ED likely to ask ACB to share info on Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme irregularities

HYDERABAD: Even as the ACB sleuths conducted searches at the residences of retired Irrigation engineer-in-chief C Muralidhar Rao and his relatives for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) reportedly focused its attention on corrupt engineers involved in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.
The sources said the ED is likely to seek details from the ACB on the Kaleshwaram irregularities, including allegations of diverting government funds as investments into personal companies and organising destination weddings abroad.
The ED is also focusing on the allegations that ENC Muralidhar Rao reportedly parked the corrupt money in his son Abhishek Rao's companies. The ED is also likely to probe the destination marriage of Irrigation executive engineer N Sridhar's son conducted in Thailand. Sridhar was recently trapped by the ACB. The ED will not only investigate the corruption by irrigation engineers but also their financial transactions, according to sources.
The ED, according to sources, is planning to seek detailed information from the ACB on corruption cases involving C Muralidhar, N Sridhar and others.
Meanwhile, ACB officials said that they conducted searches at the residence of Muralidhar in Hyderabad for the second day. They also conducted searches at residences of Muralidhar's relatives in Warangal and Karimnagar.

Tribal Welfare Engineer-in-Chief nabbed taking ₹25 lakh bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Tribal Welfare Department Engineer-in-Chief, Sabbavarapu Srinivas, while he was allegedly accepting ₹25 lakh bribe from a contractor. When the contractor expressed his inability to pay the huge amount, the accused asked him to pay an initial amount of ₹25 lakh. Acting on the complaint, the ACB Vijayawada Range officers caught the engineer red-handed at his office, while he was accepting the bribe amount. In 2001, ACB officials had registered a disproportionate assets case against Srinivas and he was facing trial in a trap case booked in 2014. BJP not opposed to political quota to Muslims in education, jobs: Ramchander Rao

The BJP is not against Muslims and has no objection to providing them reservations in education and employment opportunities. However, granting political reservations to Muslims harms the Backward Classes (BCs) while the 4% reservation currently given to Muslims is also under legal scrutiny in courts, said Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday. 'We are only opposed to the 10% Muslim reservation that the Congress is proposing,' he said, and pointed out that in the last GHMC elections, 50 divisions were reserved for BCs, but MIM candidates — who are Muslims — won 35 of those seats. 'This was a grave injustice to the BC community,' he said, addressing cadre and leaders at several meetings during his ongoing Jangoan district tour. He demanded the Congress Government to pass the reservation bill in the Assembly and immediately issue a notification for local body elections, ensuring 42% reservation for BCs. Congress protest in Delhi was a complete flop with none of the top leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi attending it. 'Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy himself admitted that the quota would be implemented only if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister — which will not happen,' he remarked and said the Delhi protest was not genuinely about BCs rights but was aimed at pushing for a Muslim quota. Mr. Rao also criticised the Congress government's handling of the Musi River pollution, which he said has severely impacted farmers in Bhongir. He recalled that Mr. Revanth Reddy had promised to clean the river during his birthday visit to the Yadadri temple, but has since forgotten the commitment — a pattern he described as typical of the Congress. The BJP chief also accused the government of 'avoiding' handing over Kaleshwaram project and other scams of the BRS regime to the CBI. 'If Congress truly had integrity, they would revoke the GO that bans CBI entry—issued during the BRS regime. Then, the CBI could recover the misappropriated funds in the Kaleshwaram case and deposit them into the government treasury. It could also jail ministers and political leaders involved in the phone tapping case,' he added.

National Herald case: Court defers inspection of documents

Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) A Delhi court on Thursday deferred the inspection of files in the National Herald case to August 18 and 19. On July 29, special judge Vishal Gogne deferred the order on taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saying further inspection of the case files was required and that the investigating officer (IO) had to appear with the same on August 7 and 8. The court on Thursday said, 'The matter could not be taken up today on account of lengthy arguments on charge in the matter titled CBI v. Lalu Prasad Yadav and others (land-for-jobs-case) and inspection of case diaries in another matter titled CBI v. Lalu Prasad Yadav and others (case linked to alleged irregularities in the IRCTC) in the afternoon session." It said the matter regarding the land-for-jobs case was again listed for submissions on charge on August 8. 'Hence, the present matter shall be taken up for further inspection of the case file on August 18 and 19. The earlier date given for August 8 is cancelled," the judge said. The court is hearing the submissions on the point of cognisance by the ED and the accused on a day-to-day basis from July 2. The ED has accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, late party leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes, as well as Suman Dubey, Sam Pitroda and a private company, Young Indian, of conspiracy and money laundering over the alleged fraudulent takeover of Rs 2,000 crore worth properties belonging to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which published the National Herald newspaper. The agency alleges that the Gandhis held the majority 76 per cent shares in Young Indian, which allegedly fraudulently usurped the assets of AJL in exchange for a Rs 90 crore loan. The chargesheet names Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Pitroda, Dubey, Sunil Bhandari, Young Indian and Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd.
