Kharge blames ‘vote theft' for his 2019 LS poll defeat
All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday alleged that his defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Kalaburagi constituency was the result of 'electoral fraud'. Stating that he has never faced defeat in his long political career, except in 2019, Mr. Kharge claimed he was a victim of election rigging. Addressing the 'Vote Adhikar Rally' here, Mr. Kharge said, 'In my long political career, I lost for the first time in 2019 Lok Sabha polls due to election fraud.' 'The BJP engaged in 'bogus voting', securing up to 20,000 votes in each of the five Assembly segments under the Kalaburagi Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 Parliamentary election,' he alleged. 'In the last 11 years, we have seen every institution crumbling under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), CBI and Income Tax, Judiciary, media and even constitutional office holders have been taken over by the BJP-RSS. The ED and CBI are used to harass and intimidate people. Senior leaders of the Congress, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, are being targeted. Even our Chief Minister was not spared,' he said. Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief D.K. Shivakumar extended full support to Mr. Rahul Gandhi in his fight to protect the Constitution and voters' rights. 'This is a historic fight. Rahul Gandhi has sent a strong message about protecting the Constitution and voters' rights. Karnataka is writing the foreword for the election fraud expose in the country. Mr. Rahul Gandhi, during a recent event on the Constitution, had called for setting up legal banks in every booth to protect voters' rights. We are committed to do that,' he said. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately step down from his post. 'He has no moral right to continue in his post. Mr. Rahul Gandhi's 'vote fraud' expose has shown that he has stolen seats to remain in power,' Mr Siddaramaiah said.

Telangana mulls dedicated green energy equipment manufacturing zones
Telangana government is setting up dedicated Green Energy Equipment Zones and inviting global majors such as Toshiba to invest in such facilities on sectors like batteries, power components and smart grids, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Friday. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating a ₹65 crore CRGO Core Processing Centre and a ₹105 crore Surge Arrester Line at the Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) (TTDI) facility in Rudraram, near Hyderabad. He also laid the foundation for a ₹177 crore expansion of TTDI's power transformers manufacturing line, Mr. Sridhar Babu's office said, sharing breakup of the ₹347 crore investment by the company on the projects. Citing the Economic Survey (2024–25) estimates that India's domestic electricity demand will double by 2040, the Minister said, 'We are proactively working to attract new industries to meet this demand. The State government has also introduced the Clean and Green Energy Policy – 2025. 'So far, we have attracted investments worth ₹29,000 crore in the clean energy sector. Special plans are being formulated and implemented to scale up new renewable energy capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030,' he said Toshiba and the Telangana government are also launching a research and development hub for smart energy solutions. There are immense opportunities in Telangana for investments in clean tech, semi-conductors, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, he said, urging Japanese firms to invest in the State. Separately, the company said the new manufacturing lines are part of the ₹562 crore (Japanese Yen 10 billion) investment commitment TTDI made and signed an MoU with the State government during Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's visit to Japan earlier this year. The proposed investment is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs over the three years from FY 2024, further contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. The strategic initiative reinforces Toshiba's long-term commitment to establish India as its manufacturing base and export hub for transmission and distribution (T&D) business, it said. The CRGO Core Processing Centre has a capacity to process 12,000 tonnes of Cold Rolled Grain-Oriented steel annually, while the Surge Arrester Production Line is designed to manufacture 80,000 units per year. The EHV Power Transformer expansion project will increase TTDI's overall power transformer production capacity from 30,000 MVA per annum to 42,000 MVA per annum. These additions will enhance TTDI's domestic and global supply capabilities to support growing demand in India and international markets. 'Our planned investment will bolster Toshiba's manufacturing footprint in India and contribute to local employment and skills development. We are poised to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market...' TTDI CMD Hiroshi Furuta said. Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkat Swamy and others participated in the programme.

Over 2 lakh Indians renounced Indian citizenship in 2024: Govt tells Lok Sabha
More than two lakh Indians renounced their citizenship in 2024, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Friday. Opposition MPs create ruckus in Lok Sabha during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, in New Delhi on Friday. (Sansad Tv) Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said this in a written response to queries on the number of individuals who have renounced their Indian citizenship and taken citizenship of other countries during the last five years. The minister was replying to queries by Congress MP K C Venugopal. "As per the information available with the Ministry, the number of Indians who gave up their Indian citizenship was 85,256 in 2020, 1,63,370 in 2021, 2,25,620 in 2022, 2,16,219 in 2023 and 2,06,378 in 2024, Singh said. The reasons for renouncing Indian citizenship or taking foreign citizenship are personal and known only to the individual, the government said. "The government recognises the potential of the global workplace in an era of the knowledge economy. It has also brought about a transformational change in its engagement with the Indian diaspora," the MoS said. A successful, prosperous and influential diaspora is an asset for India, which stands to gain a lot from tapping their networks and productive utilisation of the soft power that comes from having such a flourishing diaspora, he said. The government's efforts are also aimed at harnessing the diaspora's potential to its fullest including through sharing of knowledge and expertise, he said. In response to another query, the government shared that according to available inputs, the population of overseas Indians is 3,43,56,193, out of which 1,71,81,071 are Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and 1,71,75,122 are Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
