Raymond Blanc hails work in hospitality during careers fair at Dumfries House
Blanc, 75, who became an ambassador for the foundation in March, spoke to 250 pupils from 16 schools at the event at Dumfries House, East Ayrshire, on Tuesday.
The French chef, who has two Michelin stars at his Oxfordshire hotel and restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, shared stories about working his way up the ranks in kitchens, after starting as a pot-washer, and gave them an insight into the variety of jobs in the industry.
Blanc has mentored notable chefs including Heston Blumenthal and Marco Pierre White, and also worked with aspiring chefs on BBC programme The Restaurant between 2007 and 2009 when couples competed to open a restaurant with his support.

Dumfries House hosts an introduction to hospitality course run by the foundation, which aims to provide students with the skills, experience and confidence to work in both front and back-of-house roles. The course is accredited by City and Guilds and includes a week-long industry placement.
Blanc, a father-of-two, said he is using his new role to 'encourage excellence' in the next generation working in hospitality.
He said: 'At their age, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I started off as a cleaner before becoming the best dishwasher and glass cleaner.
'It's so important that young people are encouraged and supported to work in the hospitality industry as there's an enormous opportunity there for those willing to work hard.
'Education is something that's very important to me so I was proud to be a part of The King's Foundation's hospitality careers fair.
'Young people need good mentors to reach their full potential.
'As an ambassador for The King's Foundation, I want to take what we've learnt at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons and pair it with the excellent work of The King's Foundation to encourage excellence amongst the next generation of culinary and horticulture professionals.'
Livia Alexander, hospitality education manager at the foundation, said: 'The hospitality industry continues to face challenges in terms of recruitment and retention, and events like this are so important as they show young people what the industry is really like, and give them an insight into the careers available.
'Having Raymond Blanc OBE come and talk to the pupils was an amazing opportunity for them.
'His story is so incredible, and the pupils left feeling inspired and motivated.'

Fans were delighted that the 85-year-old presented the soap award to the EastEnders cast, taking to social media to sing his praises. Zoe Ball joins forces with family for brand-new 'fascinating' series
Radio 2 star Zoe Ball could be fronting a brand-new factual series with a few of her family members in the near future BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball has been eyeing up a new role with a few of her family members for a brand-new 'fascinating and revealing' programme. Broadcaster and presenter Zoe, 54, has previously appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with her DJ son Woody Cook, so working with family isn't new to her. And now, it has been announced that Zoe and her son Woody will hopefully be joining her presenter father, Johnny Ball, on his new factual series about mathematics. The new show will be exploring the "history of maths" and will be based on the first six chapters of his book, Wonders Beyond Numbers. Speaking to The Sun, Johnny - who is hoping to convince TV bosses to commission the series - explained: "The material can be honed down to the essentials, so that anyone could present it in a light and transparent way. 'This is why I believe myself, Zoe and my grandson Woody could add all what each age group requires to make it a fascinating and revealing series.' Meanwhile, in early May, Zoe returned to radio just five months after quitting her beloved show. The radio DJ left her much-loved breakfast show last year, with her pal Scott Mills taking over, leaving her fans devastated by the shock departure. She had fronted her show for six years, but admitted it was time to "start a new chapter". Her decision came just months after her extended absence from the BBC during the summer following her mother's death. After bursting into tears on her final show, she made a comeback in the first week of May. Zoe returned with a bang on her new afternoon show as she played a few of her favourite songs and talked to the listeners. Highly-rated BBC show loved by fans coming to an end
Boarders, which follows five underprivileged students from inner-city London who win scholarships to an elite boarding school, has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100%. The popular school programme made its debut last year and currently has two seasons available to watch on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. BBC comedy series Boarders to come to an end after three seasons According to The Sun, the third series of the show will be its last, seeing fans across the country left disappointed. The new series will see Jodie Campbell, Sekou Diaby, Aruna Jalloh, Myles Kamwendo, and Josh Tedeku reprise their roles. Discussing the show, writer, creator and executive producer Daniel Lawrence Taylor, said: 'Boarders has been a deeply personal project for me, and it's been incredible to see how audiences have connected with the characters.
