Operation Kavach-8.0: 139 arrested, 133 cases filed in 24-hour drugs crackdown in Delhi
The operation was conducted between 6 pm on Wednesday and 6 pm on Thursday. It resulted in the seizure of 90.3 grams of heroin, 25.9 kg of ganja, 3.32 grams of cocaine, 4.63 grams of MDMA, 20.08 grams of amphetamine, and 12 buprenorphine tablets, said police.
The operation was carried out by over 350 teams from all 15 districts, the Crime Branch, and the Special Cell, covering 1,040 targeted locations. It was supervised by senior officers, including Special Commissioner of Police, Crime, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, and Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Surender Singh.
Alongside NDPS enforcement, 224 people were arrested in 217 Excise Act cases, with the seizure of 47,476 illicit quarter bottles of liquor. Thirty persons were held in 29 Arms Act cases, leading to the recovery of pistols, cartridges, and knives. In addition, 55 gamblers were arrested and over Rs 25,000 in cash was seized.
Police also prosecuted 2,031 violators under the Tobacco Act, seized over 1.7 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes, and intercepted e-cigarettes worth Rs 9.38 lakh. An 18-year-old linked to the anti-Lawrence Bishnoi gang was also caught with four semi-automatic pistols.
Officials said the crackdown has pushed major traffickers underground and disrupted smuggling networks.
'Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2,031 violators were prosecuted and one person was arrested with over 1.71 lakh prohibited foreign cigarettes and 469 e-cigarettes,' said the Srivastava.
Prohibited e-cigarettes worth around Rs 9.38 lakh were also seized from a shop in Safdarjung Enclave, police said.
The senior police officer said that since January 2025, a total of 1,439 narco-offenders have been arrested in 1,127 NDPS cases, with seizures of nearly 38 kg of heroin, over 3,000 kg of cannabis, and other contraband.

BHOPAL: A major heist at a bank by five helmet wearing men has stunned the police establishment in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The heist by the five men, one of whom had a firearm tucked under his belt, reportedly happened within just 18 minutes on Monday morning at the ESAF Small Finance Bank in Khitola area of rural Jabalpur. The 18 minutes incident led to the robbing of around 14 kg gold and Rs 5 lakh cash – totalling over Rs 10 crore. 'Multiple teams have been constituted and an alert also sounded in adjoining districts also, to track and nab the robbers,' Jabalpur district police superintendent Sampat Upadhyaya told TNIE. The early morning robbery which was caught on the CCTV cameras, happened at the bank, which didn't have a security guard. Five to six staffers were present in the bank at the time of the robbery by the five men, who came on motorcycles. Surprisingly, the incident was informed to the local police by the bank staffers, around 45 minutes after the robbery. As per police sources, the police are working on various angles in the case, including possibility of any insider involvement, as it seems that the robbers were well aware of the lack of security there. The concerned bank gave loans against mortgaged gold. The bank usually starts operations daily at 10.30 am, but due to the festive season, it is currently opening daily between 8 am and 9 am. Primary investigations have revealed that the robbers entered the bank one by one and threatened to shoot the staffers if they interrupted the robbery.

Six booked in fake marriage racket
Surat: Utran police registered an offence against six people, including the bride, in a fake marriage scam. The accused arranged and attended the marriage, allegedly distributing Rs 2.5 lakh as part of the matchmaking deal. Just 13 days after the wedding, the bride vanished from the groom's home, taking with her a gold chain and silver anklets. The victim, 27-year-old paan shop owner Gaurang Lumbhani from Utran, was introduced to the bride through his sister's brother-in-law's friend, Naresh Miyani, who claimed to have a suitable match. Although the bride belonged to a different caste, Gaurang agreed to meet her after seeing her photo. On March 30, Gaurang, along with Kamlesh Ghutla and Naresh Miyani, met the woman—introduced as Kajal Parmar—along with her 'siblings' Lala Parmar and Swati Parmar. That same day, Lala visited Gaurang's home to finalise arrangements, where it was agreed that Gaurang's family would pay Rs 2.5 lakhs to Kajal's family. Naresh, the chief mediator, was present. When Gaurang contacted her, Kajal claimed she did not receive her share of the money, alleging that the mediators—Naresh, Kamlesh, Raju Bhadiyadara, and others—pocketed it all, and told him not to call again. Gaurang then discovered that Kajal was actually Sayra, a divorcee with an eight-year-old child. Lala was Divyang Mistry, and none of the people posing as Kajal's relatives were related at all. They concocted the entire story to deceive him. When Gaurang threatened police action, Naresh refunded Rs 65,000 and Kamlesh Rs 20,000. Woman held in Delhi for smuggling 12.55 kg cannabis from West Bengal via train
New Delhi, Aug 11 (PTI) A 38-year-old woman was arrested in Delhi for allegedly transporting more than 12 kilogram of cannabis concealed in trolley bag from West Bengal via train, police said on Monday. According to police, she was supplying the contraband as part of an interstate drug supply network. The accused, Archana Manna, from Kolkata, was arrested at Ashram Flyover while travelling in an autorickshaw with her daughter and two grandchildren, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that Manna, moved to Delhi in 2014 and has been working as a domestic help. Her husband died two decades ago. She was allegedly lured into drug trafficking by acquaintances in Govind Puri, who offered her Rs 10,000 for each delivery. Police said she was trained by the network in using encrypted apps and deleting call logs to avoid detection. Videos found on her phone showed her discussing the quality of ganja during purchase, they added. They said that 12.55 kilogram of ganja, packed in 12 polythene packets and concealed in a trolley bag, was seized from her possession. The contraband was confirmed to be ganja by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team at the spot, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora said the operation followed specific intelligence received on June 16 about a woman transporting cannabis from Odisha and West Bengal to Delhi by train. Police were deployed at Kashmere Gate railway station to monitor the suspect. The accused managed to slip out of the station amid the rush but was later traced to an autorickshaw heading towards Govind Puri. She was intercepted at Ashram Flyover and the narcotics were seized after due legal procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation into the supply chain, believed to operate across Odisha, West Bengal, and Delhi, is continuing.
