Policeman stabbed during crime patrol at Pudu market, suspect arrested
Acting City police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the incident occurred at about 12.55pm when the victim, along with four other officers, was inspecting a suspect at Jalan Yew, Pudu.
"The suspect suddenly attacked the officer with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing the scene," he said in a statement today.
He added that the wounded officer was immediately rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM for emergency treatment.
"Acting swiftly on the information received, police managed to apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident," Usuf said.
"The suspect, a 56-year-old man, was detained to assist with further investigation."
A subsequent search revealed a knife measuring approximately 21.5cm and three transparent plastic packets containing yellowish powder and chunks, suspected to be drugs, believed to be linked to the incident.
Usuf said the case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 186 of the Penal Code. Section 307 covers attempted murder, while Section 186 pertains to obstructing a public servant from carrying out duties.
"The suspect will be remanded beginning Aug 1 to assist further investigations," he said.
"We also urge members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward immediately."

Four teens freed on bail in Kajang assault case

Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said.
