Popular U.K. dramedy 'Doc Martin' is coming stateside. Fox has given a series order to 'Best Medicine,' a one-hour comedy series starring Josh Charles as doctor Martin Best, which will debut during the 2025-2026 season.
Per the official series description, Martin is 'a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin's blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he's all they've got. Although Martin can expertly address any medical ailment or mystery in this idiosyncratic town, he's really just desperate to be left the hell alone. Instead, he keeps getting dragged right smack into the middle of their personal chaos, feuds and fantasies. What the locals don't know is that Martin's terse demeanor masks a debilitating new phobia and deep-seated psychological issues that prevent him from experiencing true intimacy with anyone. But tenacity is the creed of everyone in their small village, and the people who live there may be exactly what the doctor ordered.'

'Best Medicine' is executive produced by Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite. In the U.K., 'Doc Martin' was produced by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions. The format, from All3Media International, was brought to the U.S. by Propagate Content.
'The story of Doc Martin has resonated worldwide with its humanity, originality and humor, and with 'Best Medicine' coming to FOX, that eccentricity gets a smalltown America spin, complete with idyllic charm and absurdity,' said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. 'Liz, Mark, Philippa, Ben and Rodney have done a terrific job adapting this signature character for the Fox audience, especially in casting the terrifically talented Josh Charles as our lead.'
'The entire Propagate team is thrilled to be working with Fox Entertainment on this extraordinary adaptation by Liz Tuccillo of the global hit Doc Martin,' said Silverman. 'Josh Charles is the perfect lead for this brilliantly character-driven comedic procedural. 'Best Medicine' is a world we'll all want to be part of.'
News of 'Best Medicine' comes ahead of Fox's upfront presentation to ad buyers in New York next week. Deadline was first to report on the greenlight.

‘How to Train Your Dragon' Star Nico Parker Says ‘I Just Don't Care' That People Are Upset Over Her Casting: ‘I Can't Value Your Opinion on My Hair'

Nico Parker is paying no mind to those who are upset about her casting in the live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon.' In a recent interview with The Times of London, Parker addressed the online backlash surrounding her casting as the young dragon butt kicker Astrid. Some were upset that Parker doesn't have blonde hair and blue eyes like the character in the original animated 'How to Train Your Dragon.' However, the 20-year-old British actress explained that she does not let those comments get to her head. 'But for the people that just hate inclusivity, hate change — when it comes to that side of things, I just don't care.' She continued, 'If I wouldn't value your opinion on most things in life, I can't value your opinion on my hair. If I did, I would go mad.' Parker comes from a family of filmmakers. Her father is director Ol Parker and her mother is actress Thandiwe Newton. She added that when she was younger, the representation in Hollywood of 'mixed race or Black icons' was 'really minimal,' but thinks it's 'really special' to see how far the industry has come. 'There's still a long way to go — for women in general, in terms of new parts, original material and female-led stories,' Parker added. 'But I think that everything's changing. I'd like to think that I could contribute to that change at some point.' The original 'How to Train Your Dragon,' loosely adapted from the 2003 children's book by Cressida Cowell, was released in 2010 and went on to gross a massive $495 million worldwide. Leading cast members included Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler and America Ferrera. In his review for the new live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon,' which hits theaters June 13, Variety film critic Peter Debruge praised Parker's performance, writing, 'The swaggering Astrid was always the film's most self-reliant character, and in Parker's hands, the romance between her and Hiccup takes on Clark Kent-Lois Lane vibes, especially when the two hit the skies.' Chris Evans Says It's ‘Sad' Not to Be ‘Invited to the Party' For ‘Avengers: Doomsday': ‘It's Going to Be Much Harder When It Comes Out'

Chris Evans is bummed he is missing out on all the fun in 'Avengers: Doomsday.' In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Evans, who played Captain America across eight MCU films, was asked if he still stays in contact with his former Marvel collaborators, considering his exclusion from the highly anticipated 'Avengers: Doomsday.' Evans confirmed that they all keep in touch, but added it feels different having exited the franchise in 'Avengers: Endgame.' 'It's where Pedro [Pascal] is right now. I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party.' In 'End Game,' Evans' Captain America ages out of the star-spangled shield after traveling back in time to return the Infinity Stones. He decides to stay in the past with his true love, Peggy Carter, and in the present day, passes the Captain America moniker to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. While Evans is staying behind, his 'Avengers' co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. are returning for 'Doomsday.' Hemsworth will return as Thor, but Downey will come back as the titular super villain Doctor Doom, instead of Iron Man. Other familiar MCU faces returning for 'Doomsday' include Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier; Paul Rudd as Ant-Man; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; Letitia Wright as Shuri and Mackie as Captain America. While originally set for release on May 1, 2026, 'Doomsday' was recently delayed to Dec. 18, 2026. Its sequel, 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' was also pushed. First slated to premiere on May 7, 2027, the film will now hit theaters Dec. 17, 2027. Comedian Jefferies set to host new FOX show before tour stops in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new show on FOX is putting master manipulators to the test. 'The Snake' will feature 15 contestants leveraging their unique skills and relying on their powers of persuasion. Throughout the game, a 'snake' will be chosen to juggle the fate of their fellow competitors, all while trying to compete for the grand prize of $100,000. Kev Herrera Brings His Raw and Relatable Comedy to Blue Note Hawaii World-famous comedian and show host Jim Jefferies tells us 'The Snake' will have a familiar 'survival of the fittest' theme, but with a twist. 'There's no backstabbing you in this game, people are stabbing you in your front,' Jefferies said. 'What makes this show different from other shows is once you win the challenge, you get to become the snake, you get a snake medallion, the most coveted character in the game, and then we have a saving ceremony, not an elimination ceremony where the snake decides who they're going to save first. Then that person decides to save another person, and that person decides to save another person until we get down to the final two players, and the snake decides who gets to live and who goes home.'Jefferies is coming to the islands this summer for a pair of stand-up comedy shows, starting July 25 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, followed by a show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on July 26. 'I've been writing this show for a very long time, it's good to go. I will say this about the Hawaii shows, these are the only shows in the world that I request to do every year,' Jefferies said. Check out more news from around Hawaii 'The Snake' premieres on KHON2 Tuesday night at 8:00 Hawaii Time. Tickets for his Son of a Carpenter tour can be found here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
