Gaza's Zeitoun neighborhood under 'Israeli' assault for fifth consecutive day

Roya News2 days ago
The ''Israeli'' army confirmed on Friday that it has been conducting military operations for several days in the Zeitoun neighborhood on the outskirts of Gaza City.
According to the army, the operations aim to locate explosives, eliminate what it described as "armed militants," and destroy military infrastructure both above and below ground.
In a statement on Telegram, the army said its forces targeted and dismantled a booby-trapped building used to store weapons. Militants fired an anti-tank missile at 'Israeli' troops, but no soldiers were injured. The 'Israeli' Air Force also carried out airstrikes in coordination with ground forces, allegedly targeting military sites and militants in the area.
The army stated it would continue operations in Gaza to "eliminate any threat against settlers," according to its claims.
Over the past three days, the 'Israeli' military has demolished more than 300 homes in Zeitoun as part of its ongoing occupation plan. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, said the army has deliberately targeted civilian residential areas, particularly buildings with five floors or more. Due to the explosives used, surrounding structures have also been destroyed.
The neighborhood has been under a wide-scale 'Israeli' assault for the fifth consecutive day, including air and artillery strikes, home demolitions, and nightly bombing campaigns.
The attacks have reportedly killed dozens of civilians, including women, children, and entire families who remained in their homes at the time of the strikes, without prior warning.
The military operation in Zeitoun involves intermittent ground advances and frequent troop repositioning.
Some multi-story buildings have been flattened while civilians were still inside. Large numbers of residents have fled to central and western parts of Gaza City, while others remain trapped in dangerous areas that are difficult for medical and civil defense teams to access due to the intensity of the bombardment.

"Palestinians need a Nakba every now and then," says ex-'Israeli' intelligence chief

Aharon Haliva, the former head of 'Israel's' military intelligence who stepped down after the events of October 7, 2023, has been heard defending mass Palestinian deaths in Gaza as both 'necessary' and 'required for future generations.' In audio recordings aired Friday on Ulpan Shishi, a flagship news program on 'Israel's' Channel 12, Haliva said, 'The fact that there are already 50,000 dead in Gaza is necessary and required for future generations.' He also argued that for each 'Israeli' killed on October 7, 50 Palestinians must die in response. 'There's no choice, they need a Nakba every now and then to feel the consequences,' Haliva added, referencing the mass displacement and killings of Palestinians during the creation of 'Israel' in 1948. He claimed his remarks were not driven by revenge but rather as 'a message for future generations,' describing Gaza as a 'disturbed neighbourhood.' - Military failures and the Hannibal directive - Haliva resigned from his post in 2024 after admitting responsibility for failing to anticipate Hamas' operation in southern 'Israel', which killed at least 1,195 people, according to the 'Israeli' army. Reports in Haaretz revealed that during the chaos of that day, 'Israel' invoked the controversial 'Hannibal directive,' a military procedure that authorizes lethal force to prevent the capture of 'Israeli' soldiers, even at the risk of killing them. - "Hamas is good for Israel" - The recordings also touched on 'Israeli' strategy toward the Palestinians. Haliva suggested that 'Israel' had deliberately fostered instability in the West Bank to ensure Hamas, rather than the Palestinian Authority (PA), would gain influence, thereby undermining prospects for a two-state solution. He alleged that after 'Israel's' 2014 war on Gaza, a blueprint to dismantle Hamas was drawn up but never carried out. 'Hamas is good for Israel, that's [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich's argument,' Haliva said, claiming that Smotrich advocates weakening the PA to let Hamas take over in the West Bank, as it did in Gaza. 'Why? Because if the entire Palestinian arena is destabilised and crazy, it is impossible to negotiate with,' he continued. 'Then there will be no agreement [on a Palestinian state].' Haliva stressed that the PA has international legitimacy that restricts 'Israel's' ability to act freely, whereas Hamas does not. 'Hamas is an organisation that you can fight freely, it has no international justification, it has no legitimacy, you can fight it with a sword,' he said.

Las Vegas police arrest 'Israeli' cybersecurity official in pedophilia investigation

An 'Israeli' cybersecurity executive has been arrested in the United States on suspicion of involvement in online child exploitation, according to reports in 'Israel' and Nevada. Yedioth Ahronoth, an 'Israeli' news outlet, identified the official as 38-year-old Tom Alexandrovich, a senior figure within the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD). He was taken into custody by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department while attending an international cyber conference on behalf of the directorate last week. Police in Las Vegas said Alexandrovich was one of eight individuals arrested in a recent sting operation. 'A multi-agency operation targeting child sex predators [which] led to the arrest of eight individuals over the past two weeks,' the department confirmed in a statement. Authorities added that the suspects 'face felony charges of Luring a Child with Computer for Sex Act.' Court filings cited by Yedioth Ahronoth allege that Alexandrovich attempted to 'seduce a mentally ill child using computer technology to have sex.' He appeared before a judge in Nevada and was later released on USD 10,000 bail. The cyber directorate, which operates under the 'Israeli' Prime Minister's Office, initially downplayed the incident, saying, 'The employee informed the Directorate that during his trip to the United States he was questioned by the US authorities on matters not related to work matters, and returned to Israel on the scheduled date of return. The Directorate has not yet received additional details through the authorised channels. If it receives, the Directorate will act accordingly. At this stage, in a joint decision, the employee went on leave to deal with the matter until things will become clear.' However, Las Vegas police records contradict this version, confirming that Alexandrovich had indeed been arrested. The INCD later clarified that it had 'not been involved in any matter related to the bail.' In 'Israel', police declined to confirm whether they would investigate upon Alexandrovich's return. 'As a rule, any complaint or information that raises suspicion of committing a criminal offence is examined by the police, and where there is a reasonable basis for suspicion that a criminal offence has been committed, an investigation is opened in accordance with each case and its circumstances,' a spokesperson said. The arrest comes amid growing scrutiny of senior 'Israeli' officials. Just weeks earlier, 'Israel's' ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yossi Shelley, was recalled after Emirati officials accused him of inappropriate conduct. Shelley, a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was alleged to have made repeated comments about prostitutes and to have engaged in behavior that Emirati authorities deemed unacceptable. A senior 'Israeli' diplomat told Channel 12 that Shelley frequently discussed sex workers with colleagues and once clashed with security staff in Abu Dhabi. 'The subject he talks about all the time in an exaggerated way is prostitutes,' the official said. 'That's what he tells everyone about, that's what he likes to talk about the most.' According to the report, Shelley visited 'dubious places' during his posting and reacted angrily when local officials attempted to intervene, allegedly shouting at security guards, 'You won't lock me up.'
