RB Leipzig interested in bringing back Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku

Yahoo31-07-2025
Christopher Nkunku (27) looks highly likely to leave Chelsea this summer. The Frenchman struggled for gametime under Enzo Maresca last season, despite featuring prominently in the club's run to the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy.
Despite forming part of Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup squad earlier this summer, it is not thought that the former RB Leipzig man has a future at Stamford Bridge. Nkunku has been linked with Premier League sides, namely Arsenal and Manchester United, however, a return to Germany, and his former club, RB Leipzig, cannot be ruled out, understands.
Chelsea in Xavi Simons talks
Chelsea and RB Leipzig are currently in talks over a deal for Netherlands international Xavi Simons. Sports Zone understands that there also talks about Nkunku. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is not completely shut off to a move to his former club, however, for now, he is prioritising other destinations.

Liverpool's Slot hints at fresh Isak bid despite 'attacking power'

Liverpool manager Arne Slot refused to rule out an improved bid for Newcastle's Alexander Isak as the Premier League champions consider adding to their formidable firepower, with Darwin Nunez set to leave for Saudi Arabia. After a quiet first year in the transfer market under Slot the Reds have spent almost £300 million ($402 million) on forwards Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike as well as full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. Nunez is one of a number of significant exits that will help recoup much of that outlay as the Uruguayan closes in on a £46 million move to Al Hilal. Liverpool reportedly had a £110 million bid for Isak turned down by Newcastle, who are seeking a British transfer record fee. The Swedish striker has not been part of the Magpies' pre-season preparations and has been told to train on his own by Newcastle. "You never talk about players that are not yours," Slot said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley, the traditional curtain-raiser for the season. "I think we have a lot of attacking power in our team. When I think about Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, Mo Salah, Jeremie Frimpong, who can play as a right-winger, Florian Wirtz, who can play as a left-winger, -- I already feel I have a lot of attacking options in my current squad. "But, as always as a club, we are always looking at the chances in the market." Liverpool celebrated a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title but were devastated last month by the death of forward Diogo Jota. The Portuguese international was killed in a car accident alongside his brother in northern Spain as he began to make his way back to England for pre-season. A series of tributes have been paid to Jota at every Liverpool game since and will continue throughout the season. A "Forever 20" emblem, referencing Jota's now-retired shirt number, will be printed on Liverpool's shirts this season, while a permanent memorial will be installed at Anfield. "First of all, tragedy impacted us but it impacted far more his wife, children and parents," said Slot. "But it impacted us as well, definitely. The tributes that have been done since were all very emotional and impressive, every time we were somewhere. "It started off in Preston and in Asia as well. It's been emotional, but impressive as well." kca/jw/ea

Monaco keeping tabs on Liverpool attacking midfielder Ben Doak

AS Monaco are keeping a close watch on a promising Liverpool FC youngster as we inch closer to the start of the new campaign, according to a report from . Ben Doak (19) spent last season in the Championship on loan at Middlesbrough, scoring three goals, while being named the Young Player of the Month last November with five assists. The Celtic academy product moved to Liverpool in March 2022 but has only made three appearances for them in the Premier League. He's attracted plenty of interest from other clubs with Monaco, West Ham United, Leeds United and Italian side Bologna among them. Doak's contract with the Reds expires in June 2026. This interest from Les Monégasques comes following the news that one of their young attacking midfielders may be on his way out. Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly looking to finalise a deal for Maghnes Akliouche (23) for around €50m. At 19, Doak has collected six senior caps for the Scottish national team and was on the provisional squad for Euro 2024, but was forced to withdraw because of an injury. He made his international debut for the Scots last September, coming on as a substitute in their 3-2 defeat against Poland. Monaco begin their Ligue 1 campaign on Saturday, August 16, when they welcome Le Havre AC to the Stade Louis II. The summer transfer window officially closes on September 1. GFFN | Joel Lefevre

🚨 BREAKING: Aston Villa confirm arrival of Ligue 1 attacker

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Evann Guessand from Nice for a reported fee of €30m (£26.3m), with an additional €5m in add-ons. The Ivory Coast international has joined the Premier League outfit on a five-year contract. Guessand drew plenty of transfer interest this summer, with Crystal Palace also previously monitoring the striker's situation, before he joined the Villans. The 24-year-old impressed for Nice in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 12 goals and making nine assists in 33 appearances, and will likely provide competition for Villa striker Ollie Watkins. 📸 VALERY HACHE - AFP or licensors
