Jaguars' Rookie Wyatt Milum Could Be Answer to Offensive Line Struggles

The Jacksonville Jaguars have an issue or two that needs worked out on the offensive side of the ball.

Last season, the Jaguars finished their season 25th in the NFL in yards per game offensively, managing just 306.2 yards per game offensively. A large part of the criticism for that has fallen on the team's offensive line, which might be why the team selected two players in the NFL Draft to join that position room.

One of those players, former West Virginia Mountaineers offensive tackle Wyatt Milum, could end up being a big difference maker in the trenches for the Jaguars this season.
"He's a big dude...the way the guy plays, the toughness," Jaguars' Head Coach Liam Coen said during the team's minicamp sessions. "He's rooted in that. That's kind of what he prides himself on being, and that's what he is kind of known for around that building is being a guy that finishes, that plays the game the right way, that approaches it the right way.'

Milum was a stud for the Mountaineers -- he started 43 games for WVU football over his four-year career, and his senior season saw him become the 14th player in program history to be named a Consensus All-American. He was also named the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2024.
Milum is particularly adept at protecting his signal caller -- he allowed zero sacks over his final two collegiate seasons, and as a senior he also allowed zero quarterback hurries and only gave up seven quarterback pressures. That's good news for Jaguars' quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has struggled with injuries the past two seasons and is feeling pressure to have a big season. For Milum, the Jaguars' 32 sacks allowed in 2024 was about 32 too many.
'That's our motto...we don't want anyone touching the quarterback,' Milum said during minicamp. 'I feel like that's our identity as our offensive line at this point.'
Despite his massive 6-foot-6 frame, the Kenova, W.Va native has been moved from tackle to guard by the Jaguars, with his shorter wingspan and quickness viewed as potential weaknesses at tackle. But Milum, who helped the Mountaineers average 210 rushing yards per game during his final two seasons with the program, has been receptive to the change.

'Wherever they want to put me, I'm willing, as long as it gets me on the field,' he said. 'If I'm succeeding, that's all that matters to me. Anywhere is good with me.'
Perhaps the easiest place to look to see Milum's potential entering his rookie season is in Pittsburgh -- Milum's former teammate Zach Frazier was selected by the Steelers on Day Two of the 2024 NFL Draft, and slid into the starting rotation as a rookie. By the end of the season, he had started 14 games, was named to the PFWA All-NFL Rookie Team, and was given the Joe Green Great Performance Award as the top rookie for the Steelers.
If Milum can mimic his former teammate and fellow native West Virginian's efforts this season, it could be good news for the Jaguars.

Senegal women's basketball team members denied US visas, prime minister says
The Senegalese women's basketball team has scrapped plans to train in the U.S. for the upcoming AfroBasket tournament in the Ivory Coast next month after several players and team officials had their visas denied, Senegal's prime minister said. Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko said Thursday on Facebook that the team would train in Senegal's capital, Dakar, 'in a sovereign and conducive setting.' The West African nation's federation said in a statement that the visa applications of five players and seven officials weren't approved. 'Informed of the refusal of issuing visas to several members of the Senegal women's national basketball team, I have instructed the Ministry of Sports to simply cancel the 10-day preparatory training initially planned in the United States of America,' Sonko said. The visa denials come amid a push by the Trump administration to have countries improve vetting travelers or face a ban on their citizens visiting the United States. Senegal wasn't on that list of countries and it was not immediately clear why the visas were denied. A State Department spokesperson told The Associated Press the department could not comment on individual cases because visa records are confidential under American law. The travel ban includes exemptions for the World Cup, the Olympics and any 'other major sporting event,' though it's unclear what is considered a major event. The team is coached by Otis Hughley Jr., who previously led the Nigerian women's basketball team. He was the men's coach at Alabama A&M before resigning in March. Senegal, which was going to train in the U.S. from Sunday through July 3, has finished either first or second in four of the last five AfroBasket championships over the last decade and has won 11 titles in total. The tournament determines Africa's champion, which earns entry into the FIBA World Cup next year in Germany.

Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh
Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard the news that 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers, will suit up for the Pittsburgh Steelers next season. Advertisement It was a long and arduous process, but Rodgers finally agreed to a one-year, $13.65 million contract with $10 million guaranteed. One Steelers legend, four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion linebacker Joey Porter Sr., couldn't be happier that Rodgers is in town. 'Man, me being honest, I was excited,' Porter said. 'I got to play against Aaron Rodgers and watch Aaron Rodgers do his thing. I feel like he got a lot of juice left in the arm. … He's not a guy that is going to go out there and trick it off. He ain't going to put us in bad situations. We ain't asking him to save us — we ask him not to lose the four games that we lose every year that we're not supposed to lose.' Porter Sr. outlined his experience playing against Rodgers on the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast. Advertisement The question, though, is, which version of Rodgers will the Steelers get? Porter Sr. played against the Rodgers who was winning league MVPs and throwing for 40 touchdowns each season. That's not the player who took the field last year for the New York Jets. Rodgers, who turns 42 in December, led the Jets to a 5-12 mark in his only full season in New York. Don't forget (Jets fans won't) that he missed all but four plays of the 2023 campaign after rupturing his Achilles on the first drive of the first game after joining the team two offseasons ago. Last season should be one to forget for Rodgers. He finished below the league average in passer rating - a stat of which he's the all-time career leader, and 31st in the league in QBR - behind names like Aidan O'Connell and Kirk Cousins. Advertisement His five wins last season are his lowest win total since 2017, when he played just seven games for Green Bay and posted a 4-3 mark. Rodgers' previous low win total was six, which he posted three times since taking over as the Packers' starting quarterback in 2008. Which Rodgers will Pittsburgh get in 2025? It shouldn't take long to find out. Related: Analyst Thinks T.J. Steelers Rookie QB Describes 'Good Vibe' with Aaron Rodgers
Steelers Rookie QB Describes 'Good Vibe' with Aaron Rodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft without knowing what their ultimate fate with Aaron Rodgers would be. Advertisement Rodgers has now signed on for one season, and will be the team's starting quarterback next year, with Mason Rudolph and possibly Howard playing behind him. There's no quarterback competition, except maybe for who plays first if something happens to the 10-time Pro Bowler, but Howard says he's learned a lot from the 20-year veteran signal caller. 'He's been so awesome to me so far,' Howard said. 'Obviously we've only gotten to be together for about three days, but I got a really good feeling about him and about this whole QB room. I think we already in this past week meshed really well, hit it off. I think we got a good vibe, good group. Aaron has been so willing to help me. He's like, 'Literally, as much or as little as you want me to help you, I'll be there.' He's already given me tips, little things here and there — in the meeting room, on the field, in my drops, different little things. "Obviously I can't do the things that he can do mechanically, so I don't want to replicate that too much because that's pretty unique. But, for the most part, everything I can learn from that guy is invaluable. So I'm like as much as you want to pour into me.' Advertisement Rodgers enters his 21st season in the NFL in 2025. Howard was just three years old when the former Green Bay Packers quarterback was drafted, and there's no question that experience can mean a lot to a rookie quarterback. If Rodgers is willing to give it. Related: Ex Steelers LB 'Excited' Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh Related: Analyst Thinks T.J.
