New York mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, Mira Nair's son, has been accused of Hindu hatred.
Indian-origin New York politician Jenifer Rajkumar slammed Mira Nair's son Zohran Mamdani, the New York mayoral candidate from the Socialist Party, for a recent statement against India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an open forum.
At the forum, he was asked a hypothetical question that if Indian PM Narendra Modi holds a rally in Madison Square Garden and then wants to address a joint press conference with the mayor of New York, would he join that? Mamadani, who has a strong connection with India as both his parents -- father Mahmood Mamdani and mother Mira Nair -- were born in India, said he won't join.
Mamdani elaborated on his answer and said his father is a Gujarati Muslim, and then compared the Indian PM with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Jennifer Rajkumar strongly reacted to the statement and said such divisive language about foreign leaders should have no place in the New York mayoral poll when there are real issues. 'At a time when New Yorkers are struggling with real issues—rising crime, a housing crisis, and growing hate—we cannot afford to be distracted by extreme, divisive language about foreign leaders,' Rajkumar said to New York Post.
'Hinduism is a faith of peace, nonviolence, and interfaith harmony.

Hindu voters want our leaders to build bridges—not burn them. We must reject hate—whether it comes from the far left or the far right. Our city deserves leaders who unite, not provoke—who build coalitions, not headlines,' Rajkumar said.
Jaspreet Singh, a Sikh community leader and human rights lawyer, said to the NYP, 'Hate has no place in our city. We believe in equality, love and respect for all. We believe all are children of the same God.
'But Zohran has used his platform to amplify some of the worst anti-Hindu rhetoric imaginable. Words matter, and instead of uniting the Indian community, he seeks to divide us by religion, pitting Muslims and Hindus against each other. Associating Hindus with fascism and using derogatory words against them is highly objectionable.'
A staunch critic of the BJP, Mamdani in 2020 led a mob of protesters in Times Square who called Hindus basta**ds.

Bengal clashes: Suvendu Adhikari demands compensation for vandalised shops
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has demanded compensation for shopkeepers whose shops were vandalised in the Rabindra Nagar area of Maheshtala (South 24 Parganas). This comes after clashes erupted between two groups in the area on June 11, which left several police and locals injured and many cars and shops vandalised. Standing outside the West Bengal Legislative Assembly along with other Bhartiya Janta Party leaders on June 13, Mr Adhikari said that adequate compensation should be ensured for victims. 'They vandalised shops, cars, looted shops of 'Hindus', the 'other' community has done the same thing in Samserganj and Suti,' Mr Adhikari said. This came in reference to the communal riots in Murshidabad in April. The LoP also announced that BJP MLAs will participate in a protest against the Maheshtala violence on June 14 right outside the Assembly premises. He also alleged that they are not being 'allowed' to discuss the matter inside the Assembly. 'Our representatives will go to Rabindra Nagar on Saturday, including MLA Agnimitra Paul. If they stop us, we will protest wherever they stop us,' Mr Adhikari added. He also said that they will spend their own MLA salaries to offer medical assistance to the people who have been injured in the communal clashes in Rabindra Nagar. He also offered to pay for any other assistance that the affected 'Hindus' may need stating that the party will never 'abandon' one of their own. Violence broke out in Ward No. 7, Maheshtala, on Wednesday morning, reportedly over the setting up of a shop. The police resorted to tear gas shelling and baton charges to disperse the crowd. Till now the West Bengal Police have arrested 40 people in connection with the violence. Seven FIRs have also been filed. The State BJP accused the police of trying to 'whitewash a communal attack' and sought the deployment of Central forces. The ruling Trinamool Congress, in turn, accused the BJP of trying to incite communal passions. Mr Adhikari met Governor C.V. Ananda Bose and also moved the Calcutta High Court on June 12 asking for Central Force deployment in the violence-hit areas.

State govt to join hands with 5 leading foreign universities for education city in Navi Mumbai
MUMBAI: The state government will present Letters of Intent (LOIs) to five leading foreign universities as part of the 'Mumbai Rising – Creating an International Education City' initiative. The official ceremony will take place at noon today at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. The five universities invited to establish campuses in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai include the University of Aberdeen, the University of York, the University of Western Australia, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the chief guest at the event. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil are also expected to attend. The initiative, led by the Government of Maharashtra with support from CIDCO, aims to develop an International Education City near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The education hub, spanning a 5-km radius, will be the first of its kind in the country offering students access to high-quality international education within India. Officials said that the project could not only improve academic standards in India but also promote cultural exchange and collaboration between Indian and international students and faculty. 'The International Education City will help bring global education to our doorstep and create opportunities for students from across India,' a government official stated.
