De'Aaron Fox agrees to massive $229 million extension with Spurs
Point guard De'Aaron Fox agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum extension with San Antonio on Monday afternoon, keeping him under contract through the 2029-30 season, according to ESPN.
The Spurs acquired the one-time All-Star and All-NBA selection from the Kings last season. He appeared in 17 games for his new team before being shut down for the season due to finger surgery.

Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists per game in his short time in a Spurs jersey before the injury.
Before being dealt to San Antonio, which was per his request, Fox averaged 25 points, 6.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game with the Kings.

4 Fox will be the co-star alongside Victor Wembanyama for years to come with his extension.

While the one-time All-Star played just five games with Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, the two are said to have developed a close relationship and will be the leaders of a young team looking to blossom into a contender.
The 27-year-old Fox will also be the leader of a young backcourt he'll share with Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper.

The former UConn Huskie Castle is coming off a Rookie of the Year season in which he averaged 14.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.
Harper was the No. 2 pick in June's NBA draft out of Rutgers, where he averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from deep.

While all three guards are naturally ball-dominant, the 6-foot-6 frames of Harper and Castle should provide flexibility alongside the 6-foot-3 Fox, which is certainly what San Antonio is banking on with Fox's extension.
Fox is entering his ninth NBA season and is just one of two players to average 20 points, five assists and a steal in each of the past six seasons, along with Luka Doncic.

Former Sixers big man Dwight Howard ranked No. 63 on all-time list
For one season in his Hall of Fame career, Dwight Howard was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. The 8-time All-Star served as the backup to Joel Embiid in the 2020-21 season and helped the Sixers earn the No. 1 seed in the East before falling to the Atlanta Hawks in the East semifinals. In his one season in Philadelphia, Howard averaged 7.0 points and 8.4 rebounds and nearly a block a game coming off the bench. He fully embraced his role as the team's backup center and was a positive player in the locker room day in and day out. He wasn't the dominant superstar he once was in his heyday, but Howard was certainly capable of producing. HoopsHype put together a ranking of the top 79 players in the history of the game with Howard was ranked No. 63 on the list: At one time, Dwight Howard was the best big man in the NBA, an era that lasted for multiple seasons during his time with the Magic. Howard was an awe-inspiring athlete for his size, who would often sky for rebounds, block shots or finish alley-oops. Like Gasol, Howard was another glaring omission from the NBA75 list despite being a Top 11 rebounder ever, ranking 15th all-time in blocks and having three Defensive Player of the Year awards. But that might have to do with him not being that well-liked by coaches and teammates during his time in the league. Howard was also a huge playoff performer, coming up big both when he was a star with the Magic (he impressively led them to the Finals in 2008-09) and as a role player with the Lakers, finally winning a title in 2019-20. Howard's one season with the Sixers wasn't particularly memorable, but it's clear that his impact on the game's history has been recognized. He is one of the best centers in NBA history and he should receive the respect he deserves as such.

Aaron Judge to return Tuesday for Yankees-Rangers
Aug. 5 (UPI) -- New York Yankees star Aaron Judge will be activated off the injured list and return to action Tuesday against the Texas Rangers, manager Aaron Boone announced. Judge was placed in the 10-day injured list July 27 due to a flexor strain he sustained in his right elbow. He missed the Yankees' last 10 games. The Yankees are 4-6 over that span and now sit in third place in the American League East, 5.5 games behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays and 2.5 games behind the rival Boston Red Sox. Judge hit an MLB-best .342 with 37 home runs and 85 RBIs over his first 103 games this season. The two-time American League MVP and seven-time All-Star also leads MLB in wins above replacement (WAR) at 6.6, total bases (268), on-base percentage (.449), slugging percentage (.711), OPS (1.160) and intentional walks (27). He is expected to take the roster spot of outfielder Austin Slater, who sustained a hamstring injury in an 8-5 loss to the Rangers on Monday in Arlington, Texas. The Yankees (60-53) will face the Rangers (59-55) in the second game of the series at 8:05 p.m. EDT Tuesday in Arlington.
