Family Of Late SUKMA Weightlifting Athlete Receives PERKESO Benefits

Barnama16-07-2025
KUALA NERUS, July 16 (Bernama) -- The family of former Malaysia Games (SUKMA) weightlifting athlete Siti Noralyaa Mat Marzuki, who died last Saturday from breast cancer, has received survivor's pension benefits from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
PERKESO Terengganu director Suhara Mustaffa said the late athlete's parents and four younger siblings, aged between eight and 16, will receive a cumulative monthly pension of RM897 starting next month.
The family also received RM3,000 in funeral management assistance under PERKESO's social protection scheme.
'PERKESO remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Terengganu athletes. Over the past two years, we've supported 25 athletes undergoing rehabilitation, including two Terengganu FC (TFC) players still receiving treatment at the PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre,' she said during a visit to the family home in Taman Batin Perdana today.
Also present were Terengganu Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim and Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT) director Ahmad Shahrizal Yahaya.
Meanwhile, the late athlete's mother, Rusmailaili Samsuri, 43, said the assistance has helped ease the family's burden as they cope with their loss.
She said her daughter, the eldest of five siblings, was a key contributor to the household, especially in covering her siblings' education expenses.
'After leaving MSNT, she worked at a petrol station to help support the family. My husband works as a bread delivery driver and I'm a full-time homemaker.
'She was a good daughter. Most of her salary was spent on daily necessities and school supplies for her siblings,' she said.

Pahang Sports Council urges public caution over fake Sukma apparel sold on social media

KUANTAN, July 23 — The Pahang Sports Council (MSP) has denied involvement in any sales activity, particularly concerning official Malaysia Games (SUKMA) apparel. In a statement, MSP clarified that it has never appointed any individual or company to sell official SUKMA Pahang apparel via any social media platform, including Facebook. 'We have detected several Facebook posts claiming to sell SUKMA apparel in the name of the Pahang Sports Council,' the statement said. MSP also advised the public to remain cautious and not be deceived by dubious offers, and to report any relevant information to MSP via its official phone number or email to avoid being scammed. 'All matters related to official SUKMA apparel will only be announced through MSP's official channels, including its website and verified social media accounts,' the council said. — Bernama

Harimau Malaya Can Expect Stern Tests In Sept Friendlies Against Singapore, Palestine

PETALING JAYA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Harimau Malaya will take on Singapore and Palestine in two Tier 1 international football friendlies in September. National team head coach Peter Cklamovski said the 'Causeway Derby' against world number 159 Singapore will be on Sept 4, while the match against world number 98 Palestine will be on Sept 8. Even though the venue is not confirmed yet, Cklamovski hopes both matches, which will be part of Malaysia's preparations for their third Group F match of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers against Laos in October, will be played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. bootstrap slideshow The Australian tactician said both teams were carefully chosen for their unique attributes and the kind of test they provide for the squad's continued development following the emphatic 4-0 victory over Vietnam in their second Group F match of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers on the home ground last month. 'Singapore's a good team. The game will have (lots of) emotions. It's a derby and we look forward to it. It's not so much about rankings, where they place. It's going to be a tough game. 'Palestine has qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup and is ranked in the top 100. So, it's a challenge for us to go up against a good opponent and see where we stand against them. We want to put our mark on the game, play our football, put a team out there that will make Malaysians proud and excited,' he said during a coffee session with the media here today. As both matches are set to bring added value in terms of player development and tactical growth, Cklamovski has made it clear that their main objective is to win both games. He also said that despite the national team's 4-0 win over Vietnam in June, the focus now is to keep building and improving during the upcoming friendlies. 'Yes, we played well, we scored some good goals, we could have scored more. Positive night, special night at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
