Injuries shake up Wallabies' flyhalf options ahead of Rugby Championship
Rugby Australia unveiled a 35-man squad Thursday for the two tests against the World Cup champion Springboks, making injury-enforced changes to the squad that won the third test in a 2-1 series loss to the British and Irish Lions.
Edmed went on as a replacement in his one and only test to date — a narrow loss to Ireland last November — and wasn't in the Wallabies squad for the series against the Lions.
O'Connor, a 64-test veteran who played for the Super Rugby-winning Crusaders last season, was in the wider Wallabies squad but not selected for matches.
Donaldson went on as a replacement for Lynagh in the third test after the 22-year-old playmaker sustained a concussion from an illegal tackle from Lions hooker Dan Sheehan that resulted in a four-game suspension for the Irishman.
An injury to Jake Gordon has delayed veteran scrumhalf Nic White's international retirement. White, regular finisher Tate McDermott and uncapped Ryan Lonergan were the scrumhalves picked for the squad to take on South Africa in two tests on Aug. 16 in Johannesburg and Aug. 23 in Cape Town.
Lonergan is one of three uncapped players in the squad, along with winger Corey Toole and former New Zealand All Blacks prop Aidan Ross, who joined the Queensland Reds from the Chiefs following the Super Rugby final.
Backrower Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, who played in three tour games against the Lions but wasn't part of the Wallabies set up, has returned to the top squad.
'It's pleasing to be able to keep the core of the group together, while also leaning on some depth and fresh bodies,:" Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said. 'We're very conscious of how difficult it is going to be, playing South Africa on their home turf over two consecutive weekends.
'The group has made some positive steps throughout the start of the test season but we all know there is a lot of hard work ahead of us.'

Hard-luck story as Aussie women wiped out in Cincinnati
It was a case of three strikes and you're out for Australia's women at the Cincinnati Open. With the US Open less than a fortnight away, players are using the hard-court event as a vital tune-up to the year's final major in New York. However, there was no joy for the Australian trio of Daria Kasatkina, Ajla Tomljanovic and Kimberly Birrell, who all lost their second-round matches in Cincinnati on Sunday (local time). Kasatkina couldn't live up to her 15th seeding, falling to talented Italian Lucia Bronzetti in three sets. Bronzetti brilliance 👏Lucia Bronzetti sees off Kasatkina for her place in the third round!#CincyTennis — wta (@WTA) August 10, 2025 The Australian fought back after a disappointing opening set to handily win the second, before Bronzetti triumphed 6-3 1-6 6-4. Veteran Tomljanovic pushed 16th seed Clara Tauson to the brink, before the Dane clinched victory 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-4. In a battle of the big servers, the tall Dane blasted down 14 aces to nine for the Australian. Tomljanovic was only able to convert one of the five break points she set up, while Tauson managed to break three times from four opportunities. Tauson's victory continues a great fortnight after she beat major winners Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys on her way to the semi-finals of last week's Canadian Open. Birrell gave a good account of herself but was unable to stop the march of fourth-seeded American Jessica Pegula, last year's finalist winning 6-4 6-3. Through in two ✌️No.4 seed Jessica Pegula makes her way to the third round with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Birrell.#CincyTennis — wta (@WTA) August 10, 2025 Australia's hopes in the women's section of the tournament now rest with talented teen Maya Joint. The young Aussie upset 18th-seeded Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in her second-round match on Saturday to set up a meeting with 12-seeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova. In other action on Sunday, second-seeded American Coco Gauff, the 2023 champion, overcame early problems on serve to cruise past China's Wang Xinyu 6-3 6-2. Seventh seed Jasmine Paolini, of Italy, edged into the next round with a tight 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) victory over Maria Sakkari, of Greece. However, eighth-seeded American Emma Navarro suffered a surprise loss, with Germany's Ella Seidel beating her 6-4 1-6 6-4. - with Agencies

'This is big': AFL world reacts amid major news about Collingwood players
Collingwood fans and AFL greats have welcomed news that Scott Pendlebury and Darcy Cameron have re-signed to stay at the Magpies. On Monday, Collingwood announced that both Pendlebury and Cameron have re-committed their futures to the powerhouse AFL club. Pendlebury has re-signed for a staggering 21st season, which will put the AFL games record within his reach. Ruckman Darcy Cameron also ended speculation around his future by signing a three-year contract extension. Cameron had been linked with a return home to Perth, with a number of AFL journos predicting he'd leave Collingwood. The 30-year-old was set to be the target of several clubs given his emergence as one of the game's most consistent ruckmen. 'I'm incredibly grateful to sign on for a further three years. Collingwood is a special place and I'm proud to call it home,' Cameron said. 'With a single game under my belt when I arrived, to now playing over 100, the Pies put their faith in me and I'll be forever grateful for the growth and opportunities I've had since arriving at the club. 'Recommitting to Collingwood was an easy decision. This club means a lot to me and now feels like the right time to commit again. We have such a special group here, from the players to the coaches and all staff, and I can't wait to see what we achieve over the coming years.' RELATED: AFL world divided over startling development around James Hird Sad blow for Dermott Brereton and family after brutal scenes Collingwood list boss Justin Leppitsch said: 'Darcy has become a key pillar of our side, both on and off the field. 'DC' has been a consistent performer and a great teammate. "His versatility, contested marking and ability to cover the ground makes him a top line ruckman in our competition. His work ethic, leadership and team-first approach sets a great example for all around him, and we're excited to see what he can continue to deliver in the years ahead.' AFL greats laud Collingwood over Darcy Cameron extension Speaking on SEN radio, Kane Cornes said it was a huge re-signing for the Pies. 'This is big, that Darcy Cameron has signed a three-year contract extension,' Cornes said. 'Was already contracted until the end of 2026 so a four-year commitment until the end of 2029. 'Pies fans - big, big news because there was talk he was going to take the Godfather offer back home in Perth, but they've stitched that one up. A big contract.' David King added: 'You've just got to get them done, you've got a find a way to satisfy all parties. They've been pretty 'Uncle Scrooge' with Justin Leppitsch, he's got the abacus out, he's managing the finances really well.' Scott Pendlebury set to chase AFL games record As for Pendlebury, the 37-year-old will be chasing Brent Harvey's all-time VFL/AFL record of 432. Pendlebury has 421 games under his belt. 'Everyone throughout the league appreciates the influence and experience that Scott brings to our side and we are pleased to have him sign on for 2026,' Leppitsch said. 'His professionalism is second to none, always ensuring he sets himself up to get the best out of himself and his teammates. 'In addition to his on-field contribution, it is the guidance he will provide his fellow teammates, setting the standards and embodying what it means to be a Collingwood person that will be influential throughout our 2026 campaign and beyond.' Collingwood fans were rapt to hear the news about Pendlebury and Cameron, taking to social media to hail the players and club. It comes as some welcome news in the wake of the Pies' concerning form slump, which has seen them slip to third on the AFL ladder. Fantastic news. Great way to start the week. Hopefully that will ease some of the internal tensions at the club. #forever #sidebyside #gopies — Rory Burnside (@RoryBurnside) August 10, 2025 Wrapt with this. Loving it DC. NRL world divided after Mitchell Moses spotted in furious act towards Eels teammate
Mitchell Moses' epic spray for Eels teammate Tallyn Da Silva has left NRL fans divided, with veteran commentator Andrew Voss insisting it's a part of footy the young recruit will just have to deal with. Da Silva endured a horror spell at dummy half after coming on in the second half of Parramatta's thrilling 19-18 win over North Queensland on Sunday, sealed by a Moses field goal in the dying stages. The Parramatta skipper proved the hero for his side but it was a series of explosive blow-ups at Da Silva that dominated debate after the game. With the contest hanging in the balance, the mid-season recruit from the Wests Tigers came up with a number of crucial errors that could have cost his side victory. It was 18-18 with 10 minutes to go when the young hooker decided to try and burrow over the tryline on the last tackle, rather than getting the ball into the hands of his captain and playmaker. Da Silva was wrapped up in the tackle and the chance to kick a field goal to go ahead went begging, causing Moses to absolutely lose it with his teammate. Moses could be seen shouting obscenities in the direction of Da Silva in one of the all-time sprays for his teammate, clearly furious with his last-tackle decision-making. 'Oh boy, he'll get a conversation from Moses for that,' Michael Ennis said in commentary for Fox League. It didn't get much better for the young rake, whose poor service from dummy half saw a number of balls go to ground and put even more pressure on his teammates. With his side one point up with less than three minutes to go, Moses gave Da Silva another furious serve after another bludger of a pass from dummy half rolled along the ground and saw the Eels cough up possession. The Parramatta skipper would have been looking to secure a repeat set for his side but saw them squander possession to the Cowboys and give them another chance to snatch victory or send the game into golden point. Again, the Eels skipper could be seen berating his young teammate over the error, which fortunately did not end up proving costly, as a potentially match-winning try to Jake Clifford was chalked up for interference on Moses. RELATED: Walters urges Broncos to avoid one player to replace injured halves NRL fans left fuming after Latrell Mitchell act goes unpunished Hammer blow for Sharks after star suspended for rest of season NRL world reacts to Mitchell Moses blow-up at teammate "Poor old Tallyn Da Silva possibly played the worst four or five minutes at dummy half in the history of the game," Voss said on SEN radio on Monday morning. "I don't think I've seen a dummy half make so many mistakes and errors of judgement in a short period with his team getting in front by one." "The on-field berating by Mitchell Moses... that's happened plenty of times. (But) It happened three times in five minutes, how do you come back from that? Was it fair game? Mitchell Moses lost his you-know-what. And I can understand it. I can imagine Parramatta fans losing it." Voss admitted the spray from Moses didn't look good but said it's a part of the game that players have to accept if they fail to live up to the standards of their teammates. League great Greg Alexander conceded that Da Silva probably did deserve to cop the serve from Moses but understood the divisive nature of the incident in the modern game, where concerns around the mental health of players are much more prominent. "We saw it more in the past but I can't remember the last time I saw a player berated like he was... I don't think we've seen it happen plenty of times recently," Alexander said on SEN radio. "I think most of that died out of the game where players are berated. He probably deserved it but it's tough. It's tough to handle." how many brain explosions can @TheParraEels have there. first Williams kicking on the fourth - got a lucky 6 again.. then Da Silva running on last.. cant blame moses for that blow up at him either!!! #nrleelscowboys — Bernie Coen (@berniecoen) August 10, 2025 If I was Talyn Da Silva, i'd wouldn't go within 20km of Mitchell Moses after this #NRLEelsCowboys — Jonny (@jonnyescott) August 10, 2025 Tallyn Da Silva is going to need a security escort out of the ground tonight. Just to protect him from Mitchell Moses. #NRLEelsCowboys — Lachlan Jeffery (@LachlanJeffery) August 10, 2025 All clubs want a half-back who is passionate and controls the game. Moses was frustrated with Da Silva for his inability to do his job. The fact that he spoke the way he did to him was relevant. He will learn. It's a professional sport. @TheParraEels #NRLEelsCowboys — Sandy (@sandyhunter2) August 10, 2025
