Kevin Quiambao talks about his NBA dream and recent US training
In an exclusive interview with 24 Oras' 'Game Changer' host and sportscaster Martin Javier, Quiambao said he has been in the United States since July 2 and had training sessions in Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
"It's been a long journey for us -- a tiring journey," the reigning UAAP back-to-back Most Valuable Player said.
"Ayun nga, para sa pangarap ko is gagawin ko ang best ko, whatever it takes."
Quiambao added he will still have sessions with some local trainers but said he is not expecting a spot anymore in the NBA Summer League teams.
"I'm trying to be a sponge lang in the next few days kasi ilang days na lang ako rito. Kung ano pa kaya ko ma-learn is i-soak in ko na lang sa sarili ko and dalhin ko sa Pilipinas and Korea mga natutunan ko rito," he added.
While in the US, Quiambao confirmed that he had a private workout with NBA players.
"It's a privilege for me na makapaglaro with NBA players, with Vic Oladipo, and some two-way players ng NBA.
"It's been a pleasure for me. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience and hopefully this is not the last."
"Kailangan ko mag-work hard for me and put my trust in myself lang palagi na kaya kong maabot 'yung NBA mentally and personally na kaya ko gawin lahat," he added.
The grind then continues for KQ.
"Tuloy-tuloy lang, for the love of the game. Para sa country natin, I'm trying to aim na maging first Filipino na full-blooded na makapasok sa NBA. Nothing is impossible naman."
For now, Quiambao said he will join Gilas Pilipinas for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup.
"Darating naman ako doon the day before the training camp will start. Gagawin ko lahat for the country," he said.

Pacquiao, Barrios expect pleasantries to end quickly in Vegas
Nearly four years after his last professional fight, boxing legend Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring on Saturday night, where he will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in a title bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The beloved fighter, 46, known to many as "PacMan" is giving up four inches in reach (71 inches vs. 67 inches), more than six inches in height (6-foot to 5-foot-5-1/2) and more than 16 years in age to Barrios, who will defend his belt for the second time. Pacquiao (62-8-2) already holds the record for most titles. A win Saturday would extend his mark to 13 across eight weight classes. While preparing for the fight, Pacquiao has said he has retained his passion for the sport and the hunger to be a champion once again. "I'm still active in terms of exercise, training like (a boxer). The fans might be worried about my condition, but that's what I need to prove," the Filipino fighter said at a press conference Wednesday. Pacquiao lost his last pro fight in a unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas on Aug. 21, 2021. His most recent pro win came six years ago this Sunday against Keith Thurman in the same arena where he'll fight Saturday. In the interim, Pacquiao has fought in two exhibition matches. The last took place on July 28, 2024. It was a three-round bout against Japanese MMA fighter Rukiya Anpo. With no judges scoring, the match was ruled a draw as neither fighter delivered a knockout. Pacquiao fought at 152 pounds in the fight. The welterweight class goes up to 147. The former Philippine senator, who fell short in a May election to return to office, is no stranger to Vegas. He's fought there 22 times over the past 24 years. Wednesday's press conference was cordial between the camps, but Barrios (29-2-1) said the pleasantries will end once the two enter the ring. "I can't think of anything bad to say about him, other than he's facing me for my title," the Mexican-American fighter told reporters. "It's all smiles right now. It has been during this whole lead-up, but come fight night, you know that smile, it's not going to be on his face anymore, and neither will mine." There will be scores of fans hoping that Pacquiao can reclaim his magic once more. However, it's Barrios, who fought Abel Ramos to a draw last November to keep the belt, who comes into the match as a heavy favorite. Report: Deal being finalized to return Damian Lillard to Trail Blazers
Nine-time All-Star Damian Lillard is finalizing a three-year, $42 million contract to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, ESPN reported on Thursday. Per ESPN, Lillard now will receive a salary of $70 million between his existing deal with the Milwaukee Bucks and his new contract with the Trail Blazers. He also will have a player-option in 2027 and a no-trade clause in a deal that returns Lillard to the franchise with which he spent his first 11 NBA seasons. Lillard, who turned 35 on Tuesday, saw his season come to an abrupt end on April 27 after an excruciating torn left Achilles tendon knocked him out of the rest of the playoffs. He is expected to miss the 2025-26 season. Lillard was hurt in the first quarter of the Bucks' 129-103 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round series in just his third game back after dealing with a blood clot in his right calf. He missed the final 14 games of the regular season and the first contest of the playoff series against the Pacers. Lillard requested a trade out of Portland in the summer of 20xx and the team obliged. The Trail Blazers were entering a transition into a rebuild and Lillard wanted to go to a team in which he could compete for a championship. Lillard averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 58 regular-season games during his second season with the Bucks. He was waived by Milwaukee on July 7. Lillard owns career averages of 25.1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 900 regular-season contests. NBA Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander beat out Shohei Ohtani, Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley for Best Male Athlete. But Barkley ended the night with three trophies, including the one for Best NFL Player. His Philadelphia Eagles were honored with the Best Team award, and the running back also won Best Play for his backwards hurdle of a Jacksonville Jaguars defender last fall. Comedian Shane Gillis hosted the program and delivered an uneven monologue that left him wishing he could take back certain jokes. Cracks at President Donald Trump, Aaron Rodgers and Bill Belichick's girlfriend got laughs, but he was caught mispronouncing Diana Taurasi's name and got an uncomfortable reaction for a line about Caitlin Clark's treatment in the WNBA. Her personality and messages about body positivity helped vault her into the national consciousness, and she appeared on "Dancing with the Stars," finishing runner-up. She became the first rugby player to win an ESPY. And Biles' teammate, Suni Lee, won Best Comeback Athlete for overcoming two rare kidney diseases and winning three medals in Paris. NBA legend Oscar Robertson was recognized with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage for his work as the NBA Players Association president to establish free agency in the 1970s. Penn State volleyball coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, a cancer survivor, received the Jimmy V Award in memory of the late basketball coach Jim Valvano.
