Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the case so far, said officials, adding that the group targeted young individuals, especially girls, using online games
The religious conversion racket under investigation in Agra involved coordination with handlers based in Pakistan and used online platforms and gaming apps to influence youth, police said on Saturday.
Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the case so far, said officials, adding that the group targeted young individuals, especially girls, using online games like Ludo as initial contact points.
According to Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the suspects allegedly introduced Islamic teachings and created doubts about Hinduism through sustained communication.
The case came to light after two sisters, aged 33 and 18, were reported missing from Agra. One of them had posted a photo on social media holding an AK-47.
This led to the arrest of 10 people from six states, followed by four more as the investigation progressed.
Some of the girls were reportedly influenced by Kashmiri women who were part of the network and criticised Hinduism while promoting Islam, reported Hindustan Times.
'We have interrogated 14 arrested individuals and spoken to the rescued girls. It was found that they were in contact with people in Pakistan, who spoke to them about Islam, and with some girls in Kashmir who reportedly influenced them to adopt the religion," Agra police commissioner Deepak Kumar said.
Police have identified Abdul Rehman, a Delhi resident who converted to Islam in 1990, and Ayesha from Goa as key figures in the operation.
The network allegedly targeted girls from several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. The rescued individuals were reportedly added to WhatsApp groups where ideological indoctrination continued.
Commissioner Kumar said the operation involved individuals with knowledge of the dark web and encrypted messaging platforms like Signal, which were used to evade detection.
He named two Pakistan-based individuals, Tanveer Ahmed and Sahil Adeem, as playing a key role in the ideological campaign. The case remains under investigation, with further leads being pursued.

Who is Maulana Sajid Rashidi, slapped by SP workers over inappropriate remark on Dimple Yadav

As a video of Rashidi's comment began to circulate on social media, a case was registered against him at Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow, on a complaint by SP worker Pravesh Yadav. After the show aired, a group of Samajwadi Party workers slapped Maulana Rashidi at a TV set in Noida. UP police sources told ThePrint that SP workers who slapped Rashidi have been identified as Shyam Singh Bhati, national secretary of the SP Advocate Sabha; Mohit Nagar, district president of the SP student wing, Gautam Budhha Nagar; Prashant Bhati, state secretary of the party's student wing; and Kuldeep Bhati, an SP worker. Lucknow: Maulana Sajid Rashidi is no stranger to controversy. The Delhi-based president of the All India Imam Association has been in the news many times for making provocative statements, especially during TV debates. Now, Rashidi finds himself facing another political storm over an inappropriate comment he made about Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav, who is also the wife of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Speaking to ANI after the incident, Rashidi later defended his remarks. 'She (Dimple) didn't abide by Islamic beliefs while sitting in the mosque. Iqra Hasan's ears and nose are covered. On the other hand, there is Dimple Yadav … The question is, will Akhilesh Yadav file an FIR against the person who took this picture (of the mosque visit),' he said. 'I will also go to the police and submit the phone numbers from which I received threats. I will file a case against Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav because it is their workers who are sending threats,' he added. Reacting to the controversy, Dimple Yadav told reporters, 'It's good that an FIR was registered. It would have been better if they had protested when the incidents against women happened in Manipur. After Operation Sindoor, BJP leaders made indecent remarks against our armed forces officers. It would have been better if they had stood against it.' Following a police complaint by the TV news channel, a case has been registered at Noida's Sector 126 police station against Maulana Sajid Rashidi, Shyam Singh Bhati, Mohit Nagar and Kuldeep Bhati. Police are currently investigating the matter. At the time of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, he said he voted for the BJP to dispel fear among Muslims about supporting the party and to challenge the belief that Muslims don't support the BJP. BJP leader Amit Malviya even shared Rashidi's video online during the Delhi polls to claim that a large number of Muslims were supporting the BJP now. Rashidi later clarified that his real intention was to make the Muslim community politically independent. He also supported the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, calling it a revolutionary step to safeguard the rights of the Muslim community. He also accused those opposing the law of trying to provoke unrest and urged the government to check the properties of those opposing it. In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, he blamed Pakistan, saying its actions were tarnishing the image of Indian Muslims. He even said that, if necessary, he was ready to go to the border himself to teach Pakistan a lesson. In an interview with ANI in 2023, he made a controversial comment about 17th-century Maratha ruler Shivaji, downplaying his contributions. In 2023, he claimed that Mahmud of Ghazni was right to demolish the Somnath temple, alleging that 'wrong things' were happening there. He later apologised after a backlash and an FIR from the Somnath Trust. In 2024, he drew flak for comments made during a TV debate. Loni BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar filed a complaint against him, accusing him of hurting the sentiments of Hindus. Back in 2022, Rashidi supported threats issued against then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad. Bangladeshi model used fake Indian documents to purchase properties

Kolkata, Aug 1 (PTI) Bangladeshi model and actress Shanta Pal allegedly used fake Indian documents to jointly purchase properties in the southern part of the city along with her live-in partner, a police officer said on Friday. Pal was arrested earlier this week, with fake Indian documents like Aadhaar card, ration card. Police are verifying the details of the property transaction, the officer said. Initial probe revealed that Pal allegedly used fake documents and entered into a 'digital marriage" with the man, hailing from Andhra Pradesh. She arrived in Kolkata in 2023 from Barisal, Bangladesh, using her Bangladeshi passport. 'She brought along her friend and alleged partner, Ashraf, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, who works in the merchant navy. 'The duo rented an apartment in Park Street and later moved to Golf Green, where they began living together. Shanta reportedly kept Ashraf's passport in her possession. With the help of a local agent she allegedly forged multiple Indian identity documents, including ration card, Aadhaar card, voter ID, and PAN card," the officer said. She obtained a fake Aadhaar card, falsely claiming to be a resident of Gopalpur, Barshul in Burdwan, and later procured another under her Golf Green address. 'Using both her and Ashraf's documents, they allegedly purchased properties in Kolkata," police said. Further investigation revealed that Shanta had represented Bangladesh in the Indo-Bangla Beauty Pageant in 2016, and in 2019, she went on to become Miss Asia Global. 'Following her success in modelling, she began her acting career before eventually joining a Bangladeshi airline," he said. Police are cross-checking her professional background as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged identity fraud and property acquisition in India. In the last two years, Shanta acted in Tamil and Bengali films, and even signed an Odia film, the officer said.
