Nassourdine Imavov abandons UFC 319 backup role, turns attention to Caio Borralho
No backup anymore. Conditions changed. You wanted to talk son, I'm here, I'm gonna break you @BorralhoCaio 🤓 ⏳ — Imavov Nassourdine (@imavov1) June 17, 2025
Nassourdine Imavov says he's no longer the backup for the UFC 319 middleweight title fight.
Instead, Imavov (16-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC), the UFC-ranked No. 1 middleweight, wants a scheduled fight of his own against Caio Borralho. The 29-year-old French fighter did not explain why he's abandoning the backup role for Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev, which serves as the UFC 319 main event at United Center in Chicago.
"No backup anymore," Imavov wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "Conditions changed. You wanted to talk son, I'm here, I'm gonna break you @BorralhoCaio."
Imavov has changed his tune on Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC), after initially dismissing his callout. In April, Borralho claimed Imavov turned down a fight offer, which prompted the Brazilian to sound off. At the time, Imavov didn't see an upside to fighting Borralho, who is further down in the rankings.
In the latest MMA Junkie/USA TODAY Sports middleweight rankings, Imavov holds the No. 4 spot with Borralho not too far behind at No. 8.
Currently riding a four-fight winning streak that includes wins over Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, Brendan Allen, and former champion Israel Adesanya, Imavov is knocking on the door of a title shot. Borralho is rapidly climbing the ladder at 185 pounds as well, as he is undefeated through seven UFC bouts, including back-to-back bonus-earning performances in his most recent fights against Paul Craig and Jared Cannonier.

After stepping into the managerial hot seat at Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso has continued to make headlines—this time with a clear message regarding winger Rodrygo Goes. Amid swirling rumours suggesting the Brazilian was unhappy at the club and eyeing a move elsewhere, Alonso has firmly denied any such claims. Speaking in a press conference ahead of Madrid's FIFA Club World Cup clash against Al Hilal, Alonso expressed full confidence in Rodrygo's commitment and mentality. 'I know what happened with Rodrygo last season. He took some time to reset. I see him eager to contribute on the field, hungry and ready to enjoy himself. We've talked about it and shared it,' said the Real Madrid boss. Rodrygo endured an inconsistent campaign last season, which sparked speculation about his future at the Santiago Bernabéu. However, under Alonso's guidance, it appears the 23-year-old is prepared to turn a new page and fight for his place in the starting lineup. FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Former Chelsea's defender shows masterclass against Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have faced a disappointing 0-0 draw in the first game of the FIFA Club World Cup as the Brazilian side Fluminense. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on June 18, 2025, 08:22 IST Borussia Dortmund have faced a disappointing 0-0 draw in the first game of the FIFA Club World Cup as the Brazilian side Fluminense. The game was very tight and both the teams were fighting hard for the victor. However, a 40-year-old man defended so well for Fluminense that Dortmund couldn't capitalise on any of their attacks made. Former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva was phenomenal had a brilliant performance and a good first game for Fluminense. Borussia Dortmund were left frustrated in their opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup, settling for a disappointing 0-0 draw against Brazilian giants Fluminense. Despite dominating large parts of the match, the Bundesliga side failed to break through a resilient Fluminense backline led by the evergreen Thiago Silva. At 40 years of age, the former Chelsea and PSG star rolled back the years with a defensive masterclass. Silva was everywhere at the back — winning 9 duels, making 7 clearances, 3 interceptions, and dominating in the air with 8 aerial duels won. His leadership and positioning proved to be the difference on a night where Dortmund's attacking efforts lacked the final touch. The game was tightly contested, with both sides fighting tooth and nail for control, but neither team could find the breakthrough. Dortmund will feel they missed an opportunity to start their campaign with three points, while Fluminense will take confidence from a disciplined and gritty performance.
