Cops detain three, rescue farm worker from Beed

Pune: Chandannagar police on Wednesday detained three men from Rajegaon in Beed district and rescued a 30-year-old sugarcane farm worker.
Two of the three men allegedly abducted the farm worker around 8am on June 30.
When the worker did not return home late that night, his wife (25) contacted all her relatives to enquire about her husband.
No one knew where her husband was. Further inquiry revealed that two men abducted him and took him to Rajegaon in Beed district.
Senior inspector Seema Dhakane of Chandannagar police told TOI, "The victim is a sugarcane farm worker. He took an advance payment of Rs2 lakh last year from a labour contractor, who provides farm workers in Solapur and other districts."

"Last year, before Diwali, the victim worked at a farm for 15 days and left without informing anyone. He did not return the money," Dhakane said. "The labour contractor and others were searching for the worker to recover their money. They came to Pune and halted at Chandannagar. Coincidently, the victim just came in front of them and they took him into a car to Beed to recover money," she said.
"Our team studied the CCTV footage of the spot and identified the registration number of the vehicle. It led us to Rajegaon," she said.

"Supplementary artificial intelligence-powered surveillance cameras have been strategically implemented at additional locations, complementing the pre-existing monitoring infrastructure," said additional director general (ADG) Dayal Gangwar, who oversees operations at the integrated command and control centre (ICCC) for Rath Yatra. Sources said new Puri SP Pinak Mishra drafted an additional list of critical locations where camera presence is essential for effective surveillance on crowd density. While at least 70 cameras were already in place on the Grand Road, the number has now been increased to 110. Odisha State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation expeditiously installed the additional surveillance cameras on Wednesday. The corporation also conducted thorough inspections of existing cameras, recommending replacements for substandard units to maintain optimal surveillance capabilities. "Technical clarification regarding the quality of camera footage can only be provided by the designated service provider. We encountered certain operational challenges stemming from adverse weather conditions, compromised internet connectivity and power interruptions. Nevertheless, these impediments were expeditiously addressed," Gangwar told TOI. Responding to concerns regarding alleged poor functioning of the surveillance system, Gangwar said, "Our response mechanism consistently ensured immediate transmission of crowd density notifications to relevant police authorities for appropriate intervention whenever such alerts were generated through our surveillance network." During Tuesday's security assessment in Puri, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasised the paramount importance of real-time crowd density evaluation and swift operational response. The CM directed DGP Y B Khurania regarding the deployment of additional personnel, particularly those possessing specialised expertise in crowd management and traffic regulation protocols, during Sandhya Darshan (July 4), Bahuda Yatra (July 5), Suna Besha (July 6), and Niladri Bije (July 8) — all of which traditionally draw hundreds of thousands of devotees.

Traffic police warn contractors over unsafe roads amid ongoing infra works
1 2 Nagpur: With the monsoon setting in and multiple roads in the city turning dangerous due to ongoing infrastructure works, the city's traffic police have issued a strict warning to contractors over the lack of safety measures and the hazardous conditions at various project sites. The warning comes in response to reports of roads dug up for pipeline and cable laying works being left muddy, uneven, and risky for both pedestrians and motorists. TOI had recently highlighted that many contractors have been carrying out fresh digging of roads for laying pipelines and other works. Several private projects have also left roads covered with gravel and mud, posing serious threats to commuters, especially two-wheeler riders. In many cases, roads became almost unwalkable, with stagnant water and no visible safety barricades or signage. Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Fazlur Rahman Qureshi, a resident of Mominpura, pointed out that a pit dug by the NMC in front of Islamia Junior College School remains unfinished. "With the arrival of Muharram-ul-Haram, a large number of people gather in the chowk for processions. The road has become muddy and dangerous. Cops claim deceased youth had no links with Karchhana violence
1 2 Prayagraj: The Prayagraj police Wednesday clarified that the 25-year-old youth, who died at SRN Hospital late Tuesday night, had nothing to do with Karchhana violence and police actions. The police were forced to issue a statement after a group of unknown people had uploaded a video on social media alleging that Sunil, a resident of Singhpur Khurd, died at SRN hospital due to police highhandedness after the Sunday's Karchhana violence. DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Chandra Yadav told TOI: "Police came forward to dispel the rumour regarding the youth's death, who in fact died at SRN Hospital late on Tuesday night due to serious illness. The youth's death had nothing to do with Karchhana violence and police actions." Later, the family members of the deceased also came before the media and stated that Sunil died of a serious illness. The DCP said the family members told police that Sunil went to Meja on June 29 on his e-rickshaw and later came to know that he (sunil) was lying unconscious near Kohdar Road. "He complained about serious abdominal pain when family members rushed to the spot. Sunil was later taken to a local hospital for treatment. He had no injury marks. On June 30, he again complained of abdominal pain and was taken to SRN Hospital by the family members, but he died late Tuesday night. The body has been sent for postmortem," the DCP said. Cops have warned of legal action against those who circulated the fake news on social media.
