Iyer in Arabia OTT Release Date: When and where to watch Mukesh and Urvasi's Malayalam comedy film online

Time of India11-05-2025

Iyer in Arabia OTT Release Date: Back in 2024, Mukesh and Urvasi starred together in a Malayalam comedy, which has finally found a digital home after a long time. Directed by M. A. Nishad, the film was produced by Vignesh Vijayakumar under Wealth I Productions. As per OTTPlay, you can watch Iyer in Arabia on Sun NXT starting May 16, 2025.
Iyer in Arabia's plot overview
Iyer in Arabia follows the story of Srinivasa Iyer (Mukesh), his son Rahul (Dhyan), and his wife Jhancy Rani (Urvashi). Srinivasa Iyer is a conservative and possessive father, while Jhancy, a school teacher and popular YouTuber, brings a more modern perspective to the family. Rahul aspires to move to Dubai to build a career as an architect, but his father's rigid beliefs and cultural reservations become a major obstacle.
The film subtly portrays Srinivasa as a supporter of right-wing ideology. At its core, Iyer in Arabia is a satirical take on generational and ideological conflict, focusing on a father-son relationship strained by rigid beliefs and the desire for personal freedom.
Iyer in Arabia's cast and crew
Other than Mukesh and Urvashi, Iyer in Arabia also stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Durga Krishna, Dayana Hameed, Biju Sopanam, Jaffar Idukki, Sudheer Karamana, Sunil Sukhada, Alencier Ley Lopez, Maniyanpilla Raju, Uma Nair, Divya M. Nair, Sinoje Siddique, Kailash and Jayakumar Parameswaran Pillai among others. This Anand Madhusoodanan musical is edited by Johnkutty.
Iyer in Arabia's review
The Lensmen review of the film read, 'Iyer in Arabia felt more like a wasted opportunity to make a solid satire. If you are a politically aware person, some of the key characters in this movie will be extremely relatable to you. But rather than developing an engaging film with those relatable characters, MA Nishad decided to hastily assemble a comedy film that might feel passable as 30-second reels, but not as a two-hour and twenty-minute long feature film.'

Dominic Arun on helming a female superhero film: Not a deliberate attempt to break the mould

While Malayalam cinema has seen a superhero film with Minnal Murali, director Dominic Arun 's Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, featuring Kalyani Priyadarshan , will mark the industry's first female superhero. However, the director says, 'It's not a deliberate attempt to break the mould. We started discussing this idea back in 2020. The story and the main characters developed organically. We are lucky to have built a talented team to bring this story to life." Premalu actor Naslen will be playing the male lead in this project, which has actress Santhy Balachandran as the additional screenwriter. She shares, "Dominic and I have had a longstanding association since Tharangam (2017), and working with him has always been a very collaborative experience. Lokah is his baby. We have different skill sets and points of view, and although we strongly disagree with each other at times, this difference is our strength as writing partners," While Kerala State Award Winner Melwy J, who has worked on Bramayugam and Minnal Murali, is handling the costume design for the film, the duo reveal that they have also collaborated with Archana Akhil Rao of Kalki 2898 Ad and Lucky Baskhar fame to create looks for certain sequences in the film, "including Kalyani's outfit in the first-look poster'. Santhy believes that Malayalam is the most creatively fertile industry in India at this point in time. "Our audience is quick to both appreciate and criticise, so we cannot take them for granted. Of course, we have to work within the financial constraints unique to a small state, but I believe that too contributes to our unique choices in storytelling," she says.
