Arrested Terror Suspect "Big Fish" Bomb Maker, Influenced By Zakir Naik: Andhra Pradesh Cops
The Andhra Pradesh police on Saturday identified one of the two terror suspects arrested here recently by Tamil Nadu police as a "big fish", with advanced bomb making skills.
Kurnool Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Koya Praveen said Abubacker Siddique operated as a lone wolf, providing his terror expertise to those who shared his radical ideology and was influenced by radical fugitive preacher Zakir Naik.
"This fellow (Siddique) whom we caught is too big a fish than what we had thought...This fellow is too big a fellow, who had travelled all across the length and breadth of this country. Who frequently travelled to the Gulf also, Abubacker Siddique," Praveen told PTI.
Recently, Tamil Nadu's Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested Siddique and his accomplice Mohammed Ali in Rayachoti in Annamayya district.
"Zakir Naik school of thought. He is more of a lone wolf. Ideologically motivated and an expert in making IEDs and electronic devices, timer explosive devices," said Praveen.
According to police, Siddique is an expert maker of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), timer explosive devices and other highly lethal materials.
Police conducted a fresh round of searches today at the duo's premises, but did not find any explosives. They managed to confiscate some documents and pen drives.
Earlier, police recovered daggers, sickles, digital timers, clock switches, speed controllers, ball bearings, nuts and bolts, binoculars, walkie-talkies, mobile phones, and hacking software.
They also seized maps of major Indian cities, coding manuals, ISIS-inspired literature, property documents, digital storage devices, cheque books, and financial records linked to suspicious transactions.
On July 3, police disposed of a parcel bomb seized from them.
After settling in Rayachoti, the DIG noted that Siddique, who is in his mid-50s, had carried out the bomb blast at BJP's Malleshwaram office in Bengaluru.
Siddique was allegedly involved in the 2011 pipe-bomb planting attempt during BJP veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani's rath yatra in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, among other terror activities.

Agency: Bhopal, Aug 20 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Wednesday the richness of journalism will remain alive only by struggle for the truth and called upon budding scribes to always be alert, active and aspire for moral values and preserve the democratic system. Drawing on the Ramayana and Mahabharata periods, he noted communication has always played an important role in history. Yadav was addressing the commencement of 2025-26 session of the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National Journalism University and a programme for its new students, 'Abhyudaya 2025', here. The chief minister said, 'The richness of journalism will remain alive only through struggle for the truth. 'Journalism is a form of communication and this art has been of special importance in every era. Whether it is the dialogue of Hanuman ji in the Ramayana or the Yaksha Prashna of the Mahabharata period, communication in both areas played an important role in history," he noted. Yaksha Prashna is a key episode from the Mahabharata, where a divine being, Yaksha, poses a series of philosophical questions to Yudhishthira, the eldest of the five Pandava brothers. The CM opined that communication and journalism have the ability to give a broad or subtle form to the impact of any event. 'In the present era and in the time to come, it is important for students, who are becoming proficient in journalism, to always remain alert, active and ready to maintain moral values, and also strive for the betterment of the democratic system through information and communication," Yadav averred. The chief minister observed 'Abhyudaya' in the field of journalism does not mean just beginning, but a journey of continuous awareness, search for the truth and responsibility that gives a new direction to society. He said in the field of journalism, the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism University has a unique identity in the entire country. It is a matter of pride that legendary poet and writer Makhanlal Chaturvedi was born in Babai Nagar of Madhya Pradesh and he made Khandwa his 'karmabhoomi' (place of work), the CM stated. Speaking on the occasion, noted poet Kumar Vishwas said history has shown the younger generation has always struggled for the betterment of the country. CBI court sentences Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in graft case
A special CBI court of Chandigarh Wednesday sentenced a Chandigarh Police Head Constable to seven-year imprisonment in a graft case. The convict, Ram Kumar, a Head Constable, was held guilty under Section 7 as well as Section 13(1) (d) (ii) punishable under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict. A detailed judgment was yet to be released in the matter. As per the prosecution, the case dates back to 2017 when Ram Kumar, who had been posted as a head constable at Sarangpur police station, was booked by the CBI. Kumar was held in May 2017 by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in an FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur. The accused was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband Shiv Nath had already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative Guru Narayan on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Kumar. Following all this, Kumar had demanded Rs 18,000 from the complainant but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. When Kumar went to take the bribe amount, the CBI sleuths reached the spot and caught the cop and recovered the bribe money from him. During the trial in court, the defence counsel argued that Kumar had been falsely implicated in the case and had no involvement in the matter. The court, however, after hearing the arguments held the accused guilty.

Thackeray alliance gets zero in Mumbai BEST Credit Society election, BJP leader's panel wins seven of 21 seats
The Mumbai BEST Credit society elections, perceived to be politically significant on the background of the upcoming local body elections, saw the victory of Shashank Rao panel which won 14 of the 21 seats. Significantly, the Thackeray cousins, who had fought the election together as a single panel, could not secure a single seat. Another panel, led by BJP leaders Prasad Lad and Pravin Darekar, secured seven seats. The ruling alliance claimed that the Thackerays has failed the litmus test before the upcoming elections. The elections to the Mumbai BEST Credit Society, which has a membership of over 17,000, was held after a period of nine years. It was controlled by the Shiv Sena (UBT) till before the elections. 'It was the Thackerays who had made this political. We were looking at it as a credit society's election. Now, it seems like the people have rejected the Thackeray brand,' Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. 'Those who raise doubts about EVMs have received a befitting answer. The people of Maharashtra have decided that those who work should be given the opportunity to work, and those who sit at home should be made to sit at home,' Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde taunted the Thackerays after the result on Wednesday (August 20, 2025). The Thackeray cousins had contested under 'Utkarsh' panel, which had fielded 21 candidates. The 'Sahakar Samruddhi' panel was fielded by BJP leaders Prasad Lad and Praveen Darekar. Shashank Rao, a union leader, had fielded his candidates under the Shashank Rao panel. 'It is wrong to consider this a litmus test. This cannot be compared to the BMC elections,' Sandeep Deshpande, MNS leaders, said. He had earlier claimed that money was distributed during the campaign. Shiv Sena UBT leader Suhas Samant too claimed that his party could not stand against the money power. Shashank Rao, after winning the election, slammed Uddhav Thackeray and claimed that the result was a reply by the BEST workers against the Shiv Sena UBT's policy of privatisation, against playing with the future of the employees and diverting the gratuity funds to fill the coffers of the favourite contractors. 'It is not just about this election. Basically, the whole focus is always on what you do. Credit society was not the issue. This time, we got into the campaign very late. But the workers were really agitated with the condition which was created. The recruitments were pending for years, employees had not received the benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission. Several retired employees had not received their gratuity for three years,' he told The Hindu. He said that of the 17,000 members, 15,093 employees were enrolled as voters. 'Each winning panelist got more than 4000 votes,' he said.
