Defending world champions Ilia Malinin and Madison Chock and Evan Bates, and 2025 U.S. champion Amber Glenn will headline Team USA at the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships.
Chock and Bates could potentially become the first ice dancers to win a third consecutive world title in 28 years. Meanwhile Malinin is aiming to become the second American men's singles skater to repeat as world champion in the last 40 years (after Nathan Chen).
The competition will be hosted by the renowned Skating Club of Boston, which was heavily impacted by the tragic D.C. plane crash back in January. The club lost three of its skaters in the deadly crash — Jinna Han, Spencer Lane and Olivia Ter — and two coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who were also world champions in their own right. The loss is likely to be felt throughout the entire competition, by Team USA and beyond.
The ISU 2025 World Figure Skating Championships will hold a remembrance ceremony for the six members of the figure skating community lost in the D.C. plane crash. The ceremony will stream on Peacock on Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 6:15 p.m. ET.
NBC will also re-air Legacy on Ice, a special covering the skating community's memorial gala for the lost skaters, this Sunday. Legacy on Ice featured performances by Malinin, U.S. champion Amber Glenn, 13-year-old Isabella Aparicio (skating in memory of her late brother and father) and Maxim Naumov, the son of Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.

Britons Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu to face each other in US Open doubles
British number ones Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu will face each other in the first round of the revamped US Open mixed doubles. The mixed doubles has been moved to before the main tournament on August 19 and 20, with one million dollars (£750,000) in prize money at stake for the winners of the 16-pair event. Draper will play with American Jessica Pegula after their original partners, Paula Badosa and Tommy Paul, both withdrew. With both inside the top five in the singles rankings, the pair have been handed the top seeding and will kick off their campaign against wild card pair Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz. The winners could face 24-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic and his partner Olga Danilovic if the Serbian pair overcome Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. Venus Williams, at the age of 45, faces Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev alongside compatriot Reilly Opelka.

Pegula-Draper a new team for US Open mixed doubles, and Sinner needs another partner
NEW YORK (AP) — Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper will team up for the U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, after their previous partners withdrew Friday from the revamped event. Top-ranked men's player Jannik Sinner also needs a new partner if he wants to play in the event that will reward $1 million to the winning team, as Emma Navarro also has pulled out of the competition that begins Tuesday and will instead be playing next week in a tournament in Monterrey, Mexico. Pegula was slated to play with fellow American Tommy Paul, while Draper had been paired with Paula Badosa. Pegula, Draper and Sinner were all allowed to find a new partner by Sunday's deadline and maintain a direct entry into the field of 16 teams if their combined singles ranking was high enough. Pegula, last year's U.S. Open women's runner-up, and Draper had a combined ranking of 9 as of the entry deadline. After the withdrawals and new pairings, Italians Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti also moved into the draw via direct entry through their combined rankings. There are 13 spots currently filled, including defending mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who were given one of the wild cards by the U.S. Tennis Association. They criticized the new format, a shortened, two-day event that will largely be filled by top singles players. The other teams that have qualified directly include: Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune, Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev, and Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. The other wild cards that have been given have gone to Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz, Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe, Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic, Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton, and Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka. ___ AP tennis: The Associated Press

Ten Hag says he can't work Harry Potter-style magic to hasten Leverkusen rebuild
LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) — Erik ten Hag has warned he can't work Harry Potter-style magic to forge a new-look Bayer Leverkusen into a true team as the ex-Manchester United manager prepares for his first game in charge. Ten Hag's first job since leaving United sees the Dutch coach faced with a major rebuild at Leverkusen following the departure of his title-winning predecessor Xabi Alonso and key players including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Granit Xhaka. 'I know how to manage processes and you can't force the process. It's impossible. No one is like Harry Potter," Ten Hag said on Thursday ahead of his first game on Friday in the German Cup against fourth-tier Sonnenhof Grossaspach. "Harry, he can really (quickly) construct a team, and in the same time it's successful, but that is not how top football works.' Ten Hag used the Harry Potter line in his time at United, too. Following a loss to Liverpool in September 2024, he said he was no Harry Potter while explaining the difficulties of relying on players who hadn't had much game time. Less than two months later, Ten Hag was fired by United after four losses in nine Premier League games. Ten Hag said he and the Leverkusen players will have to work hard together through the first half of the season and into the spring to be able to fight for trophies at the end of the campaign. 'For me, the start of the season is the middle of March, April 1, then you have to be in a position that you can win something,' he said. 'Until that time, we all have to work unbelievably hard to get into that position, to develop and progress the game model and to develop the team and the individual players.' New signings ahead of Friday's game include American attacking midfielder Malik Tillman, who Ten Hag said wasn't fit to play, ex-Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah and former Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken. Leverkusen confirmed midfielder Robert Andrich was the captain after goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky left for Monaco. ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press
