Jedd Fisch has high hopes for Washington's future
Jedd Fisch used his first season as the Washington Huskies' head coach to build a solid foundation around the player he's repeatedly called the future face of the program, quarterback Demond Williams Jr.
The freshman started the last two games of the season and dazzled in Washington's 35-34 loss to Louisville in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl with 374 yards and 4 touchdowns through the air, with an additional 48 yards and a score on the ground, which proved that the Huskies have a strong building block at the game's most important position.
In an interview with KOMO News' Niko Tamurian, Fisch had a lot to say about the core he expects to lead the way for his team in 2025.
'I felt great about the fact that in Demond's second start ever, he had 5 touchdowns, four in the air and one on the ground,' he said of the Sun Bowl. 'Jonah Coleman, Adam Mohammed, and Jordan Washington all playing and coming back next year. Denzel Boston not being able to play the fourth quarter of the game, but the amount of production we've gotten from Denzel, having him as a key part for next year.'
'Decker DeGraaf continues to make plays, we have Quentin Moore coming back, and [USC transfer] Kade Eldridge coming in. You start looking at the offensive line, Maximus McCree [played his first game in almost two months], and all the youth out there, Landen Hatchett played his first game at center.'
Washington has also made an effort to improve in the trenches through the transfer portal, bringing in two experienced transfers, Kansas State tackle Carver Willis, and Hatchett's older brother Geirean, who returned after a year at Oklahoma.
Fisch also has some high hopes for his defense under new coordinator Ryan Walters.
'What we plan on getting done with [Isaiah] Ward, [Zach] Durfee, and [Russell] Davis, then bringing in guys with [Ephesians] Prysock and Tacario Davis on the perimeter, Makell [Esteen] coming back and Vince Holmes, I just feel like we have a really, really good team right now that wants to be good, we've added a lot of parts, we've added a lot of people. We also have a ton of freshmen and we're excited, we've got a 20-game win streak [at home], we've got to continue to sell out, and then we've got to go on the road and start getting some wins.'

Marshon Lattimore wants to prove himself to Commanders

I was just trying to battle through that, but now, since I got a full offseason, I feel explosive.' Getting the Lattimore of old in the secondary this season would be a case of better late than never for the Commanders and it would make them a tougher team to throw against this time around.

SEATTLE (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Erica Wheeler added 20 points and six assists and the Seattle Storm ended Minnesota's season-opening winning streak at nine, beating the Lynx 94-84 on Wednesday night. After Minnesota had a basket taken away following an official review for a shot-clock violation, Skylar Diggins made a 3-pointer to give Seattle (6-4) an 83-79 lead. Diggins also found Ezi Magbegor under the basket for a six-point advantage.
