4 foreigners arrested after video exposes drug activity in Cairo streets
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior on Saturday revealed details about a viral video showing four foreign nationals allegedly trafficking drugs in Cairo Governorate.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated: 'Clarifying the circumstances of a video circulated on social media, which depicted individuals (holding the nationality of a certain country) engaging in drug trafficking within the jurisdiction of Nasr City Third Police Department in Cairo.'
The Ministry added: 'Upon investigation, the perpetrators (four individuals holding the nationality of a certain country, residing within the department's jurisdiction) were identified and apprehended. They were found in possession of a quantity of Ice (methamphetamine) and a sum of money. When confronted, they confessed to possessing the narcotics with the intent to traffic them. Legal measures have been taken.'
The Ministry also reposted the video clip along with a photo of the individuals after their arrest, attaching them to its post on the X platform.

Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police. H.E. Safia Al Safi emphasised that the UAE has made significant strides in developing advanced strategies, policies, and legislation to combat money laundering and terrorism financing in line with the highest international standards. This has further reinforced the national economy's position as a competitive trade and business hub committed to the highest standards of integrity and transparency. H.E. noted that the partnership with Dubai Police aligns with the Ministry's vision to enhance collaboration with federal and local entities, thereby strengthening the national framework and developing mechanisms to combat financial crimes and enhance regulatory infrastructure in accordance with relevant international standards. This includes the exchange of data related to money laundering and terrorism financing crimes, aligning with the Ministry's role in supervising Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs) and identifying the real beneficial owners of legal entities. Under the scope of the MoU, both parties will collaborate on developing integrated mechanisms and programs to elevate risk response efficiency related to suspicious financial activities within the DNFBP sector, which include real estate agents and brokers, traders of precious metals and stones, auditors, and company service providers. This will be realised through the exchange of data on suspicious transactions and activities and the activation of secure and effective institutional communication channels to ensure the swift exchange of confidential data in line with the approved legal and regulatory frameworks. These efforts support their awareness endeavours to prevent and deter violators, in line with the applicable legislations and regulations in the UAE. The MoU also outlines the implementation of joint training programs and specialised workshops aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of both parties' staff and the development of periodic analytical reports to support decision-making, ensuring the comprehensive application of administrative and regulatory procedures. Egypt continues inspection tours of sacrificial animal markets during Eid Al-Adha

In a statement, the Ministry said that the inspections aim to verify the health of animals being sold for sacrifice and to educate citizens on selecting appropriate livestock. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, has been personally monitoring the activities of the committees, which are operated by the Ministry's Animal and Poultry Wealth Development Sector in coordination with the General Authority for Veterinary Services. Minister Farouk stressed the importance of continuous oversight of all animal markets and stalls to guarantee the safety and well-being of sacrificial animals throughout the holiday. He also emphasized the availability of technical guidance to help citizens make informed choices when purchasing animals for sacrifice. The Minister further highlighted the need to reduce random slaughtering in public streets, both to preserve environmental cleanliness and to ensure the safety and quality of the meat. He urged citizens to utilize the nearest government-operated slaughterhouses, which are offering free slaughter services throughout the Eid holiday. These facilities also conduct veterinary checks and visual inspections of livestock before slaughter. On the first day of Eid Al-Adha, a time when hundreds of thousands of Egyptians perform the ritual slaughter of livestock, Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber issued a warning against slaughtering animals in public streets and leaving behind waste. He confirmed that environmental violation reports would be filed against offenders, with fines reaching up to EGP 10,000 (approximately USD 202) for those who leave animal waste or blood in public areas. The Governor also announced that all government slaughterhouses in Cairo will remain open around the clock during the holiday to accommodate citizens' sacrificial animals free of charge.
