Project InnerSpace Launches Initiative to Accelerate Geothermal Development in Indonesia
Geothermal has the potential to unlock vast amounts of affordable, reliable, and clean energy and heat, becoming a vital part of Indonesia's energy security and economic development JAKARTA, Indonesia , June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Project InnerSpace, an independent, not-for-profit organization committed to eliminating the major barriers to scaled development of geothermal energy, launched a new effort in partnership with the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), a leading energy think tank in Indonesia, to further expand development of Indonesia's vast geothermal resources. Indonesia is the second largest producer of geothermal energy for electricity worldwide, according to the International Energy Agency's "The Future of Geothermal Energy" report. Indonesia added more than 1GW of geothermal net power capacity to its energy supply between 2013 and 2023 and has large-scale geothermal projects underway. Much more is possible. An initial analysis of data from Project InnerSpace's GeoMap™ shows that Indonesia has about 3,000 GW of geothermal potential, of which about 20 GW — or half of Indonesia's total energy demand — can be reached at an LCOE of less than $150 per MWh. There is also significant opportunity for direct-use heat. Project InnerSpace and IESR convened a broad group of industry leaders, policy-makers, and subject matter experts in Jakarta today to solicit ideas and feedback for a concrete and actionable plan to meet that potential and rapidly scale geothermal development in Indonesia. Project InnerSpace and IESR will publish a comprehensive geothermal report and roadmap, entitled "The Future of Geothermal in Indonesia," in English and Bahasa Indonesia in the fall. The report will leverage Indonesia-based subject matter experts and expertise to examine the country's total geothermal potential across all applications and technological concepts, and offer recommendations for overcoming investment barriers, adopting policies that encourage geothermal development, and implementing practical strategies to move the industry forward. Contributors include Universitas Gadjah Mada, Enerka, Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center and Universitas Brawijaya. "Indonesia has long recognized geothermal energy as a central component of its energy strategy," said Fabby Tumiwa, Executive Director of IESR. "Working in partnership on this initiative with Project InnerSpace, we hope to accelerate development so we can truly take advantage of the vast geothermal resources beneath our feet. Indonesia is already a global leader in geothermal energy generation, but, through initiatives like this report, the nation can continue to advance into the next-generation of geothermal exploration and growth." "Indonesia sits atop massive geothermal resources so it is only fitting that it is among the countries at the forefront of geothermal development," said Jamie Beard, Executive Director of Project InnerSpace. "By bringing together Indonesia's geothermal energy and policy leaders, we can foster collaboration, accelerate the timeline and turn potential into action. Geothermal will be a huge win for Indonesia's energy future." Project InnerSpace is a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on expanding the use of geothermal energy globally. We are a team of scientists working to combine the voices of visionaries, entrepreneurs, and disruptors with the breakthrough expertise of geologists, drilling experts, and well engineers to build a future where geothermal powers the world with abundant and affordable energy. Project InnerSpace's catalogue of "Future of" reports includes Texas and Pennsylvania (US), with reports in New Mexico (US), India and Indonesia in development. IELTS-owner IDP Education flags lower annual profit on student visa troubles; shares crash
By Aaditya GovindRao (Reuters) - Australia's IDP Education forecast a drop in annual profit on Tuesday, triggering a 48% plunge in its shares as tighter student visa rules hit demand at the firm that jointly owns the IELTS English language exam with the British Council and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The company forecast fiscal 2025 adjusted operating earnings of A$115–A$125 million, nearly halved from last year and below a consensus estimate of A$166.3 million according to E&P Capital analysts. IDP's stock slumped as much as 48.3% by 0411 GMT, marking its biggest intraday decline ever. It was last down 45% at A$4.11, trading at near eight-year lows and the worst performer on the benchmark S&P ASX200 index. The company, which also provides placement services to students looking for admissions at foreign institutes, said student policies remained restrictive in Canada and Australia after their elections, while the UK's recent immigration policy white paper signaled further restrictions to student immigration. For the United States, the international student environment is "increasingly negative", the company said in a statement. President Donald Trump's administration is seeking to ramp up deportations and revoke student visas as part of his hardline immigration agenda. "While elections have now been held in all key destination markets, policy uncertainty and negative rhetoric continues, while economic uncertainty increased," the company said. IDP expects its student placement volumes to fall by 28% to 30% and language testing volumes to decrease 18% to 20% over last year. "Whilst fee growth will partly offset volume declines, we had expected a better performance than overall market declines given IDP's focus on genuine student flows," analysts at Sandstone Insights said in a note. Loca Loka Tequila's Golden Hour
At first blush, the idea of a tequila from the highlands of Mexico melded with the culture and creativity of India would seem an unlikely combination. But the vision of Loca Loka Tequila's founders—Indian film star Rana Daggubati, musician and composer Anirudh Ravichander, and entrepreneur Harsha Vadlamudi—and the craftsmanship of the artisans who shepherded the tequila from agave to bottle, have been rewarded with a gold medal at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), one of the most prestigious spirits competitions in the world. Jalisco, By Way of New Delhi More from Robb Report Introducing Robinhood Legend, a New Frontier for Active Traders A Century in Bloom: Rioja at 100 181 Fremont's Grand Penthouse Redefines Urban Luxury The medal comes a year after the launch of Loca Loka, whose name is the Spanish word for 'crazy' and the Sanskrit word for 'world.' Jalisco, a state in Mexico where tequila is made, is more than 9,000 miles from New Delhi, India's capital. But there is common ground between the two cultures. Daggubati explains, 'Loca Loka was born from a shared passion for storytelling and cultural fusion. As co-founders, [we] brought together diverse experiences—from hospitality to music—to build a tequila brand that celebrates joy, flavor, and global connection.' With tequila having become a global phenomenon over the last couple of decades, the time has come for those who love it worldwide to use the category as a reflection of their own cultures. Loca Loka co-founder Ravichander is one of India's most renowned musicians, famed for his singing, writing, instrumental prowess and production both in films and on record. 'Music and spirits are a natural match,' Ravichander says, 'and I'd already seen tequila gaining traction in my circles. This felt like the perfect first step into entrepreneurship—an opportunity to merge my passion for music with a vibrant lifestyle brand. We're bringing the brand to life through live events and concerts, and I'm even composing original music inspired by Loca Loka.' Additive-Free, Made the Traditional Way Although Loca Loka was imagined in India, it's made according to Mexican tradition, without additives and with only the finest 100-percent blue Weber agave from the highlands of Jalisco. The agaves used to make the tequila have aged for at least six years, giving them a higher sugar content, which results in a better finished product. Loca Loka is available in two expressions: a blanco and a reposado. The blanco is unaged, showcasing the quality of the agave and the skill of the tequileros; the sweet flavor of cooked agave combines with a subtle earthiness and a smooth, prolonged finish. The reposado is aged for less than a year in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The French oak imparts a rounded sweetness while the American oak contributes vanilla and peppery spice, both of which harmonize with the sweet, lightly vegetal and mineral notes of the cooked agave, without overwhelming it. Both the blanco and the reposado are ideal for sipping as well as mixing. and the tequila's quality is evident even when tasted blind—as was the case in San Francisco, when the judges at the SFWSC awarded it the gold. Bringing Loca Loka to the World Loca Loka initially rolled out in the U.S. in 2024. In 2025, the brand looks to establish an international footprint, expanding to India as well as the U.K., Dubai, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Travel retail will also be a focus. 'With travel retail as a priority channel,' co-founder Vadlamudi explains, 'our journey will begin at [India's] Hyderabad International Airport, chosen for its growing consumer base and global connectivity. Through curated displays, tastings, and immersive brand storytelling, we aim to introduce Loca Loka as a premium discovery brand—celebrating cultural intersections and inviting international travelers to toast to a new era of celebration.' To have such a global reach is almost unheard of for such a young brand, but Loca Loka's trio of founders has positioned it as a tequila with worldwide appeal, from the stylish look of the bottles to the presence of Daggubati and Anirudh as its spokesmen. In the end, though, it's the quality of the spirit in the bottle that determines a brand's success—and as its triumph in San Francisco attests, Loca Loka's future is looking bright.
