Thousands of refugees have crossed into India's northeastern state of Mizoram following clashes between two anti-junta armed groups in neighbouring Myanmar, Indian authorities said on Monday.
According to a senior security official, the influx began on July 2 after fighting broke out between two rival Chin groups — the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) and the Chinland Defence Force-Hualngoram (CDF-H) — over control of strategic areas in Myanmar's northwestern Chin State.
The official, who requested anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media, said approximately 4,000 refugees had entered Mizoram since the conflict began.
Mizoram shares a border with areas in Myanmar controlled by Chin groups. The state has deep ethnic ties with the Chin people and has been a haven for tens of thousands of refugees since Myanmar's military coup in 2021.

Mizoram's interior minister, K. Sapdanga, confirmed the new arrivals, estimating the number at around 3,000.
'The fighting is beyond our control. People have come in and on humanitarian grounds, we have to provide drinking water, food and shelter,' Sapdanga told Reuters.
As of Sunday night, authorities had documented 3,980 people in two villages — Zokhawthar and Saikhumphai — in Champhai district, according to the official.
'It is a tentative number and keeps changing. Initially, very few people had come, but as the fighting intensified and got closer to the border, more people started coming in,' the official said.

Stay away from Indian waters, fishermen warned

In light of India's baseless allegations and its recent military defeat against Pakistan, authorities have issued strong advisory to fishermen in Thatta, urging them to exercise extreme caution near the Pakistan-India maritime border. The official statement warned that given the prevailing hostility, India may resort to deceitful actions, including provocations or false flag operations. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing close to the maritime boundary or crossing into Indian waters, particularly in the disputed creek areas. The advisory highlighted the serious risks of Indian security forces detaining Pakistani fishermen and falsely accusing them of sabotage or terrorism, which could lead to unnecessary diplomatic tensions. Fishermen have been urged to prioritise their safety, avoid the Indian creeks, and refrain from any actions that could endanger their livelihood or well-being. According to Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) as many as 100 innocent Pakistani fishermen are currently held in Indian jails under allegations of violating maritime boundaries. These detained fishermen belong to Thatta, Sujawal, Jati, Keti Bunder, and many areas in Karachi.

13 terrorists killed in separate operations in Malakand, Kalat: ISPR

Security forces have killed 13 Indian-backed terrorists during separate operations in Kalat and Malakand districts, the military's media wing said on Sunday. Security forces killed four terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan's Kalat. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was launched on July 19-20 based on reports about the presence of militants linked to 'Indian proxy network Fitna al Hindustan.' Security forces effectively engaged the hideout, and following an intense exchange of fire, four terrorists were 'sent to hell,' the ISPR said in its statement. The slain terrorists were allegedly involved in multiple acts of terrorism in the area. A cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered during the operation, it said. A follow-up sanitisation operation is underway to eliminate any remaining threat, the military said, adding that Pakistan's security forces remain determined to root out 'Indian-sponsored terrorism' and reaffirm the nation's resolve to bring perpetrators to justice. Nine terrorists killed in Hangu operation Meanwhile, nine Indian sponsored terrorists were killed, while eight others were apprehended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Malakand region. 'From 16-20 July 2025, a joint intelligence based operation was conducted by the security forces along with police, Levies, CTD and district administration in Malakand district, on reported presence of khwarij belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna al Khwarij,' the ISPR said. The security forces surrounded and effectively engaged the khwarij location, and 'after intense multiple fire exchanges nine Indian sponsored khwarij were sent to hell, while eight khwarij were apprehended'. Two hideouts used by khwarij were also busted and a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered, it said. 'Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to the State's counter terrorism efforts,' the ISPR said. The military's media wing said sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Kharji found in the area, as the security forces and law enforcement agencies are determined to wipe out the menace of Indian sponsored terrorism from the country. The development comes days after a Pakistan Army officer was martyred while three terrorists affiliated with the Indian-backed outfit Fitna al Hindustan were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan's Awaran district.
