Why Travis Kelce's Chiefs decision ‘wasn't a tough one' after Super Bowl flop
Returning to the Chiefs for his 13th NFL season was an easy call for Travis Kelce.
The star tight end, who was at the center of retirement buzz earlier this year, told the media Wednesday he feels he's 'got a lot' more to prove following the Chiefs' Super Bowl flop to the Eagles in February.
'I love football. I don't think I really thought about it that much. My friends and family and the team and the guys and women in this building, I love coming into work every single day. It wasn't a very tough one for me. I know I'm getting older, but at the same time, I still feel like I got a lot that I can prove in this league … It really wasn't that hard of a decision for me,' said Kelce, who turns 36 in October.

A three-time Super Bowl champ and 10-time Pro Bowler, Kelce is coming off a statistically down year in which he tallied 823 receiving yards and three touchdowns, compared to 984 yards and five scores in 2023.
It marked the second straight season he failed to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards — a milestone he had reached seven consecutive times beginning in 2016.
With his quiet production, pundits speculated Kelce's heart was elsewhere, as he took on opportunities outside football, such as hosting Amazon's 'Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity.'

His profile also reached new heights as his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift intensified.
In the wake of the Chiefs' blowout Super Bowl 2025 loss, in which Kelce caught just four passes for 39 yards in the 40-22 defeat, the All-Pro tight end vowed to return with vengeance.
'I'm coming back, for sure,' Kelce told Pat McAfee in a text that was read on the ESPN star's self-titled program in late February.
'Gonna try and get to the best shape I've been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can't go out like that!!!!'

Kelce, rumored to have dropped 25 pounds this offseason, also addressed the chatter surrounding his reported weight loss Wednesday.
'First of all, I never said that,' Kelce said, per E! News. 'Don't believe everything you read on the internet.'

Kelce trained in Florida this offseason and was joined by Swift, 35, who wrapped her global Eras Tour last December after nearly two years on the road.

Kelce and the Chiefs open the season on Friday, Sept. 5 in São Paulo, Brazil, against the Chargers.

When smoke cleared and dust settled, three familiar faces were on the list. Two never played under the Commanders team name, but you get the idea. We all still have a soft place for all of them. Trent Williams (2010-19) Unfortunately, Trent Williams' career will be remembered for an ugly standoff with the front office, but for ten seasons, he was one of the best O-lineman this franchise has seen in a while. He earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and seven of his 11 Pro Bowl nods playing in the burgundy and gold. Champ Bailey (1999-2003) It feels like this can be stated now. If Washington had a time machine, they'd probably go back and rethink the trade that landed Clinton Portis in exchange for Champ Bailey and a second-round pick. Oh well, you live and you learn. Portis earned a Second-Team All Pro nod and Pro Bowl mention during the 2018 NFL season, but during his seven-year run in the DMV, Champ earned three First-Team All-Pro mentions with the Denver Broncos. Bailey also earned two of his four Second-Team All-Pro mentions and eight of his 12 Pro Bowl mentions in the Mile-High City. Not only that, he's a Pro Football Hall of Famer whose career in Denver outlasted Portis's time with Washington by three seasons. Yep! It's safe to state that Denver certainly won this trade. Bobby Wagner (2024-present) Bobby Wagner is the lone Commanders star still active whose name appears on ESPN's quarter century all-star squad. He'll probably be best remembered as a Seattle Seahawks legend, but his time with Washington has been very fruitful. Wagner earned a Pro Bowl nod, his tenth, and his fifth Second-Team All-Pro nod. Better yet, he's been a fantastic influence on the young stars on both sides of the ball. Braves GM makes Chris Sale stance clear as MLB trade deadline looms
For any fellow executives salivating while watching Chris Sale carve up the Mets on Wednesday night, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said to slow their roll. 'Zero (chance),' Anthopoulos said on 680 'The Fan' before Wednesday's 5-0 win. 'I've seen the speculation and that's why — it's completely ridiculous to me. We're not selling, especially someone that has club control beyond the current year. Will not happen. 'I never make definitive statements unless I'm going to stick to them. Because once you make definitive statements and then you go back on them, you're a liar and you're done. Will. Not. Happen. Bold, italicize it, caps. Sale, the reigning NL Cy Young winner, would be the team's most desirable piece — assuming Ronald Acuna Jr. is off limits — due to his standout performance and team-friendly contract. The lefty is making $22 million this year and the Braves hold an $18 million team option for next year. Sale owns a 2.52 ERA after throwing 8 2/3 scoreless innings against the Mets on Wednesday and has a 1.41 mark spanning his last 11 games after starting the year with a 6.63 ERA through four starts. 'We're not selling,' Anthopoulos said on the show. 'A month from now, we end up 30 games under or something crazy, I guess I would reconsider. 'We've got a talented club. It hasn't shown itself, clearly. These next two weeks leading into the All-Star break … are really important us. There's definitely a sense of urgency, there has been, but even more so now.'
