Additionally, low mfg. costs + GoI induced incentives are further boosting exports," the report said.The report highlights that this shift is driving increased business with Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEs), positioning the country as a preferred sourcing hub.
Boosting this momentum are low manufacturing costs and government-backed incentives, notably the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the auto sector. With a financial outlay of USD 3 billion, the scheme offers 8-18 per cent sales-linked incentives for advanced and electric vehicle components. It has already catalysed auto component exports worth USD 61.8 billion. Together, the China+1 strategy and strong policy support are propelling India's rise as a global auto component export hub, the report pointed out.
The China+1 strategy is a business strategy where companies diversify their manufacturing and supply chains by choosing another location besides China, reducing reliance on a single country.This strategy shows the desire of companies to mitigate risks associated with over-dependence on China, such as geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and rising costs.However, experts say that companies have to invest in research and development (R&D) to take advantage of opportunities.Amitabh Kant, Former CEO of the NITI Aayog, during an industry gathering in May, said, "You'll have to do the technology leapfrogging. You can't copy the Chinese. You have to beat the Chinese with one up. This game of China plus one by importing from China all the time will never work."Meanwhile, Chief Economic Adviser Anantha Nageswaran said that India, given its political stability, huge market opportunity, dynamic workforce, and steady rise in income levels, is eyed as one of the best places to set up manufacturing bases.India remains the fastest-growing major economy and is poised to maintain its growth trajectory.

In an environment of geopolitical flux amid talk of trade tariffs being levied by the United States, tourism is the sector that can compensate for potential losses, former G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said on Tuesday at the national conclave organised by the Federation of Associations of Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH). 'This is a massive opportunity to galvanise ourselves to bring in radical reforms. We should use it to simplify our GST norms to just two slabs, simplify personal tax, remove quality control orders that have impacted trade liberalisation, reduce taxes on inputs and components, and clean up our cities to make them great destinations. Moreover, we should use this as an opportunity to drive tourism simply because no other sector can beat Trumpian tariffs,' Kant said. The former NITI Aayog chief also called for Rs 20,000 crore for the tourism industry to promote India and penetrate global markets. 'This is the moment to ensure that we become the most competitive economy in the world. You need to look at sectors that will drive India's growth story with job creation. This sector can compensate for Trumpian tariffs more than any other sector by penetrating every global market with a brand campaign that will get you tourists from across the world,' he added. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has projected that the travel and tourism sector will contribute almost Rs 42 trillion to India's economy by 2035, supporting 64 million jobs. 'Trump has brought absolute unpredictability and inconsistency to trade policies across the world. But I am quite hopeful that India should be able to arrive at a win-win situation with the United States at the end of 20 days,' Kant said. Speaking at the same event, Suman Billa, additional secretary and director general, Ministry of Tourism, said there is a growing need for joint promotions with industry, states and brands beyond the realm of tourism. 'Brands like Royal Enfield and Fabindia can be leveraged for tourism and build the soft power that we have. There is no other sector that can create jobs across the spectrum. And we need to understand that tourism creates a demand that cannot be taxed at foreign borders,' Billa said. FAITH is the apex tourism policy and strategy think tank of national associations such as the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Hotel Association of India (HAI) and Adventure Tour Operators of India (ADTOI), among others. It aims to double the sector's contribution to India's GDP to 10 per cent by 2047 from 5 per cent at present. The conference aims to chart a roadmap towards Tourism Vision 2047 — a $3 trillion tourism economy generating 100 million inbound tourists, 20 billion domestic visits and 200 million tourism-related jobs.

Perplexity AI said it has made a $34.5 billion unsolicited all-cash offer for Alphabet's Chrome browser, a low but bold bid that would need financing well above the startup's own valuation. Run by Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity is no stranger to headline-grabbing offers - it made a similar one for TikTok U.S. in January, offering to merge with the popular short-video app to resolve U.S. concerns about TikTok's Chinese ownership. Buying Chrome would allow the startup to tap the browser's more than three billion users for an edge in the AI search race as regulatory pressure threatens Google's grip on the industry. Google did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. The company has not offered Chrome for sale and plans to appeal a U.S. court ruling last year that found it held an unlawful monopoly in online search. The Justice Department has sought a Chrome divestiture as part of the case's remedies. Perplexity did not disclose on Tuesday (August 12, 2025) how it plans to fund the offer. The three-year-old company has raised around $1 billion in funding so far from investors including Nvidia and Japan's SoftBank. It was last valued at $14 billion. Multiple funds have offered to finance the deal in full, a person familiar with the matter said, without naming the funds. As a new generation of users turns to chatbots such as ChatGPT and Perplexity for answers, web browsers are regaining prominence as vital gateways to search traffic and prized user data, making them central to Big Tech's AI ambitions. Perplexity already has an AI browser, Comet, that can perform certain tasks on a user's behalf and acquiring Chrome would give it the heft to better compete against bigger rivals such as OpenAI. The ChatGPT parent has also expressed interest in buying Chrome and is working on its own AI browser. Perplexity's bid pledges to keep the underlying browser code called Chromium open source, invest $3 billion over two years and make no changes to Chrome's default search engine, according to a term sheet seen by Reuters. The company said the offer, with no equity component, would preserve user choice and ease future competition concerns. Analysts have said Google would be unlikely to sell Chrome and would likely engage in a long legal fight to prevent that outcome, given it is crucial to the company's AI push as it rolls out features including AI-generated search summaries, known as Overviews, to help defend its search market share. A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling on remedies in the Google search antitrust case sometime this month. Perplexity's bid is also below the at least $50 billion value that rival search engine DuckDuckGo's CEO, Gabriel Weinberg, suggested Chrome may command if Google was forced to sell it. Besides OpenAI and Perplexity, Yahoo and private-equity firm Apollo Global Management have also expressed interest in Chrome.
