The Gators defeated Houston 65-63 Monday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio to win the program's third national championship.
Creighton basketball is reportedly hiring former assistant Alan Huss as its coach in waiting, according to multiple reports on Friday.
Huss served as an assistant under Bluejays coach Greg McDermott from 2017-23 before taking over at High Point in 2023. He took the Panthers to their first men's NCAA Tournament in his second season at the helm.
The reports do not indicate or suggest McDermott is planning to step down, but that the move is meant to ease the transition away from the longtime coach, who has coached in some capacity since 1989 and who has been a head coach at the Division I level since 2000.

Huss, 46, is also a Creighton alum, having played there from 1997-2001 alongside future NBA All-Star Kyle Korver. Huss started 38 career games for his alma mater and made three NCAA Tournament appearances under then-coach Dana Altman, who's now at Oregon.
Huss had previously agreed to a contract extension at High Point on March 6 after becoming the fastest coach to reach 50 wins in Big South history, also winning the conference to earn a spot in the 68-team bracket for the first time in program history. The Panthers were a 13 seed and fell to 4 seed Purdue, 75-63, in the first round.
McDermott has helped build Creighton into one of the most consistent college basketball programs, as the Bluejays have made five consecutive NCAA Tournaments with trips to the Elite Eight in 2023 and Sweet 16 in 2021 and 2024. Creighton won its first-round game against Louisville in 2025 before falling to Auburn in the second round.
Creighton is losing All-American Ryan Kalkbrenner and senior point guard Richie Ashworth next season due to running out of eligibility, along with dynamic guard Pop Isaacs, who's transferring to Houston.

The Rockets' over/under was listed at 55.5 wins, and Bailey projected them to have a 52-30 record once again. In this Western Conference, though, getting any number of wins over 50 is going to be tough. And the Rockets presumed leading scorer, Durant, turns 37 in September. He played 75 games in 2023-24, but he's averaged just under 55 over the half-decade since returning from his ruptured Achilles. "That and a lack of high-end offensive creation beyond KD could limit Houston's chances of hitting a very high over-under." Durant is still either in his prime or close to it. He averaged 26.6 points on 52.7% overall shooting and 43% from 3-point range last season, and he appeared in 62 games after playing in 75 games during the previous season. But as Bailey noted, Houston lacks other players who can create and hit their own shot in a halfcourt setting. Center Alperen Sengun put up 19.1 points per game and made his first All-Star game this past season, but the rest of the team's roster is lacking in the shot creation category. Houston was heavily dependent on its defense to create fast-break scores during the 2024-25 campaign. When it faces an excellent defensive team come playoff time, there could be too much pressure on the greybearded Durant to bail out his mates. Thompson, who averaged 14.1 points per game last season, is thought to perhaps have some star potential, and if he busts out this fall and winter, it would greatly raise the Rockets' potential. Notre Dame's Niele Ivey tweaks coaching staff, promotes Carlos Knox to assistant coach
Coming off her fourth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance, Notre Dame women's head basketball coach Niele Ivey made a tweak to her coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 season. After two successful years as director of player personnel for the program, Carlos Knox has been promoted to assistant coach ahead of his third season in South Bend. Knox has been praised for helping develop many of ND's student-athletes, including 2025 WNBA Draft picks Liatu King and Maddy Westbeld. Last season, King broke the Notre Dame single-season record for rebounds per game (10.4) and was named to the all-ACC second team. The previous year, Westbeld was one of four players in the ACC to average at least 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds. Before his time in South Bend, Knox worked almost a decade with the Indiana Fever in multiple roles and helped lead the team to eight consecutive WNBA playoff appearances, including the 2012 WNBA championship. Knox was a two-time NCAA scoring champion, NCAA All-American and NCAA Player of the Year for IUPUI. After college, he played for the Indiana Pacers from 1998-99 and played overseas in Croatia, Germany, Venezuela and Italy. Jimmy Butler lands at No. 40 in NBA 2K26 top 100 ranking
Rising into the Top 50 👀Who are you surprised to see here in the #NBA2KTop100? An early sign that the NBA season is nearing is the release of the video game, NBA 2K. While the release date is set for September 6 for the new edition of NBA 2K26, the video game franchise has begun to release player ratings for some of the top players around the association. On social media, NBA 2K is counting down the top 100 players in the game. As players ranked 50-31 were released, a member of the Golden State Warriors made an appearance on the countdown. At No. 40, Golden State veteran forward Jimmy Butler was listed with an 87 overall rating. NBA 2K26 will be the second consecutive year where Butler will start the game with a rating in the 80 range. Prior to NBA 2K25, Butler earned a rating of at least 91 for three straight seasons, including a high of 95 in 2K24. Butler has been rated with a 90 or above four times in his career. Butler's 87 rating 2K26 is his lowest rating since NBA 2K16. Houston's Amen Thompson (41), Boston's Derrick White (39), Los Angeles Clippers' Ivica Zubac (38), New Orleans' Zion Willamson (37), Cleveland's Darius Garland (36), Charlotte's LaMelo Ball (35), Houston's Alperen Sengun (34) and Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis (33) all joined Butler with an 87 rating. Butler played 35 games with the Warriors last season after being acquired at the trade deadline.
