Ted Danson reveals he turned down bigger role in Frasier 'several times'
Ted Danson has revealed why he turned down further appearances on Frasier, after Kelsey Grammar asked him to return 'several times'.
The pair famously shared the screen in iconic 80s sitcom Cheers, where Ted starred as bar owner Sam Malone, opposite his former colleague's efforts as stuffy psychiatrist Frasier Crane.
After Kelsey landed his very own spin-off, the Good Place star reprised his role for a one-off episode, which aired in 1995.
However, popping up on the Howie Mandel Does Stuff podcast, the 77-year-old opened up about why his brief stint in season two didn't lead to something more regular.
'He asked me several times, over the years, to be part of it, and I didn't,' he told the host. 'Not because I was angry at Kelsey or anything, mostly because I didn't know how to…
'How the f**k do you play Sam Malone in his 60s or now 70s?
'It's amusing to be an aging adolescent when you're in your 30s, 40s, but not when you're in your 70s. So I thought, I don't know how to do that.
'It wouldn't be the Cheers writers … I would have felt at sea. I wouldn't know how to do it. That's why I said no.'
Host Howie then questioned Ted on his tumultuous friendship with Kelsey over the years, and the latter's recent remarks that they had been 'talking about a couple of ideas', including something on the recently-canceled Frasier reboot.
'That was over the years,' he clarified. 'Recently, in the last year, I did say, 'Absolutely. Ask me and I will come do it'.
'Because I felt like I not only owed it to him, but I wanted to.
'If it came back and he asked me to do an episode or something? Yeah, I would.'
Ted's comments come after Kelsey made headlines about the future of Frasier – following the news that the revival had been axed by Paramount+ after two seasons.
The original series aired for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004, and won a whopping 37 Emmys in that time.
Three decades later, the actor led the way in a 2023 reboot, joined by a mostly new cast, including Nicholas Lyndhurst and Jack Cutmore-Scott.
Unfortunately, the episodes failed to impress and the project was shelved – but Kelsey teased that it could find a different home on another network, with Ted possibly getting involved. More Trending
'We'll end up somewhere where people are passionate about it,' he told the New York Post. 'Ted [Danson] and I might visit actually something together.
'We've been talking about a couple ideas. Maybe on Frasier. We don't know.'

'As long as it's still a relevant relationship, it will still be relevant for the show,' he added. '[Sam] and Frasier got along pretty well, discovered some things together about life. They could still do that.'

Police storm Rivals set to arrest actor accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
Just one hour after he filmed a scene starring Danny Dyer, an extra on TV show Rivals was arrested. Nigel Adams was reportedly led away in cuffs by six police officers while he was still in costume. The 45-year-old had been shooting a polo scene, with a second series of the hit Disney+ drama starring Emily Atack and David Tennant recently confirmed. Avon and Somerset Police are believed to have been tipped off that the former bricklayer was working on the Rivals set this week; hence, two cop cars showed up. His co-stars are said to have watched on in shock, with a source telling The Sun that it was 'very dramatic'. 'Everyone was in their costumes, and Danny was filming this polo scene when, an hour later, police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras,' added the insider. 'It was shocking.' Adams is said to have spent two nights in a cell before appearing in Bristol magistrates' court on Friday, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The supporting actor, who has also appeared in Doctor Who and Casualty, is alleged to have assaulted her at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, with cops called to the address on May 31 at 2am. In court, he entered no plea and was given conditional bail. He's due back in the city's crown court on July 7. In a statement, Rivals production company Happy Prince said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Corroborating their statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man from Locking, Somerset, had been arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. As well as the shows mentioned, Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. In 2022, he appeared in the movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which starred Ray Winstone. More Trending Those close to Adams have now said he's fearing the end of his career as an extra due to the arrest. 'He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing,' said a friend. They added: 'He's a bricklayer by trade, but he's been doing more and more TV work; he's been in loads of stuff. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show, he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon… Check back shortly for further updates. Corrie's Todd left in shock as Theo's daughter Millie drops major bombshell
Theo Silverton's (James Cartwright) daughter Millie (Kaitlyn Earley) once again threatens to drive a wedge in his relationship with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in Coronation Street next week. Millie has already caused a fair few problems for Todd. Earlier this year, her mum Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) walked in on Todd and Theo kissing, after accusing Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) of being the one sleeping with him. The family dynamic was never going to be the same again, though Theo did try. Following the shock, he drunkenly told Todd that things between them were over, before heading back to his car to his waiting wife. They subsequently reconciled, but Millie wasn't happy. She called at the undertakers demanding some answers from her dad, which made Todd feel uneasy. He then heard a car alarm sounding from a hearse outside, and realised she'd vandalised the vehicle with a tin of paint! Theo couldn't see the error of her ways and leapt to her defence.
