TDA ENHANCES MYCIEDS FOR IMPROVED IMPORT-EXPORT EFFICIENCY

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- The Technology Depository Agency Bhd (TDA) has upgraded the Malaysian Customs Import Export Document System (MyCIEDS) to an integrated digital system.
The system, set to be rolled out nationwide, enhances the management of import and export support documents for the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD).
In a statement today, TDA, an agency under the Finance Ministry, said the MyCIEDS facilitates the RMCD's monitoring, storage, and access of relevant documents, while enhancing customs operations to accelerate goods clearance.
The system was redeveloped to incorporate the latest technology by Edaran IT Services Sdn Bhd under the Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP), built on the Document Management System technology and integrated with the Customs Information System.
It is expected to play a key role in the digitalisation of customs services while strengthening the efficiency of Malaysia's trade border management.
TDA chief executive officer Sharoul Jambari said MyCIEDS is expected to enhance RMCD's operational zones nationwide and positively impact the smoothness of trade chains and the competitiveness of the national economy.
He added that ICP not only fulfils procurement obligations but also acts as a catalyst for technology transfer, local expertise development and long-term value creation for the country.
'Through this approach, we can ensure a lasting impact on the economy and the local industry ecosystem,' he said.
To date, TDA has successfully implemented 142 ICP programmes under government procurement.

Malaysia aims to continue as ITU council member, says Fahmi
TOKYO: Malaysia intends to continue its membership as a Council Member of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the 2027-2030 session, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said that as such, Malaysia hopes to gain support from several countries in the Asia-Pacific region through bilateral meetings held in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Ministerial Meeting (APT-MM) currently underway here. "As a Council Member, Malaysia plays a role in determining the direction of ITU's strategic policies, overseeing the implementation of decisions made during the conference as well as representing the interests of the Asian region and developing countries in the field of telecommunications and digital infrastructure," he told Bernama here today. Earlier, he held a bilateral discussion with ITU, which was represented by its Director of Telecommunications Development Bureau, Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava. Bilateral meetings were also held with Japan's Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Murakami Seiichiro, and China's Vice-Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Zhang Yunming. "These meetings yielded good results. We also emphasised Malaysia's efforts in ensuring internet networks are not only widespread but also more secure," he said. Meanwhile, Fahmi said that the ITU has invited Malaysia to attend several summits organised by the ITU. "The first one is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia around early September and the second in Baku, Azerbaijan in November," he said. The two-day APT-MM 2025, themed "Harnessing Emerging Technologies for Sustainable, Inclusive and Equitable Digital Transformation in the Asia-Pacific" and which began yesterday, brings together 31 member countries and 19 affiliates comprising governments, regulators and private agencies from the Asia-Pacific region.

U Mobile appoints CIMB as loan coordinator for RM4bil 5G funding
KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile has appointed CIMB as its loan coordinator and mandated lead arranger, securing up to RM4 billion in financing to support the nationwide deployment of its Next Gen 5G network infrastructure. In a joint statement, U Mobile said the funding would accelerate its capital expenditure (capex), aiming to achieve 80 per cent coverage of populated areas (COPA) by July 2026. As part of the arrangement, CIMB will contribute at least RM1.5 billion, with the remaining amount syndicated among other financial institutions. "This milestone underscores U Mobile's continued momentum as the nation's newest 5G network provider, spurring digital connectivity and innovation, solidifying Malaysia's digital ambitions," the statement said.– BERNAMA
