Former constable sentenced to life imprisonment for girlfriend's murder
Kgabo Vincent Rammutla was sentenced for the 2017 murder of his 29-year-old girlfriend Lisbeth Seloma.
TimesLIVE previously reported the incident occurred at the couple's home in Mamelodi where they were renting a back room.
On the night of the murder an argument broke out after Seloma told Rammutla, 41, who was stationed at Eersterust police station, of her decision to end their relationship and move out. During the altercation, Rammutla shot her multiple times with his service pistol.
Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Lizzy Suping said police were called and they found Rammutla bleeding from the head and disarmed him.
'The girlfriend was found lying in a pool of blood. The paramedics were called and they declared the girlfriend dead,' said Suping.
Rammutla apparently tried to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head but survived.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.
Suping said the matter initially went through an inquest at Mamelodi magistrate's court before the director of public prosecutions and Ipid ordered that it be referred to the high court for trial.
'Rammutla was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment,' Suping said.

Extortion suspect killed in shootout with Eastern Cape police
Police had been investigating an extortion ring that was allegedly claiming protection fees from teachers in the Eastern Cape. Police in the Eastern Cape have killed a man linked to an alleged extortion ring. Officers traced the suspect to an area near Ngqeleni, roughly 50km north of Coffee Bay, where a shootout occurred. Officers recovered a 9mm and ammunition, and the unharmed passenger has been taken in for further questioning. 'The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) will investigate the shooting as per standard protocol,' Gantana stated. Alleged extortion of teachers Teachers at Dalibhunga Senior Secondary School in Ngqeleni lodged a complaint on 26 July regarding a gang that was extorting money from them. 'Teachers at the school discovered a threatening note on the premises. The note, allegedly from an extortionist group, demands a monthly protection fee of R1 000 from each teacher,' confirmed Gantana. Provincial police commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso described the alleged crimes as 'an attack on our education system and community stability'. Police are still searching for additional suspects and are urging members of the community to assist authorities with information that could lead to arrests. 'We are treating this threat with the utmost urgency. The organised crime unit is utilising all available resources to identify those responsible,' stated Kupiso. Search still on for kidnapped Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga: police
Police have dismissed claims circulating on social media that kidnapped businessman Jerry Boshoga has been found dead. Police spokesperson Brig Athlenda Mathe confirmed on Thursday the investigation into his kidnapping was still at a sensitive stage and that the businessman had not yet been found. 'We call on all social media users to stop the spread of unverified information. Social media users are also urged to spare a thought for the family of the victim. The spreading of such misleading information has caused unnecessary trauma, panic and anxiety for close family members including his mother, wife and children,' she said. Mathe said police were in close contact with the family and if there were any developments in the case, the family would be the first to be notified by the investigating team. Boshoga, from Silver Lakes, Pretoria, was kidnapped in Centurion in November last year and his kidnappers demanded a R10m ransom, sending videos to the family purporting to show him being tortured. Hawks arrest Gauteng traffic cop and accomplice for corruption
A Gauteng traffic police official and a civilian are expected to appear before the Lenasia magistrate's court on Thursday to face extortion and corruption charges. The pair, both aged 50, were arrested on Tuesday. 'A complaint was received from a business owner about a Gauteng traffic police official who on a monthly basis visits the business premises saying that the business operating licences are not legitimate and demands money as gratification to not have the business closed,' Hawks spokesperson W/O Thatohatsi Mavimbela said. The traffic official is alleged to have demanded R10,000 monthly from the business owner. On Tuesday, the traffic official and his accomplice visited the business premises where they arrested one of the employees, later released the employee and took the business' operating certificates as well as R3,000 from the business's petty cash and informed the owner that they would return the certificates upon receiving the R7,000 balance. 'The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation unit which led to the subsequent arrest of the suspects at Zakariyya Park after the pair received the requested balance from the complainant.' Hawks head in Gauteng Maj-Gen Ebrahim Kadwa commended the investigation team for its diligence and dedication in making sure it caught the suspects. TimesLIVE
