Def Leppard drummer admits he's still ‘struggling' two years after madman attacked him outside hotel

New York Post23-04-2025

It's been two years since Rick Allen, the legendary drummer from Def Leppard, was randomly attacked outside a Florida hotel, and the 61-year-old musician is still struggling with the aftermath.
'I've been going through some challenging times, kind of related to what happened in Florida,' Allen said during an appearance on SiriusXM's 'Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk.' 'And that whole thing is ongoing, when I got beaten up outside the hotel. So I've been trying to deal with that the best that I can, and really I just needed to take a break from some of the side projects that I was busy with, just so I could spend more time at home.'

'That's been a real challenge for me,' Allen, who will join Def Leppard's stadium tour this summer, continued. 'Hopefully I can put it all behind me and I can just kind of get back to as normal as I could possibly be given the circumstances. But that was very traumatic for me, and yeah, it's been difficult. But hopefully I can put it behind me soon.'
In March 2023, Allen was attacked by a 19-year-old outside a Fort Lauderdale hotel.
Allen, who was in town for a gig with the rock band, was smoking a cigarette outside the Four Seasons near the valet when Max Hartley, who had reportedly been hiding behind a pole, ran at the musician and allegedly knocked him over. The fall caused Allen to hit his head on the ground, causing injury, police reported at the time.
An unnamed woman came to Allen's defense and was then also allegedly attacked by Hartley, who knocked her to the ground and began repeatedly striking her. She was able to run back into the hotel, but was followed by Hartley, who allegedly grabbed the woman by her hair and dragged her outside, according to the report.

The 19-year-old was arrested later after fleeing the area. Police said he was found by Conrad hotel staff nearby while he walked through the parking garage allegedly damaging vehicles. Hartley was charged with four felony counts of criminal mischief, one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of aggravated battery.
Police noted in the report that the victim had lost his arm in 1984. Allen was involved in a near-fatal car crash that year that took his left arm. Afterward, he had to re-teach himself how to play drums.

A few days after the attack, Allen thanked his supporters for their ongoing love and encouragement.
'Thank you everyone for your overwhelming support,' he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. 'Your love and prayers are truly helping.'
'My wife Lauren was thankfully not with me at the time of the incident. We are together now, and working on recovering in a safe space.'

'We are focusing on healing for everyone involved,' Allen continued. 'We ask you to join us in our effort to move from confusion and shock to compassion and empathy. We understand this act of violence can be triggering for so many people.'

Hailee Steinfeld, Josh Allen share one rule they had for their wedding

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are sharing intimate details from their wedding day during the latest edition of the actress's newsletter, Beau Society. On Friday, June 13, Steinfeld sent out the 39th issues of her newsletter, aptly named 'The Wedding Issue', to her subscribers. Steinfeld and Allen, quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, exchanged vows on May 31, and she used the newsletter to give her fans some insight into their special day. 'I'm sitting here with Josh, and we're reminiscing on the best weekend of our lives for the millionth time,' Steinfeld shared. 'As you know, I'm always somewhere in between wanting to share every detail and wanting to keep them close to my heart. But Beau Society felt like the right place to share some of the love and magic that made up our wedding weekend.' Steinfeld added that they had 'so much fun' putting together this particular issue. Steinfeld talked about the moments they set aside for their family throughout the weekend and how she and Allen set aside some time for themselves amidst the wedding chaos. 'On the morning of our wedding, Josh and I met for breakfast just before 7,' she shared. 'I'm so glad we did that. I don't think I could've gone the whole day without seeing him! We had a little spread, which included my favorite lemon ricotta pancakes.' Steinfeld talked about her dress, which Allen said left him 'stunned' when he first saw it as she walked down the aisle, and called Allen 'the man of every dream I've ever had' as he stood there waiting for her in his tux. Steinfeld's something blue 'all weekend' was her mom, and her dad walked her down the aisle. And as the actress explained, they only had one rule the whole weekend; 'no phones.' 'We had the amazing Jose Villa and his team with us from Thursday through Sunday to capture all the love,' Steinfeld explained. 'We had a no-phone wedding — we wanted everyone to come and be present. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we made. But that meant Jose had his work cut out for him, capturing all the magic for us.' 'I metaphorically threw my phone in the ocean before our wedding weekend, and it was the best thing ever. 11/10 recommend being unplugged and present,' she continued. Steinfeld wrote that 'it was blue skies, 75 and sunny the entire weekend,' except for when she and Allen walked down the aisle as husband and wife for the first time. 'The coolest thing happened after we got married: We walked off the aisle to 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours),' and it started thundering. No rain, just thunder and lightning. Magical.' In the end, Steinfeld said she is 'sure we're forgetting so many things we'll want to mention later, but suffice it to say, it was perfect — the whole entire thing. The next day, Josh and I ran off into the sunset to our honeymoon (more on that later?). Now we're back, and it's been a whole 13 days of being married, and we'll be staying on this high forever!'

NY judge censured for comparing other jurist, worker to steamy ‘Body Heat' stars

He's the one feeling the heat now. An upstate judge is in hot water for suggesting another jurist was having a steamy relationship with a local government worker — a la William Hurt and Kathleen Turner in the flick 'Body Heat.' Rossie Town Judge Philip Gentile was presiding over his St. Lawrence County courtroom in January 2023 when he claimed on the side to a prosecutor that a jurist and code-enforcement officer in a neighboring town were 'very tight' — comparing their relationship to the racy 1981 hit movie, according to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct on Friday. 3 An upstate judge suggested another jurist and a local government worker were acting as if they were in the flick 'Body Heat,' state officials said. The Legacy Collection/THA / Shutterstock Gentile had appeared before the unnamed other judge on a private zoning matter, which the enforcement officer was a part of, the Times Union reported. 'It was kind of like … Kathleen Turner and William Hurt in 'Body Heat,' you know, because they were so … close in the court that they were finishing each other's sentences and stuff,' Gentile said of the other judge and the enforcement officer — comments picked up on his own court's recording device. The commission's report on the incident included a footnote that described Hurt and Turner's characters as being in 'a passionate affair' and involved in a 'plot to murder the latter's husband,' the outlet said. 3 The 1981 movie 'Body Heat' was steamy enough to earn an R rating for its series of raunchy sex scenes. Corbis via Getty Images Gentile's comments earned him a censure, or formal reprimand. 'It undermines the judicial obligation to be fair and impartial when a judge bases decisions on outside conversations to which one or more parties are not privy and cannot counter,' the commission said in its ruling. 'Nor does it enhance the integrity of the court for a judge to utter profanities on the bench or spread baseless gossip about other judges or public officials. The commission expects Judge Gentile to be more sensitive to these and his other judicial obligations going forward.' 3 Upstate Judge Philip Gentile admitted he made the off-color comments, state judicial officials said. New Africa – According to the judicial commission, Gentile 'has acknowledged that his conduct was improper and warrants public discipline.' The wisecrack comment wasn't the only thing that has gotten Gentile in trouble. Between November 2022 and March 2024, Gentile also spoke to a prosecutor in an assault case but refused to share the conversation with a defense lawyer, balked at modifying an order of protection after having a private conversation and 'uttered profanities in court,' the commission said. Gentile, who is not a lawyer — and is not required to be by local law — has served as a judge in Rossie since 2018. His current term runs out in December.
