Online Ludo, Dark Web And Pakistan Link: Agra Conversion Racket Probe Reveals Shocking Details

Last Updated: Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the case so far, said officials, adding that the group targeted young individuals, especially girls, using online games The religious conversion racket under investigation in Agra involved coordination with handlers based in Pakistan and used online platforms and gaming apps to influence youth, police said on Saturday. Fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the case so far, said officials, adding that the group targeted young individuals, especially girls, using online games like Ludo as initial contact points. According to Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar, the suspects allegedly introduced Islamic teachings and created doubts about Hinduism through sustained communication. The case came to light after two sisters, aged 33 and 18, were reported missing from Agra. One of them had posted a photo on social media holding an AK-47. This led to the arrest of 10 people from six states, followed by four more as the investigation progressed. Some of the girls were reportedly influenced by Kashmiri women who were part of the network and criticised Hinduism while promoting Islam, reported Hindustan Times. 'We have interrogated 14 arrested individuals and spoken to the rescued girls. It was found that they were in contact with people in Pakistan, who spoke to them about Islam, and with some girls in Kashmir who reportedly influenced them to adopt the religion," Agra police commissioner Deepak Kumar said. Police have identified Abdul Rehman, a Delhi resident who converted to Islam in 1990, and Ayesha from Goa as key figures in the operation. The network allegedly targeted girls from several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana. The rescued individuals were reportedly added to WhatsApp groups where ideological indoctrination continued. Commissioner Kumar said the operation involved individuals with knowledge of the dark web and encrypted messaging platforms like Signal, which were used to evade detection. He named two Pakistan-based individuals, Tanveer Ahmed and Sahil Adeem, as playing a key role in the ideological campaign. The case remains under investigation, with further leads being pursued. view comments First Published: July 27, 2025, 08:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Agra Conversion Gang Has Pak Links, Used Online Games To Target People: Top Cop

New Delhi: Investigation into the alleged religious conversion racket, in which 14 people have been arrested so far, has revealed that the gang behind the efforts was linked to individuals in Pakistan, who helped influence young people to make them accept Islam, the Agra police commissioner has said. The racket was busted last week with the arrest of 10 people from six states following an investigation into two sisters, aged 33 and 18, going missing from Agra. On a social media platform, one of the women had also posted a picture of herself holding an AK-47 rifle. Four more people were arrested as the investigation progressed. On Saturday, Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar said online games were sometimes used to target young people for conversion to Islam and handlers from Pakistan played a key role in the racket. Police said the racket was being run under the leadership of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Delhi, who had converted to Islam in 1990, and Ayesha, a resident of Goa. Girls from Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Bareilly, Aligarh and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, and Jhajjar and Rohtak in Haryana, among other places, who were targeted by the gang, have been rescued. Commissioner Kumar said the girls were made to talk to people with Islamic beliefs and they were told "venomous things" about Hinduism. Handlers in Pakistan, including two individuals identified as Tanveer Ahmed and Sahil Adeem, helped them in these efforts. The girls were then added to WhatsApp groups where their brainwashing continued. If the girls' families protested, their minds were poisoned against them too. Mr Kumar said at least three members of the group have knowledge of the dark web and used to communicate through it. The Signal app was also used to avoid interception by security agencies. Another strategy to attract potential targets was to talk to them as they played online games. These games included Ludo, and once a conversation was started, the targets were slowly influenced by telling them things that are good about Islam. They were then taken down the conversion route.

Resettled Bru migrant Zothanga ends 5-day hunger strike in Tripura after Govt assurance

Zothanga, 77, a Reang migrant from Mizoram resettled in North Tripura district's Ashapara, ended his five-day-long hunger strike on Monday after the Tripura Government assured him that it had requested the Centre to increase the ration quota to cover the entire population of Bru migrants in the state. Zothanga started the hunger strike with three demands — immediate disbursal of rations for all resettled Bru families under the Antyodaya Annapurna Yojana (AAY), proper registration and documentation of residential plots, allocation of five hectares of agricultural land per family as per the agreement between Government of India, the state governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and Bru migrants in 2020. The hunger strike was called off after he received an assurance from Kanchanpur Subdivisional Magistrate Deepak Kumar in a letter that he wrote to the Ashapara resettlement colony in-charge, Bruno Msha. 'As per information received from revenue and food and civil supplies department, the Government of Tripura has officially requested Govt of India to increase the quota for AAY so that the entire Bru population can get ration under the AAY. As soon as that request is approved, the facility will be extended to the entire Bru population,' the SDM wrote on July 20. Stating that the ration relief quota was 'limited as of now', the SDM urged the Bru leaders to end the agitation since Zothanga was in a vulnerable shape. 'As a community, we have to help each other and the Government is also working to expand the AAY quota for the whole Bru population,' he said while stating that the administration was also discussing at the highest level the demands for plot registration in the name of the head of beneficiary families and allotment of land for agriculture. As a part of a Rs 600-crore resettlement package, the Bru migrants will get free rations and Rs 5,000 monthly per family for two years. The families will also get a Rs 1.5 lakh one-time financial support and Rs 4 lakh for constructing permanent houses. Meanwhile, six signatories of the 2020 quadripartite Bru agreement – Bruno Msha, Apeto Sawibunga, Philip Apeto, Vipin Kumar Reang, T Laldingliana and C Thankima wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, apprising him of the situation, expressing solidarity with Zothanga's protest and requesting the central government to consider the demands of the hunger strike. However, the issue took a new turn after the local administration of Kanchanpur registered an FIR against eight residents of the Ashapara resettlement colony, accusing them of instigating Zothanga to start the hunger strike. Zothanga's 'supporters' booked for attempt to murder SDM Deepak Kumar wrote to the Kanchanpur subdivisional police officer on Monday, 'Mr Zothanga, resident of Ashapara, has been on hunger strike for past 6 days, who is being instigated by other residents including Gobinda Reang (secretary Ashapara camp), Dobwung Reang D/o Zothanga, Joherung Reang, Malsawma Reang, Biaki Reang, Rinchhana s/o Zothanga , Daniala Apeto s/o Zothanga and Achaushsa Bru S/o Lalhmingthanga to fulfil their demands.' His letter also said that 'as per medical check-up', Zothanga was not in a fair state of mind for giving proper instruction and receiving too and, thus, making decisions and providing consent, as a result of which, on his behalf other residents stationed nearby him were allegedly passing several instructions which is making him bound to stay there without any food and proper medical treatment. 'This type of action may lead to the undesired consequences including death of Mr Zothanga, who is already 77 years of age,' the SDM wrote and got the FIR registered on charges of attempt to murder, depriving a senior citizen of proper medical care, and binding down a senior citizen to a fixed place without food.

Child marriage case registered after SC directive on minor's plea

Patna: Following a Supreme Court (SC) directive, a case was registered in Patna district under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act against the parents of a 16-year-old girl and a 32-year-old man, who had got married last year, police said on Wednesday. Police are currently searching for the priest and facilitator who conducted the wedding ceremony in Naubatpur block of Patna district on Dec 9, 2024. The victim had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking annulment of her marriage, claiming it was forced upon her. Phulwarisharif subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Deepak Kumar said that marriages involving girls under 18 years of age and boys under 21 are illegal. "In her petition, the minor alleged physical and mental abuse by her husband. She expressed her desire to continue her education and build a career. On March 31, she fled her home with the help of a friend. Subsequently, on April 4, 2025, her family filed a kidnapping case at Piplawan police station against her friend and his family members, after which the minor moved the apex court," the SDPO said. Her family cited parental illness as the reason for arranging the marriage. The Supreme Court, after hearing the case, issued notices to Delhi and Bihar Police, directing them to ensure the safety of the girl and her friend who helped her escape. The court also ordered appropriate action in the matter. The minor girl stated she does not wish to return to her in-laws' house, and wants to live on her own terms. "The investigation is currently ongoing. Legal action is being taken against all parties involved in facilitating the illegal marriage," the SDPO said.
