‘It was an ugly match'
'In the second half the game was even more ugly, more physical, with more interruptions,' said the Pirates head coach.

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro clearly wasn't impressed with what he saw after his side were beaten 2-1 by Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates were unable to win the trophy for the third successive season. They lost their first ever Nedbank Cup match since Riveiro arrived at the club in 2022. The Spaniard will still leave Pirates at the end of this season with five knockout trophies, three MTN8s and two Nedbank Cups.
'It was an ugly match, there was not so much football from both sides. We were fighting the elements, and the game was affected quite heavily by the penalty,' Riveiro told journalists after the match.
Chiefs got a penalty early in the game. Pule Mmodi went down under the challenge of Deano Van Rooyen.
Pirates did equalise through Evidence Makgopa. And RIveiro hinted that his own side should have had a penalty for a foul in the box on Relebohile Mofokeng.
'We had to come back again (Pirates came back from a goal down to beat Chiefs 2-1 in the Betway Premiership the previous weekend). And we managed to do it.
'In the first half we were territorially superior, we only had some problems with Mmodi, everything else was under control.
'We had an opportunity to score a second, with one action of Rele in the box. But we were not rewarded with a penalty.'
'It was impossible'
'In the second half the game was even more ugly, more physical, with more interruptions. In the last 20 minutes both sides with substitutes made the game a bit more open. And in that moment they scored the second goal. It was impossible for us to generate enough in the last ten minutes.'

Yusuf Maart's volley from the edge of the box put Chiefs 2-1 up and ultimately meant they won their first trophy in ten years.
'Congratulations to Chiefs for the trophy, and that's it,' added Riveiro.

All you need to know about Orlando Pirates signing Tshepho Mashiloane
Orlando Pirates have wrapped up the signing of Tshepho Mashiloane from NFD outfit Baroka FC. What does he bring to the party? SABC Sport reported last month that Pirates had sealed a deal for Tshepho Mashiloane from Baroka. What is there to know about the 23-year-old? Well, the versatile defender can operate at right-back or in central midfield. This will be a considerable boost for the Pirates technical team; although they have a strong squad at their disposal, both full-back positions are a relative weak spot. With experience in the second tier, it's also hoped that he's ready for a battle. There are reports that Pirates are also close to wrapping up a deal for Baroka's winger Kabelo Kgositsile. He's opened up about the imminent move, which is a bittersweet one. Since making the step up from youth to senior football in 2025, Jaedin Rhodes has flourished. Rhodes can operate in several attacking midfield roles, either on the flanks or behind a central striker. He made 23 appearances in the 2024-2025 league season for the Citizens. Availability is one of his biggest strengths. Last season, he made 29 league appearances, and the season before, he notched up 17. Orlando Pirates fans are expectant on Soweto Derby Day. 'It's just people having wishes, and it's one of those disturbing stories,' said Cream Sports. Esperance Elias Mokwana will not be moving to Kaizer Chiefs, according to the player's agency. Picture: Ryan Wilkisky/BackpagePix The agency representing Bafana Bafana and Esperance winger Elias Mokwana has denied rumours he could be sold by the Tunisian giants to Kaizer Chiefs. ALSO READ: Basadien 'privileged' to captain Bafana 'There is no truth in those reports about Mokwana joining Kaizer Chiefs, there's nothing, nothing like that,' sports agency Cream Sports told Chiefs-linked Mokwana 'still happy at Esperance' 'It's just people having wishes, and it's one of those disturbing stories. 'His camp has not received nor heard any word from Chiefs and I can tell you, Mokwana is still happy at Esperance,' the agency concluded. Mokwana moved to Esperance from Sekhukhune United this past season, and helped them do a league and cup double, as well as reach the Caf Champions League quarterfinals, where they lost to Mamelodi Sundowns. He was in and out of the Esperance side, however, and was reported to be close to leaving the club in November over a contract dispute. I witnessed Radiopane's brilliance before the world knew his name: Former Chiefs star
I witnessed Radiopane's brilliance before the world knew his name: Former Chiefs star SEBOKENG.- When Orlando Pirates' deadly striker Boitumelo Radiopane featured at the Abia Nale Sports Foundation Tournament, little did he know that one day he would be playing in South African top-flight football. It was at the U13 four-team soccer tournament, organised by the former Kaizer Chiefs dreadlocked forward Abia Nale, with Radiopane playing for Celta Vigo Development FC. The tournament took place at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, and Radiopane became the tournament's top goal scorer. Pirates spotted Radiopane at their annual soccer tournament known as the Pirates Cup. He was playing in the colours of the School of Excellence after joining them from his amateur team, Celta Vigo FC. This is the club that discovered his talent at a very young age from the dusty streets of Zone 3. Radiopane's rise to stardom was when he was promoted to Orlando Pirates' Reserve Team that campaigned in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC). This is where he caught the attention of many, especially the Pirates senior technical team. Radiopane is now a big part of Pirates' senior team's plan for the coming season. He is expected to be the club's top marksman in the new season, playing alongside his homeboy, Relebohile Mofokeng. Both come from the Vaal, Sharpeville and Sebokeng respectively. When reflecting, Nale said no one saw that this little boy, 'wet behind the ears', would one day play for one of the biggest clubs on the continent. According to Nale, he witnessed Radiopane's talent when he was 13 years old. 'I still remember when I handed him a top goal scorer award, he was my height. I still have his picture, and it makes me proud that I witnessed his talent before the world saw it. The other player who featured in this tournament was Lebohang Lesako, who also played for Kaizer Chiefs. I'm very grateful to have contributed to their talent by providing the platform to showcase their talent,' said Nale. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention.
