India has imported 9.74 lakh tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) during the April-June quarter to meet domestic demand, the government said on Tuesday. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel shared the data of DAP imports for the current year, as reported by the companies. As per the data, India imported 2.89 lakh tonnes of DAP in April, 2.36 lakh tonnes in May and 4.49 lakh tonnes in June.Imports of DAP, a key fertiliser, stood at 45.69 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 fiscal, 55.67 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, 65.83 lakh tonnes in 2022-23, 54.62 lakh tonnes in 2021-22, and 48.82 lakh tonnes during 2020-21."The government is ensuring adequate availability of fertilizers to meet the Kharif 2025 requirement...The requirement for chemical fertilizers during the 2025 Kharif season (is) marginally higher than that of the previous year, owing to expanded sowing coverage and favourable monsoon conditions," Patel said. From April 2010, the Centre has implemented Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) policy for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilisers.Under this, a fixed amount of subsidy, decided on an annual/bi-annual basis, is provided on notified P&K fertilisers depending on their nutrient content. The P&K fertilisers are covered under Open General License (OGL), and companies are free to import these fertilisers as per their business dynamics."The gap between demand (requirement) and production of fertilizers is met through imports. Further, to minimize the impact of supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical factors, the fertilizer companies have entered in long term arrangements with DAP-producing nations to ensure continuous supplies," Patel said.Imports of urea stood at 56.47 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, 70.42 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, 75.80 lakh tonnes during 2022-23, 91.36 lakh tonnes in 2021-22, and 98.28 lakh tonnes in 2020-2. After PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah Meets President Murmu Amid Parliament Disruptions
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday called on President Droupadi Murmu separately within hours at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here. It was not known the reasons behind the subsequent meetings of the prime minister and the home minister with the President. There have been no words either from the prime minister's office or the home minister's office about the meetings other than two posts on 'X' from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. "Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on 'X'. Hours later, the Rashtrapati Bhavan again wrote on 'X', "Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan." This was the first meeting of the prime minister with the President after his recent visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives. The meetings came against the backdrop of the logjam in Parliament over the Opposition's demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Except discussions in both Houses on Operation Sindoor, Parliament has seen little business ever since the Monsoon session began on July 21. Also, the Lok Sabha last week approved the extension of the President's rule in Manipur for six more months, while the Rajya Sabha is yet to take up the motion for discussion. The President's rule was imposed in the Northeastern state on February 13. The prime minister's meeting with the President also came days after US President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India and an unspecified penalty because of New Delhi's purchases of Russian military equipment and oil. The meetings also came nearly two weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 tendered his resignation as vice president to the President citing health grounds. The vice president also functions as the chairman of Rajya Sabha. The Election Commission had last week announced that election of vice president will take place on September 9. The electoral college for the vice-presidential election comprises all elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and all members of the Lok Sabha.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, here on Sunday, said Telangana is fast developing into a handloom hub with the proposed Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal sanctioned by the Centre expected to attract investments worth ₹10,000 crore providing employment to an estimated two lakh persons. The Modi government had also distributed 100 electronic jacquard weaving machines here and helped establish 31 handloom producer companies. Efforts are also on to revive the Himroo fabrics, Pithambari sarees and Armoor silk sarees, he said, at the inaugural of the week-long celebrations to mark National Handloom Day held in Shilparamam. The Centre is also aiding in setting up handloom clusters in Siddipet, Kamalapur, Dubbak and Warangal. Training has been provided for about 900 weavers in modern methods and 'Mudra' loans worth ₹70 crore were sanctioned, said the Minister. In Telangana, there are an estimated 48,000 artisans at work on 17 different kinds of handlooms, including Pochampalli Ikkat, Narayanapet cotton sarees and others which have attained international fame. The Centre is ready to consider any proposal to help the handloom sector, which forms a key component of the country's financial system, as it is second only to the agriculture sector with an estimated five crore people engaged either directly or indirectly. The Centre has been implementing a '5F' strategy like farm to fibre, fabric, fashion and foreign markets, for developing the sector in the last 11 years under the 'Make in India' programme. Handlooms sector constitutes 2.3% of the country's GDP, 13% of industrial output and 12% of exports making India the sixth largest exporter. Mr. Reddy said that in 2023-24, about three lakh crore rupees in exports were realised, and the Modi government plans to take it to ₹9 lakh crore rupees by 2030. Pension of ₹8,000 a month is being given to handloom weavers, a ₹2 lakh scholarship is being awarded for their children wanting to study higher studies, including textile design and about 20 weavers were sent to other countries for exhibitions, he added.
