KUCHING (Aug 16): Bau police impounded eight motorcycles and issued 49 summonses to motorcyclists for various traffic offences during an operation last night.
Bau district police chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the operation, held from 6pm to midnight, covered several locations including Jalan Bau-Batu Kawa and the Bau Bazaar area.
'The operation involved eight traffic personnel, including two officers and six constables. A total of 58 motorcycles and 65 individuals were inspected,' he told the media today.
The eight motorcycles were impounded due to having been heavily modified, which is an offence as stipulated under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Of the summonses issued, 16 were for illegal modifications and eight for not having rearview mirrors.
Other offences included not having a licence plate (six), not wearing a helmet (six), riding without a licence (five), not displaying a P-plate (three), expired road tax (three), and riding against traffic flow (two).
Daram reminded road users, particularly motorcyclists, to follow traffic rules and stay vigilant. He also urged parents to monitor their children and prevent them from engaging in illegal racing.
'The Bau district police will continue to act against traffic violations, and we encourage the public to provide information on illegal racing activities by calling 082-763311,' he said. Bau impounded motorcyclists traffic offences
