41 unlicensed ‘KLCC photographers' fined by DBKL

(Facebook pics) PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued fines to 41 unlicensed street photographers operating in the KLCC area as part of an enforcement operation over the weekend. The operation, codenamed 'Op Lens', was carried out with support from the police, immigration, national registration department, and federal territories department, targeting unlicensed individuals offering paid photography services in public spaces. DBKL said public spaces were shared property and must be used ethically, in an orderly manner, and in compliance with regulations. 'Unauthorised photography services are not only illegal but also pose safety risks to visitors,' it said in a Facebook post. 'Some of these activities take place on roads or pedestrian walkways, endangering both photographers and clients, and disrupting public movement.' DBKL also warned that repeat offenders risked having their equipment confiscated. It said enforcement would continue to ensure that public areas remain orderly and safe. The crackdown follows mounting complaints on social media from visitors who said they were misled or harassed by self-styled 'photographers' offering low-cost services that escalated into disputes. Melaka lecturer pleads not guilty to amphetamine, syabu consumption
MELAKA: A public university lecturer in Melaka pleaded not guilty at the Ayer Keroh magistrate's court today to a charge of consuming amphetamine and syabu last month. Mohd Shahrizan Othman, 44, entered the plea after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman. According to the charge, he was found to have self-administered amphetamine and methamphetamine, listed in Part III of the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division Office of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters. The offence was committed on June 19, at 5.20pm. He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the DDA 1952, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both, along with a supervision order of between two and three years under Section 38B of the same act. Deputy public prosecutor Syaza Nur Sharif prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek. During the appeal, the lawyer said the accused was a lecturer with an income of about RM7,000 and was currently suspended due to the court case. The court granted bail at RM2,000 and set Sept 29 for mention, pending a pathology report.

DBKL tows 17 motorbikes, two cars for obstructing public walkways
KUALA LUMPUR: City hall towed 17 motorcycles and two cars during a traffic enforcement operation around NU Sentral and Jalan Tun Sambanthan following public complaints about vehicles obstructing pedestrian paths. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the special operation targeted motorcycles parked on walkways, Persons With Disabilities (PWD) access routes and restricted areas. The towed vehicles were taken to DBKL's impound depot in Jalan Pahang for further action. A total of 83 traffic compound notices were also issued for various offences. DBKL reminded road users, especially motorcyclists, to obey traffic signs and regulations and not to block public walkways to ensure safety and smooth movement in the city.
