Nobody else is able to build and sell cars quite like Dacia's Denis Le Vot

I don't often get to hang out with special people who are among the best in the world at what they do. But occasionally, I've had the privilege of sitting and learning alongside former Jaguar design god Ian Callum and other legendary designers, including Frank Stephenson, in their studios.
The greatest-ever Formula One commentators – Murray Walker and Martin Brundle – welcomed me into their homes. Closely working with legendary broadcasters Sir Michael Parkinson and Andrew Neil on LBC radio changed my life – not least because they helped me secure my motoring show on the station. I've been driven by Stirling Moss, Brundle, Sebastien Loeb and Colin McRae. Nigel Mansell and Michael Schumacher also selflessly allowed me into their garages on days they won Formula One races.
Sharing a stage with F1/road car guru Gordon Murray and Nick Mason of Le Mans/Pink Floyd fame was delightful. Being summoned to General Motors' world HQ in Detroit, for a rollicking from its then CEO Rick Wagoner, was plain scary. Scarier still was a tricky chat that I endured with now-disgraced former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn.

Denis Le Vot is less familiar and a few rungs further down the 'rich and famous' ladder. But not for much longer, if he continues to do the tremendous job-creating manufacturing work he's currently doing at his factories in eastern Europe, central Asia and north Africa.
DLV's commitment to his cause has led to consequences that could never have been predicted. For example, his Sandero hatchback did the unthinkable in 2024 and beat the likes of the VW Golf and Renault 5 to win the crown of best-selling car in Europe.
But who exactly is DLV? I can answer that, because I've just had a one-to-one with the engineer turned top industry exec at his Paris office. He's a main board director at Renault Group's World HQ and, more importantly, the hands-on CEO of its Romania-based brand. Broadly, Dacia badges are worn on a range of modestly specced petrol, LPG, hybrid and pure-electric models built largely from proven Renault components.
DLV's speciality is deciding on precisely the right and fair official retail prices for his cars, then building them with those Renault parts and others – always within strictly controlled manufacturing budgets. Such cost-effective car making is profitable for him, Renault and Dacia. In turn, buyers get brilliantly priced, often four star-quality products, including the £15k Spring EV, sub-£20k Duster and £24k Bigster.
Nobody else seems willing or able to design, spec, build and sell real-world, value-for-money cars quite like budget-conscious Denis Le Vot can and does at Dacia. That's why he richly deserves his induction into The Motoring Hall of Fame in 2025. In my book, the automotive world desperately needs more DLVs.

View post: They Said the Hemi V8 Wouldn't Fit the New Charger… They Were Wrong A Rare Opportunity to Own a Ford GT Carbon Series The second-generation Ford GT is already a rare sight, but the Carbon Series takes exclusivity a step further. Introduced in 2018 as the lightest road-going variant of Ford's supercar, it was positioned between the standard GT and the stripped-down Competition Series. Only 50 examples of the Carbon Series were built, which makes it extremely scarce these days. However, a pristine example of this limited-run edition is now available, showing just 77 miles since new. Finished in Ingot Silver with Competition Orange stripes, this is a rare opportunity for collectors seeking a low-mileage, highly specified GT in near-new condition. The Carbon Series distinguishes itself with extensive exposed carbon fiber, including the front splitter, rear diffuser, side mirrors, and trim elements, as well as 20-inch gloss carbon-fiber wheels secured by titanium lug nuts. Weight-saving measures also extend to a titanium Akrapovič exhaust system and a polycarbonate rear hatch, cutting around 40 pounds compared to the standard GT. Power comes from a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 660 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The model benefits from aerodynamic and cooling updates introduced for the 2020 model year, including revised buttress air ducts and larger intercoolers. Key performance figures include a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds, a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds, and a top speed of 216 mph. A hydraulically adjustable pushrod suspension, front-axle lift system, and active rear wing contribute to both road usability and track capability. Inside, the cabin features the Dark Energy interior package, combining black Alcantara with Sparco carbon-fiber shell seats. An adjustable pedal box and steering column complement the fixed-position driver's seat. Other features include automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, a configurable digital instrument panel, and six-point harness anchors. Clear protective film is applied to bodywork and interior sills. Source: Bring a Trailer Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Current Bid Surpasses its MSRP The Ford GT Carbon Series carried a window sticker totaling $613,800 when new, but this example, up for auction on Bring a Trailer, currently has a $660,000 bid at the time of writing. It comes with its original ordering kit, window sticker, car cover, battery tender, seat covers, two keys, manufacturer's literature, and photographs documenting the build process. The clean Carfax report confirms no accidents or damage. With such low mileage and a complete set of original accessories, this GT is well-positioned to appeal to serious collectors. The combination of limited production, weight-reducing specification, and near-new condition makes it a standout offering, despite the more affordable options out there, such as the new Chevrolet Corvete ZR1X.

Car Deal of the Day: flamboyant Alfa Romeo Junior hybrid for less than £250 per month

Stylish small SUV with sporty cabin Hybrid system offers nearly 60mpg £239 per month on a four-year lease The stylish Alfa Romeo Junior was available exclusively as an EV when it finally arrived last year, but if you're not ready to go electric there's now a hybrid version called the Junior Ibrida – which literally means 'Hybrid' in Italian – and it can be yours for less than £250 a month. This four-year lease deal for the Junior Ibrida is being offered by Carwow Leasey, through the Auto Express Find A Car service. It requires an initial outlay of £3,167, followed by monthly payments of £239, and includes a standard allowance of 5,000 miles per year. Advertisement - Article continues below Of course, plenty of people cover more than that, but increasing the annual limit to 8,000 miles costs only £13 extra each month. Better still, with the allowance pushed all the way up to 10,000 miles, the same Junior Ibrida can be yours for just £259 per month. Inside, the Junior Ibrida features the same interior as the more expensive electric versions. It looks impressive and features plenty of sporty flair, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver and a raised centre console making the cabin feel more driver focused than is the case in other small SUVs. Admittedly, it's not particularly spacious in the back, but you do get 415 litres of boot capacity, which is more than a Volkswagen Golf can offer. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below There's just one specification for the Junior Ibrida, and it comes reasonably equipped with 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, dual 10.25-inch screens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED lights, rear parking sensors, keyless go and driver-assistance tech such as adaptive cruise control. The Alfa's hybrid system uses a 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine and a 28bhp electric motor that's built into the car's six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The e-motor is powered by a 0.9kWh 48-volt battery located underneath the driver's seat that's topped up by regenerative braking, meaning you don't have to worry about plugging it in anywhere to charge. The set-up produces 134bhp, 230Nm of torque and, according to the Italian firm, can return up to 58.9mpg. ‘Dad invented Freddo. He'd roll over in his grave if he knew what it costs'

The daughter of the inventor of the Freddo chocolate bar said she is 'disgusted' at how much it now costs. Leonie Wadin, 74, claimed that since the death of her father, Harry Melbourne, she had not bought one of the frog-shaped confectionaries. She told Sky News: 'Dad was disgusted with how small it is now and how much they charge for it. 'He'd roll over in his grave if he could see it now. It was a penny chocolate.' In recent years, the Freddo has become a common yardstick by which the British public track inflation. It was first sold in the UK in 1973, before being taken off the shelves the following year. In 1994, when the chocolate bar went back on sale, it cost 10p. Cost of living crisis The Freddo remained at that price until 2005, when it began increasing by about 2p every year. Today, the confectionery is sold for 30p or 35p, but has been advertised for as much as £1. Last year, a Labour MP launched a petition calling for the price of the chocolate bar to be brought down after speaking to students at a local school in his constituency. Writing on X, Patrick Hurley said: 'Twenty pence for a Freddo is too much, especially in a cost of living crisis.' If the price of a Freddo had increased in line with inflation, it would now sell for about 21p. Ms Wadin's British father invented the Freddo in 1930 while working for an Australian company while just 14. She said: 'He said children are scared of mice, so why not a frog? Because kids go down to the lake and catch tadpoles.' Almost 100 years later, her family still takes pride in their connection to the Freddo bar. Ms Wadin added: 'They're very proud of their great-grandad, they still buy them, they love them. Carry on through every heritage, that's what I want. Never going to die 'The Freddo has to be passed on, Freddo is never going to die. It will always be there… I just want it all passed down, so that the frog is always in our lives.' Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury, told Sky News that Freddo had endured popularity across generations since launching in Britain in 1973. They said: 'Whilst it's important to stress that as a manufacturer we do not set the retail prices for products sold in shops, our manufacturing and supply chain costs have increased significantly over the past 50 years, and Freddo has become more expensive to make. 'We have absorbed these increased costs wherever possible. However, on occasion we have made changes to our list prices or multipack sizes to ensure that we can continue to provide consumers with the Freddo that they love, without compromising on the great taste and quality they expect.' Earlier this month, the Bank of England warned that rising food prices could push inflation to 4 per cent. The Monetary Policy Committee said that poor global coffee and cocoa harvests were partly to blame. The price of food, clothing, air and rail fares all contributed to the rate of inflation reaching 3.6 percent last month – the highest rate since January 2024.
