter, Instagram, or anything,' he told Bleeding Cool in 2022. Åkerman often posts glimpses into their relationship instead, including a heartfelt post for their six-year wedding anniversary in December 2024: '6 years ago today…and still loving you more than ever ❤️ even if we both forgot that it was our anniversary. 😳 😂 ' She's also celebrated his birthday publicly. In October 2024, she wrote, 'It's his birthday!! #jackdonnelly I couldn't have asked for a better partner ❤️ you make me laugh like no one else! You are a shining bright light and I absolutely adore you for everything that you are.I cannot believe you're still in your 30's 👀!!! #happybirthday my love.' It's beach time, amusement park time for one Nevada football team after win

High school football began on Friday night in California, and no one was having more fun than the tourists/players from Sparks, Nev., the Spanish Springs High Cougars. They flew in Friday morning on Southwest Airlines, with plans to visit the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday and Six Flags Magic Mountain on Sunday. First up was a game against Simi Valley, and it went better than expected. Brady Hummel, a senior receiver and the son of coach Robert Hummel, caught 14 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-21 victory. There were 11 turnovers, with Simi Valley losing four fumbles and getting intercepted twice. Hummel was so wide open on one touchdown because of a Simi Valley secondary communication error that he could have been counting one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi and still would have been wide open. Quarterback Tyson McNeil passed for 211 yards. From the opening kickoff, when Jackson Sundeen returned it for a 96-yard touchdown, the Pioneers were trying to come from behind. The two teams combined for seven turnovers in the first half. Spanish Springs held a 20-14 halftime lead. Micah Hannah and James Scida each had interceptions for Simi Valley. The Pioneers lost three fumbles. Quarterback Connor Petrov had touchdown passes of 29 yards on fourth down to Quentin McGahan and 50 yards to Cole Alejo. In the second half, Petrov was intercepted twice and also lost a fumble that turned into a touchdown. Simi Valley was 12-2 last season and defeated the Cougars in Nevada, but two new quarterbacks and a rebuilt offensive line has the Pioneers working to improve. "We'll bounce back," Hannah said. As for playing against Hummel, Hannah gave up a touchdown against him, but also picked off one of his passes. "He's smooth," Hannah said. Los Alamitos came away with a 20-12 win over Inglewood. A two-yard touchdown run Lenny Ibarra put Los Alamitos ahead for good. Los Alamitos is headed to Hawaii next week. In Henderson, Nev., Long Beach Millikan defeated Foothill 27-14. Tight end/defensive end Jude Nelson had two sacks and made nine catches. Quarterback Ashton Pannell threw two touchdown passes. Sign up for the L.A.
