Liberty Superstar Makes History Against Caitlin Clark-less Fever
The Indiana Fever faced the conference-leading New York Liberty on Wednesday, falling 98–77. They were without star guard Caitlin Clark, who missed her tenth game of the season due to her third injury this year.
Before this season, Clark had never missed a game in her college or professional career. However, her second WNBA season has been plagued by injuries, limiting her to 12 appearances, in which Indiana has gone 7-5.
Clark has averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists this season, which are slightly underwhelming numbers considering the impressive rookie year she had.

On the other hand, New York's superstar saw Wednesday's matchup as an opportunity to make history at Barclays Center.
Liberty forward Breanna Stewart led the charge, scoring 24 points on 66% shooting, adding 11 rebounds and seven assists. With this performance, Stewart, who's been in the league since 2016, now has the third most 20-point games in WNBA history.
Wednesday's victory marked New York's fifth 20-point victory of the season, extending their lead for the most such wins in the WNBA this year.
The Liberty won three straight and four out of their last five heading into the All-Star break, in which Stewart and guard Sabrina Ionescu will be representing them. They will face the Fever once again after the break on Tuesday, seeking their fourth consecutive victory in a relatively tight Eastern Conference.

Caitlin Clark still has no timetable for return following further medical evaluation this week
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark still has no time table to return, the team said Thursday following further medical tests this week. No further injuries were discovered during this week's evaluations. Clark has missed three games — including last weekend's WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis — since injuring her right groin July 15 against the Connecticut Sun. She traveled with her team to New York for their loss to the Liberty on Tuesday night. The Fever said Clark is continuing to work with team medical staff on her recovery and rehabilitation. Offensive lineman Sam Greer (Akron, OH/ Archbishop Hoban High School) has officially accepted his invitation to the 2026 Navy All-American Bowl. Having been selected to play in the twenty sixth edition of the Navy All-American Bowl, Greer will play in the annual East vs. West matchup on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. 49ers sign former Lions WR, release third-year RB
After trading Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders and losing Chris Conley to retirement this offseason, the San Francisco 49ers haven't had the best injury luck at wide receiver to start training camp. Second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall surprisingly started camp on the PUP with a hamstring injury that he's been dealing with since minicamp. Then, on Wednesday, 2024 fourth-round pick Jacob Cowing suffered a hamstring injury of his own just before their first training camp session of the year. Pearsall and Cowing join Brandon Aiyuk, who's recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season, as injured wideouts on San Francisco's roster. To give quarterback Brock Purdy another weapon to target in practice, the 49ers signed wide receiver Quintez Cephus on Thursday. Cephus, 27, played collegiately at Wisconsin from 2016-19 before the Detroit Lions took him in the fifth round (No. 166 overall) of the 2020 NFL draft. He spent three seasons in Detroit, catching 37 passes for 568 yards and four touchdowns in 22 games. Since then, he's had short stints with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams, but he hasn't played in a game since 2022. To make room for Cephus on the roster, San Francisco released running back Israel Abanikanda. The 22-year-old running back played at Pittsburgh from 2020-22, where he earned All-ACC and All-American honors in his final season.
