A sprinkling of sublime for TE Lawrence's grave

There is that 'great man' moment in David Lean's cinematic masterpiece Lawrence of Arabia when Peter O'Toole's Lawrence is trying to persuade his sceptical Bedouin lieutenant (Omar Sharif) that it is indeed possible to cross hundreds of miles of waterless desert and take the fortified port of Aqaba, held by the Turks, from the landward side. 'Aqaba is over there,' he says, pointing into the furnace. 'It's only a matter of going.'
That journey in 1917, the crossing of the uncrossable, of what Sharif's character calls the 'Devil's Anvil', was the defining moment for Thomas Edward Lawrence. His legend grew from there.Lawrence's life ended not with a Turkish bullet or a last drop of stagnant water but at the age of 46 with a

Sabrina Carpenter reveals bum in cheeky jean shorts for new video and fans think she's teasing new music

SABRINA Carpenter showed off her peachy bum in a new video while donning ultra cropped jean shorts. The hitmaker, 26, showed off her toned bottom in some shorts as she thumbed a car with little success. 6 6 6 In the video, Sabrina could be seen standing on a deserted road in the middle of a desert. Wearing tiny blue denim shorts and a white shirt, Sabrina wore her blond locks in her classic curly style. She rocked some heeled sandals and had a suitcase that stood by her feet. Attempting to hitchhike, Sabrina had no luck and later said "oh boy" after the silent video came to an end. Fans instantly thought that the short video clip was a teaser for new music that might drop this Friday. "NEW MUSIC!?????????" asked one enthusiastic fan. "SHE'S SECURING SONG OF THE SUMMER," penned a third, NEW SONG OF THE SUMMER? While a fourth said: "SONG OF THE SUMMER INCOMING." And a fifth wrote: "New music please please please." Sabrina Carpenter shows ex Barry Keoghan what he's missing as she goes pantless on the Met Gala red carpet But although many fans were convinced that Sabrina was teasing new music, some thought a music video for an already released song, or possibly a remix might be coming. "It has to be a busy woman mv bc of the suitcase," said one fan. "Bed Chem FT. Nicki??????" asked another. A third then quizzed: "slim pickins music video????" While a fourth wrote: "HAS to be a busy woman MV!" This comes after we revealed that Sabrina is wanted to feature in a seriously massive movie. STARRING ROLE FOR SABRINA? She is wanted to star in the upcoming feel-good film of Mamma Mia 3. Producer Judy Craymer, who had the idea for the original stage show — and has finished a script for a third movie — said: 'She'd be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep.' Speaking about the project, 67-year-old Judy told Hollywood news site Deadline: 'Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen. 'And I mean, we brought together this amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it, and huge friendships evolved.' Sabrina is known to be a big Abba fan and has covered some of their songs on her Short n' Sweet tour. She also has cats called Benny and Björn — and last month met the real Björn Ulvaeus, 80, in Stockholm. Amanda Seyfried, 39, who plays Sophie the films, previously said she could see Sabrina playing her daughter, despite an age gap of just 13 years. She said: 'Old age make-up for me. 'If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen. It's fine. I'm a big fan.' 6 6 6

Israeli soldiers bar media from visiting West Bank villages on tour organized by Oscar winners

Israeli soldiers on Monday barred journalists from entering villages in the West Bank on a planned tour organized by the directors of the Oscar-winning movie 'No Other Land." The directors of the film, which focuses on Israeli settler attacks on Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied territory, said they had invited the journalists on the tour Monday to interview residents about increasing settler violence in the area. In video posted on X by the film's co-director, Yuval Abraham, an Israeli soldier tells a group of international journalists there is "no passage' in the area because of a military order. Basel Adra, a Palestinian co-director of the film who lives in the area, said the military then blocked the journalists from entering two Palestinian villages they had hoped to visit. Israel's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 'They don't want the world to see what is happening here' 'They don't want journalists to visit the villages to meet the residents,' said Adra, who had invited the journalists to his home. 'It's clear they don't want the world to see what is happening here.' Some of the surrounding area, including a collection of small Bedouin villages known as Masafer Yatta, was declared by the military to be a live-fire training zone in the 1980s. Some 1,000 Palestinians have remained there despite being ordered out, and journalists, human rights activists and diplomats have visited the villages in the past. Palestinian residents in the area have reported increasing settler violence since Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel and kickstarted the war in the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers regularly move in to demolish homes, tents, water tanks and olive orchards — and Palestinians fear outright expulsion could come at any time. Adra said the journalists were eventually able to enter one of the villages in Masafer Yatta, but were barred from entering Tuwani, the village where he lives, and Khallet A-Daba, where he had hoped to take them. Adra said settlers arrived in Khallet A-Daba Monday and took over some of the caves where village residents live, destroying residents' belongings and grazing hundreds of sheep on village lands. The military demolished much of the village last month. Film won several awards 'No Other Land,' which won the Oscar this year for best documentary, chronicles the struggle by residents to stop the Israeli military from demolishing their villages. The joint Palestinian-Israeli production was directed by Adra, Hamdan Ballal, another Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta, along with Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The film has won a string of international awards. Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast war, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem. The Palestinians want all three for their future state and view settlement growth as a major obstacle to a two-state solution. Israel has built well over 100 settlements, home to over 500,000 settlers who have Israeli citizenship. The 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank live under seemingly open-ended Israeli military rule, with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority administering population centers. ___
