Blumhouse in Talks to Buy "Saw" Franchise from Twisted Pictures
Blumhouse is in talks to acquire part of the long-running horror franchise 'Saw'.
Blumhouse is in the midst of a deal to take over the ownership stake of Saw from Twisted Pictures, the banner run by Oren Koules and Mark Burg. Twisted co-owns the rights with Lionsgate, which has distributed the films since releasing the first film in 2004.
If a deal is made, it would bring the franchise back into the hands of James Wan, the filmmaker who directed that movie and created the franchise with co-writer Leigh Whannell.
Blumhouse, run by Jason Blum, merged with Wan's production banner, Atomic Monster, in early January 2024.
The talks between Blumhouse and Twisted began last year but broke down earlier this year.
A sale price was one of the big sticking points.
Made for only $1.2 million, Saw became one of the most profitable horror movies of all time when it opened to $18.2 million domestically and earned $104 million worldwide.
Home entertainment was equally massive (this was the DVD era, after all) and a franchise, that encompassed 10 movies as well as merchandising, video games, and more, followed.
The last entry in the franchise, 'Saw X' was released in 2023 and earned $112.2 million worldwide. An 11th movie was in the works but stalled out.
While it is unclear what the plans for any new stories would entail — more movies? a series? — but the deal is the latest in a growing number that have creatives or filmmakers own, partially or entirely, their creations.
Koules and Burg reportedly financed most of Saw's budget after first seeing Wan and Whannel's short film. Wan, off the success of Saw, went on to create or co-create the Insidious horror franchise and The Conjuring horror universe.

Prime Minister Follows Up on Preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum Opening Ceremony
Ali abo deshish Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, chaired a meeting today at the Government Headquarters in New Alamein City to follow up on preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum's opening ceremony, scheduled for November 1. Ambassador Yasser Shaaban reviewed the status of the invitations extended to world leaders for this unique event, confirming that invitations had been sent to various countries and that Egyptian ambassadors abroad are following up to secure the attendance of the largest possible number of heads of state. The list of prominent public figures invited to the ceremony was also presented. Mr. Mohamed El-Saadi outlined key aspects of the preparations for the ceremony, detailing ongoing arrangements for the main event and providing a summary of its program, along with the accompanying activities. He also addressed the expected media coverage, noting strong interest from leading global media outlets in covering the ceremony. Pedro Pascal Eyeing Tony Gilroy's Next Movie "Behemoth!"
Yara Sameh Following a busy 2025 that included an Emmy nominated performance and a Marvel Studios movie, Pedro Pascal isn't looking to slow down as he is in talks to star in writer-director Tony Gilroy's next movie "Behemoth!". Searchlight Pictures recently came on to the project which Gilroy will write and direct. Plot details are under wraps at the time but Gilroy has said in interviews that the film revolves around a cellist. Gilroy would also produce with Sanne Wohlenberg. The movie is set to begin principal photography this fall in Los Angeles, with release plans to be announced at a later date. Pascal is coming off a hugely successful summer, with A24 and Celine Song's "Materialists," A24 and Ari Aster's "Eddington" and Marvel's "Fantastic Four: First Steps." All three projects premiered to widespread critical acclaim, with "Materialists" being A24's third highest grossing opening ever, and "Fantastic Four: First Steps" being Marvel's highest grossing opening of 2025. "Fantastic Four: First Steps" kicked off the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal recently wrapped production on the next Avengers movie, "Avengers: Doomsday," which will premiere in 2026. Also in 2026. He will also reprise his role as Din Djarin in "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu." On the TV side, Pascal most recently earned a Lead Actor Emmy nomination for his performance in season two of HBO's "The Last of Us". He garnered Lead Actor Emmy and Golden Globe Award nominations and won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in season 1.
