Man out of jail kills boy, 10, after failed sexual assault bid; held after encounter

Agra: A 30-year-old man, released from jail 13 days ago after serving a five-year term in a narcotics case, was arrested again on Tuesday following a brief encounter with police for allegedly killing a 10-year-old boy, a rag picker, after a failed attempt to sexually assault him, police said. Officers said Deepak Yadav lured the child to an under-construction building on the night of July 10. SHO Anjeesh Kumar Singh said, "The boy raised an alarm when Yadav tried to assault him, prompting the man to strangle him with his shirt and flee. The child's body, found the next morning without clothes, had a shirt wrapped around the neck, indicating strangulation." An FIR was registered at Tundla thana under BNS section 103 (1) (murder). A separate case was filed under BNS section 109 (attempt to murder) and the Arms Act after the accused fired on the police team during the encounter. Firozabad (city) SP Ravi Shankar Prasad said a country-made pistol, two used cartridges and three live cartridges were recovered from the accused. Following the murder, police scanned footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras. Yadav was identified and a reward of Rs 25,000 was announced for information leading to his arrest. A tip-off on Tuesday led police to set up a checkpoint on the outskirts of Agra. Yadav was spotted and signalled to stop. When he tried to flee, police surrounded him. He opened fire, and in retaliatory action, was shot in both legs. He was taken to the district hospital.

Gun under greens: Police seize illegal arms from shop disguised as ‘Sabji Waale' in Purnia

Patna: In a bizarre turn of events, a vegetable shop in Purnia district was found to be a front for a sophisticated arms smuggling racket. Acting on a tip-off, the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and the district police carried out a joint raid on Monday, uncovering a large cache of illegal weapons and live cartridges from a shop named 'Sabji Waale' — a seemingly ordinary vegetable vendor. The operation led to the arrest of an alleged arms smuggler, Kunal Kumar Singh, a resident of Purnia College Road under Haat police station area. From his shop, the police recovered the breech block (rotating bolt) of an AK-47 rifle, a German-made Beretta pistol, and 440 rounds of live cartridges. According to officials, Kunal had a criminal history involving multiple arms smuggling charges and had previously served four jail terms under the Arms Act. Notably, he was released just two months ago from Beur central jail in Patna. Police records show that at least five cases are registered against him across Patna, Munger, and Purnia. Purnia SP, Sweety Sehrawat, said police received an input that Kunal, already wanted in multiple cases, was continuing his illegal trade by concealing it behind a vegetable shop front. "On the basis of the intelligence, a special raiding team led by Sadar SDPO-I, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, was formed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The shop was surrounded and searched. As soon as the shutter was lifted, the arms cache came to light," the SP said. During interrogation, Kunal reportedly confessed that he, along with his partner Amit Kumar alias Roshan, had been operating the illegal arms business by disguising it as a vegetable trade. He admitted to procuring weapons and ammunition from outside the state and selling them through the shop. Police have launched a drive to nab other members of the network.

The Maharashtra government has announced that it will investigate the 'motives' of the non-profit organisation Praja Foundation, after it released a report in May highlighting the poor conditions of public and community toilets in Mumbai. Shiv Sena MLA and Maharashtra Cabinet minister Uday Samant has claimed that the report was 'not accurate'. In its report, the NGO had said that there is only one public toilet seat for every 752 men and 1,820 women in the city. This is much below the guidelines under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which recommends at least one public toilet seat for every 100 to 400 men and 100 to 200 women. The non-profit also highlighted that there is only one community toilet seat for every 86 men and 81 women. A community toilet is a shared facility meant for a defined group of residents or an entire settlement. The Swachh Bharat Mission norms prescribe one community toilet for 35 men and 25 women, respectively.
