Minnesota Vikings training camp Day 1 medical updates: OL remains the focus
The worst part of football, especially during training camp, is waiting for injury updates as they occur or as players attempt to return from injuries sustained the previous season.
In the case of the Vikings, they had to battle the injury bug more than they did any divisional opponent. It will make monitoring injuries throughout camp a big part of our coverage here on Vikings Wire over the next couple of weeks.
After day one, the stars on offense who are fighting their way back dominated the news cycle, though Kevin O'Connell and the players offered updates on most who were dealing with injuries.

One International Game Every Year for Each NFL Team is on 'The Horizon'
Could an increase in international regular-season games a year be in the near future for the NFL? It's certainly a possibility. In fact, an "international game every year for every team" is "probably on the horizon," according to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, per NBC Sports. Blank's comments during an interview at Falcons training camp on Saturday come months after league commissioner Roger Goodell said last fall that the NFL wants to stage 16 international games per year. The league is limited to a maximum of 10 international games per year under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, but that number is reportedly widely expected to increase to 16 in the next labor deal. With 32 NFL teams, that would be a big lift for the league to schedule that many international games every season. In May, the league announced the full matchups for all but one game in its record seven-game international slate, which includes the Minnesota Vikings playing back-to-back games in different European countries (Ireland and England). The one matchup that hasn't been announced is who the Los Angeles Chargers will play in Week 1 in Brazil. The current schedule is: Week 1 (Friday, Sept. 5): TBD vs. Chargers at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil (Time TBD) Week 4 (Sunday, Sept. 28): Vikings vs. Steelers at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 5 (Sunday, Oct. 5): Vikings vs. Browns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 6 (Sunday, Oct. 12): Broncos vs. Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 7 (Sunday, Oct. 19): Rams vs. Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in Wembley, England (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 9): Falcons vs. Colts at Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany (9:30 a.m. ET) Week 11 (Sunday, Nov. 16): Commanders vs. Dolphins in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain (9:30 a.m. ET) Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Vikings quarterback option throws pick on first pass with new team
Rumors circled all offseason that the Vikings were unsure of what to do with J.J. McCarthy, both in terms of if he was to be the starter or if he would need a veteran backup. The team ultimately decided to roll with McCarthy and the three quarterbacks they debated between all signed elsewhere. One of the quarterbacks they had debated between was Aaron Rodgers, who could have completed the Brett Favre Batman villain arc had he signed with the team. That being said, nothing ever materialized, and he ended up with the Pittsburgh Steelers for what he believes to be his final season in the NFL. He started his final traning camp in a special way though: throwing a pick-6 Even if they had stuck with Rodgers, the rest of the Vikings' options at quarterback have all made the same mistake so far. Linebacker Ivan Pace Jr intercepted Sam Howell on his first pass of the training camp. That was followed up by a patented Gink 6 when Andrew Van Ginkel picked off a screen pass from Brett Rypien and returned it for a touchdown. Tough sledding in July for the quarterbacks, except J.J. McCarthy so far. This article originally appeared on Vikings Wire: Vikings QB option throws pick on first pass with new team

Vikings training camp notebook, day 4: Metellus extended, McCarthy shines
Letting it riiiiiiiiiip 🎯🎯@jjmccarthy09📺: Back Together Weekend on @nflnetwork The Vikings roster has reported to Eden Prairie, and as a result, they have started their journey into the 2025 season. It starts at home in Minnesota, but they hope it ends on the road in Santa Clara, where they have a chance to raise the Lombardi Trophy for the first time. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O'Connell have new extensions, as do their assistants and coordinators. J.J. McCarthy is finally healthy and ready to take over the controls of a franchise that trusted him enough to stick with him when so many other options presented themselves. All in all, the coaching staff remains essentially unchanged, while the roster sees some position groups infused with youth and talent to solidify them. The fourth day of training camp has wrapped, though, and it was action-packed. We saw a new extension for a fan favorite in Josh Metellus, and fans got to see firsthand how well J.J. McCarthy is developing. J.J. McCarthy has the fanbase behind him The fans got to have their eyes on the 2025 version of the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, and as a result, they got to see their favorite team look impressive up close and personal. In the process, they got to do the Skol Chant with Hall of Famer Cris Carter, they saw the defense look impressive, but most importantly, they saw J.J. McCarthy. After months away from the spotlight, at least on the field, McCarthy returned with a vengeance. He unleashed velocity, quick decisions, tight window throws, you name it. What stole the show, though, was another deep ball touchdown to Jordan Addison downfield. It seems those two have a strong connection early in camp, with Justin Jefferson's absence that is likely to keep growing. Brian Flores is in his bag early in camp The questions around the defense have focused on the secondary and the usage of sophomore pass rusher, Dallas Turner. On Saturday, the Vikings extended their Swiss Army knife defender, Josh Metellus, and Dallas Turner was reported to be used on the field in a variety of ways as well. The biggest news, as it relates to Turner, is that he was on the field while Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel were also present. Opposing offenses struggled to get consistent blocking done while handling Van Ginkel and Greenard; throwing Dallas Turner into the mix makes things almost impossible. Expect to see more consistent usage of the former Crimson Tide defender as camp progresses. T.J. Hockenson is looking healthy Last year, the Vikings' star tight end T.J. Hockenson was coming off a torn ACL at the hands of Lions safety Kerby Joseph. Coming back from a knee injury in the middle of the season is never easy, and we saw Hockenson struggle to find the momentum and success he was accustomed to. Fast forward to Vikings training camp on Saturday, reports indicate that Hockenson is back to his old self. On Saturday, he was hit down the field by J.J. McCarthy, and it got a big pop out of fans. While no one wants to see Justin Jefferson miss time, it will help him build his connection with those around the offense.
