Big blow to guerrilla movement, top commanders surrender
1 2 Nagpur: In a significant blow to the Maoist movement in the Dandakaranya region, 12 senior Maoists surrendered before chief minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to Gadchiroli district on Friday. The event, attended by state minister and Gadchiroli's co-guardian minister Ashish Jaiswal, marks a milestone in the state's ongoing efforts to curb Naxalism through its surrender and rehabilitation policy, in place since 2005. The surrendered Maoists include high-ranking members, including Sapna alias Swapnakka Buchayya Chaudhary, 55, a divisional committee member (DVCM) of the Indravati Area, Ramdas alias Somaji Halami, 55, DVCM of Kutul area committee, and Shivlal alias Sukalu Pada, 60, DVCM of Kutul Dalam, among others. The group also comprised commanders, deputy commanders, and members of various Maoist units, hailing from Gadchiroli and neighbouring districts in Chhattisgarh. Since 2005, 704 Maoists have surrendered before Gadchiroli police, reflecting the success of the state's dual approach of security operations and rehabilitation. Earlier this year, on January 1, around 11 hardened Maoists, including Tarakka Sidam of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, had also surrendered before chief minister Fadnavis, further weakening the Maoist stronghold. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Tarakka's husband, Bhupathi alias Sonu, a veteran guerrilla, is yet to surrender despite seeking truce with security forces. Drop gates to be set up at 20 spots to prevent entry, exit of criminals: IG
1 2 3 South Chotanagpur zone inspector general Manoj Koushik has joined the office recently following a major reshuffle in the police administration. Among the major issues in districts under his jurisdiction are cybercrime, extremism, drug peddling and organized crime. He talks to TOI's Sanjay Sahay about the plans and measures for overall crime control. Excerpts... What measures are underway to eliminate extremism from South Chotanagpur which includes a Maoist hotbed in West Singhbhum district? Chaibasa (West Singhbhum), where top Maoist leaders are hiding, is the only core area of the rebels in the state. State police and CRPF are conducting joint operations to sanitize the area. In some districts like Ranchi, Khunti, Loharadga and Gumla, the splinter groups of Maoists have a presence but their activities have dwindled considerably. The active groups are mainly criminals using the name of the rebels to extort money. Most of these anti-social elements are identified and actions are being taken against them. I also request people to inform the police if there are extortion calls from organised crime groups. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Azioni Italia fino a 2€ BG SAXO Scopri di più Undo Cybercrime is on the rise. What steps police have taken to curb it? Awareness is necessary to save citizens from falling victim to cybercriminals. The elderly, who are soft targets of such criminals, should be also focused. I have instructed Ranchi police to improve their achievement against cybercriminals with the help of the Pratibimb app. Directions have been issued for registration of cases as soon as they are reported and for immediate action. We will also try to take financial institutions on board for the speedy recovery of money cheated from the victims. What steps will be taken to address the public grievances? In my meeting with Ranchi police recently, I instructed them to ensure speedy disposal of public complaints lodged with the centralized public grievance redressal and monitoring system. This system will be on vigil in other districts, too. We are planning to give a copy of the inquiry report to the complainants if it does not involve confidential information. The citizens will have the option of disputing the report at higher levels. What are your instructions to prevent crime in the state capital? I have asked the police personnel to identify entry and exit points of Ranchi city and build infrastructure so that it could be sealed immediately when a crime is committed. So far, around 20 spots have been selected in this regard. We will set up drop gates at these places. The step will also enable regular checking, which will prevent inter-district and inter-state movement of smugglers and other criminal groups.
