Child assault under false identity: Indian man commits suicide in US jail months after 35-year prison sentence, claim reports

Time of India2 days ago
Reports claimed Indian man Kurremula Sai Kumar who was sentenced to 35 years in prison for child sexual exploitation committed suicide in US jail.
A 31-year-old Indian man from Telangana died by suicide in a US federal prison, just four months into a 35-year sentence for sexually exploiting minors online, reports claimed. The sentence was given to Kurremula Sai Kumar in March this year.
He committed suicide on July 26. According to reports, Sai Kumar was found unresponsive in his cell after hanging himself. He was pronounced dead shortly after, but no other details regarding his death have been released. Reports claimed he was under mental distress after he was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The Telangana man moved to the United States a decade ago. When he was arrested, he was living in Oklahoma with his wife.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors and distribution of child pornography. He posed as a 15-year-old on social media to manipulate minor girls. He also made three minor victims send him sexually explicit material and later distributed those images.
According to the US Department of Justice, the FBI began investigating an account on Snapchat in 2023 based on a criminal complaint.

It was alleged that the user was sexually exploiting minor girls. "The Internet Protocol address used to create the account led federal authorities to Kurremula. Public documents and evidence at the sentencing hearing allege Kurremula had sexually exploited at least 19 minors through Snapchat, often posing as a 13- to 15-year-old boy to gain the trust of his victims.
When the victims refused his requests, Kurremula would manipulate, threaten, and extort his victims to produce even more child pornography," the DOJ said at the time of his sentence.
The threats included telling his minor victims that he would come to their house and shoot their family, and show their parents their sexually explicit images.
'This case serves as a clear warning to others that the strongest of penalties await those who exploit and victimize our children. I applaud the work done by federal prosecutors and law enforcement for stopping Kurremula from harming any other children and holding him accountable," US attorney Robert J Troester said.

Magadh moves on from Maoist strife after decades of bloodshed

Gaya: Barring isolated incidents such as the burning of road construction machinery and minor extortion demands, the Magadh region, once a stronghold of Maoist insurgents, has witnessed no major violence in recent years. The last significant attack occurred in 2021 on the Gaya-Aurangabad border when nearly a dozen CRPF commandos were killed in Maoist-triggered IED explosions. Four Maoists were also killed in the police's retaliatory operation. For nearly two decades, from the 1980s to the early 2000s, Maoists dominated much of the Magadh division. Govt officials in rural postings and contractors working on infrastructure projects were forced to pay hefty protection money. Almost all block-level officials abandoned their headquarters, living instead in Gaya city or sub-divisional towns such as Sherghati. That situation has now changed dramatically. The region's history is marked by some of the worst massacres in Bihar's insurgency years. In Dalel Chak Baghora (Aurangabad district), 55 men, women and children from a landowning caste were killed. In Bara (Gaya district) and Senari (Jehanabad district), 35 male adults were slain in each incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo In retaliation, the Ranvir Sena, a private militia of the Bhumihar community, massacred 55 people, mostly Dalits, in Laxmanpur Bathe (Arwal district) and 35 OBCs and Dalits in Miapur village (Aurangabad district). The Maoists also staged the high-profile Jehanabad jail break, freeing about 400 inmates, including veteran leader Ajai Kanu, and killing nearly a dozen prisoners suspected of being Ranvir Sena supporters. In another attack, they stormed Tekari police station in broad daylight, killing five policemen. Today, most of these areas are peaceful. Arun Kumar Prasad, a retired professor of philosophy, attributes the decline of Maoism to "a mix of administrative, ideological, social and economic factors". He said retaliation by the Ranvir Sena had a significant effect. "Maoists, operating on the principle of minimum risk, retreated when challenged through counter-violence," Prasad added. However, Masoom Aziz Kazmi, a retired IPS officer and former Aurangabad SP during the height of insurgency, said, "The Ranvir Sena was a factor, but not the main one. Improved police mobility due to better roads and an offensive policing strategy paid dividends." Observers also point to a change in political approach. "While the Lalu-Rabri govt appeared to treat Maoists with kid gloves, the Nitish govt adopted a more business-like and at times ruthlessapproach," said one. Anup Kedia, former head of the Central Bihar Chamber of Commerce, said the poor had grown disillusioned with the Maoist leadership. Whatever the reasons, the decline in Maoist activities in Magadh is now unmistakable. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). After 30+ years in UK, Indian man who built a life and family faces deportation; Emotional farewell video goes viral

A viral video claiming to show an Indian man being deported from the United Kingdom after living there for three decades has stirred strong reactions on social clip, first posted on TikTok by user Deepa Rangra Wala, shows the man being driven to the airport by friends. Text over the video reads: 'Deport after 30 years from UK.' In the footage, a man can be heard speaking Punjabi, saying: "It has been 30 years since he arrived in England. He never had the right papers to stay. Today they are deporting him. We are here to drop him to the airport ourselves. This is our last bit of time with our brother. He worked here for 30 years, got his family settled, but now he has to go back to India." The TikTok video was later shared on Instagram by UB1UB2: Southall, West London, with the caption: 'Poor lad.' Mixed Reactions from the Public The post quickly gained over 200,000 views, with people expressing everything from sympathy to commenter said it was 'quite upsetting but hope he lives a good life,' while another questioned the situation: 'After 33 years in the UK, he would not be deported unless criminal activity was involved.'Some wondered about his friendships, asking: 'Where are all the English people he made friends with during that time?' Others tried to remain optimistic: 'Hope he becomes a billionaire in India.'Many social media users criticised the alleged deportation. One wrote: 'He should have been granted citizenship; he lived in the country for 30 years.' Another accused the UK of double standards: 'Deporting working class so they can get people that claim benefits, typical UK style.' While the exact details of the man's immigration status remain unclear, the video has reignited discussions about long-term migrants, citizenship rights, and the complexities of immigration law.

Bankipur ERO sends notice to Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha over alleged dual EPIC IDs

Bankipur's Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on Sunday issued a notice to Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha over allegations that he holds two different EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers. Sinha has been asked to submit his response by 5 pm on Sunday, 14 August. The move came hours after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav claimed at a press conference that Sinha's name appears on two separate voter lists, one in Lakhisarai and another in Bankipur, with different ages and addresses. According to him, the Bankipur record lists Sinha's age as 60, while the Lakhisarai list puts it at 57. He provided the EPIC numbers as IAF3939337 for Lakhisarai and AFS0853341 for Bankipur. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Undo Yadav alleged that Sinha signed documents for both constituencies during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, which resulted in his name appearing in two places. Calling it 'fraud in the voter card as well as in the age,' the RJD leader demanded that an FIR be filed against the Deputy CM. He also accused the Election Commission's SIR exercise in Bihar of being flawed if such duplication could occur. Live Events The controversy follows a separate dispute between Tejashwi Yadav and the Patna ERO, who earlier asked him to submit details of an EPIC card he mentioned during his 2 August press conference. Yadav said he only received the notice on 7 August and had replied the next day, but accused the media of conducting a 'trial' before he could formally respond. 'Now my question is, will the Election Commission send a notice to the Patna and Lakhisarai district administrations regarding the Deputy CM? If action can be taken against us, why not against him?' Yadav asked, accusing the BJP of 'destroying democracy and the Constitution.' On Wednesday, the Patna ERO again reminded Yadav to submit the EPIC details, saying the requested documents had still not been provided. The row originally began when Yadav claimed his own name was missing from the draft voter list released on 1 August, and later alleged that his EPIC number had been changed. Inputs from agencies
