Hugh Bowman secures second Silver Saddle on Shergar Cup day
Champion jockey Hugh Bowman has once again stood up on the world stage when claiming his second Shergar Cup Silver Saddle.
The Australian hoop won the opening race on the Ascot card with Vintage Clarets before piloting two other gallopers to top three finishes and it was enough to give him the edge as leading rider of the international riding series.

'We've had a good afternoon,' Bowman said.
'Obviously we won the first race and have a had a couple of others who ran very well.
'It's my second Silver Saddle in three attempts.
'It's good fun and a more relaxed environment than a normal raceday, particularly when you're riding against different jockeys from different corners of the world.
'It's usually in a major race when the stakes are very high and it's very important for everyone. As important as this is, it's a little more relaxed.'
It was the third year straight the opening race went to Rest of the World with the team also picking up points with Venture Capital running third in the race.
'I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to ride here this year, representing the Rest of the World team, and to be back at the Royal Ascot track, it's hallowed ground, it's an honour,' Bowman said.
'It certainly helps, because it is a unique track. When you ride here, regardless of the occasion, there's a sense of pride and a sense of occasion.
'So it's a very testing track for horse and rider, and having been here before certainly helps.'

Bowman's second Shergar Cup Silver Saddle came 18 years after his winning debut in 2007 and he joins a handful of jockeys to win the medal on multiple occasions, including Fran Berry, Gerald Mosse and Richard Hughes.
A total of 32 points was enough to give Bowman the victory with Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Robbie Dolan finishing equal third on 25 points.
The team riding series was won by the Asian team comprising of Suraj Narredu, Ryusei Sakai and Mirai Iwata.

Greatest crowd catch ever seen as Australia defeat South Africa
Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. Australia's win over South Africa in the opening T20 clash has been overshadowed by one of the greatest crowd catches ever seen. Tim David turned on the fireworks early for Australia as they recorded the 17 run win, but it was a man sitting in the front row that stole the show. In the 12th over of Australia's innings, David pulled a delivery off the bowling of Corbin Bosch that sailed towards the stands. The low soaring shot saw fans at Marrara Stadium attempt to haul it in, but it was one man who proved he had what it takes. And to make the catch even better, he did it while holding two beer cans in his other hand. Yes you've read that correctly, in his right hand he was holding onto two beers before hauling in the catch with his vacant left hand. Watch the iconic moment in the video player above A feat for the ages. Make him our new PM. Footage of the moment quickly went viral with cricket fans in awe of what the unknown individual had just produced. Mark Howard on Fox Cricket said: 'A nice snare in the crowd. Two cans in the right hand, the kookaburra in the left. Cool and casual.' wrote on X: 'CALLING IT - BEST CROWD CATCH OF THE YEAR AND IT'S ONLY AUGUST!' Another wrote: 'Legend status unlocked: Two tinnies, one snare.' A fourth added: 'Probably the best crowd catch of all time.' Fans in the area loved it. On the field it was the Aussies who proved too good against their opponents with Tim David once again leading the way. Australia found themselves in trouble after their top order failed to deliver any meaningful scoreboard impact. The Aussies quickly fell to be 3/30 before finding themselves in real strife at 6/75. Then Tim David clicked into gear. The middle order monster flipped the script and went after the South African bowlers as he sent the white ball to all parts of the ground. He quickly handed the momentum back to the Aussies as he raced to his half century from only 29 deliveries. His innings ultimately came to an end in the 18th over when he was caught after scoring 83 runs from 52 balls as Australia finished with 178 runs on the board. South Africa looked on track to chase down the Aussie total with opener Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs turning the screws with a 72-run partnership. Josh Hazlewood however put an end to their run when he removed Stubbs after capturing a bottom edge. Then it all unraveled for the tourists. Three balls later Hazlewood struck again by catching the outside edge of George Linde with Glenn Maxwell comfortably taking the catch at slip. Adam Zampa then got in on the action in the next over as he removed Corbin Bosch and Senuran Muthusamy in consecutive deliveries. A freakish Maxwell juggling catch over the boundary line to remove Rickelton ended South Africa's faint hopes as the visitors finished 9/161. The second T20 contest will take place on Tuesday from 7:15pm (AEST) at Marrara Stadium, Darwin. Originally published as Greatest crowd catch ever seen as Australia defeat South Africa

Tim David stars as Australia beat South Africa in T20 clash
Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. Australia was made to work for its first victory of the 2025–26 summer, defeating South Africa by 17 runs in front of a capacity crowd in Darwin. In the first clash of the five-match white-ball series, the Aussies achieved a historic milestone as they won a record-breaking ninth T20I in a row. After a promising start — including a first-ball six from captain Mitch Marsh and a cameo 35 off 13 balls from Cam Green — the hosts collapsed under their own volition. Tim David was the shining light of the Australian's batting unit, putting together one of his most impressive performances in a T20I jumper, blasting 83 as his teammates fell around him. David was forced to bat with the tail, namely Ben Dwarshuis, the duo managing to put together a 59-run partnership that dragged the Australians towards a competitive total - 178. 'It felt a bit two-paced to be honest,' David said when speaking to Fox Sports on the boundary at the innings break. . Tim David lifts his bat to the crowd after being dismissed for 83. Picture: Getty Images 'That was definitely a lot more balls than I was hoping I would face. 'I've batted with the tail a lot throughout my career, in the position I play. That probably just happened a lot longer tonight. 'Any opportunity to bat, once you get in, that's the best part. The first 10 balls are a bit nervy… once you're going it's good fun.' South African teenage weapon Kwena Maphaka was the visitors best with the Kookaburra, finishing with figures of 4-20 and taking the crucial poles of Mitch Owen and David. Chasing 179, the South Africans fell short at the hands of the Aussie bowlers who once again saved the day. Video Player is loading. Play Video This is a modal window. Cam Green (35), while Aussies second best, fell foul of erratic shot selection when he and David were starting to find some rhythm, and walked before the ball had even landed in South African hands. Travis Head (2), Josh Inglis (0), Mitchell Owen (2) and Glenn Maxwell (1) however all went cheaply and at one stage it appeared the Aussies would fall well short of a competitive total. The veteran pulled off another of his signature boundary screamers in the final over of the match. Searching for the maximum, South Africa's opener Ryan Rickelton (71) smacked Dwarshis over his head to Maxwell at long-on. The Victorian then caught the ball, jumped over the boundary rope, threw the ball back infield and snared the catch in style. . Western Bulldogs defeat Melbourne in thriller to keep Finals hopes alive, AFL 2025 news
Don't miss out on the headlines from AFL. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Western Bulldogs have survived an almighty scare that could well have ended their finals aspirations, defeating a valiant Melbourne outfit by one goal on Sunday afternoon. In one of the games of the season, a six-goal spree from the Demons in the third quarter at one stage looked like leaving the Dogs' finals fate out of their hands — but Luke Beveridge's side rallied late to win 15.15 (105) to the Demons' 15.9 (99). FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Star Aaron Naughton starred up forward again with his fourth bag of five goals or more in six weeks, including a critical final quarter major to give his side a mini buffer. Forward-turned-defender Daniel Turner snagged a goal with 52 seconds remaining to give the Demons a live chance of drawing the match, but a Sam Darcy mark back-with-the-flight all but sealed their fate. 'No one deserves to lose this match,' 1988 Brownlow Medalist Gerard Healy said on Fox Footy inside the final minute. Laitham Vandermeer was concerningly taken from the ground after a heavy collision during the final quarter, leaving the Bulldogs vulnerable after already making their substitute before three-quarter time. Aaron Naughton was at his destructive best on Sunday. (Photo by Josh Chadwick/AFL Photos/via Getty Images) DOGS AVOID ULTIMATE FINALS HEARTBREAK AS 'ALL-AUSTRALIAN'-BOUND STAR LEADS CHARGE If there was one round the Bulldogs didn't want to come up against a side whose coach had been sacked, it was this one. The record of such club's immediately after a changing of the guard is stark, leaving Luke Beveridge's side in some ways up against it before the first bounce was even had. It was a tussle between both sides across the first half, but the Bulldogs looked content in registering five more shots on goal than their opponents to hold a 10-point lead at the main break. The supremely stunning season of Ed Richards headlined the match early, as the 26-year-old once again put his name forward for higher honours. The defender-turned-midfielder blew the game apart on Sunday afternoon, amassing 20 disposals, eight score involvements, six clearances and 92 ranking points all before half time. 'The bloke that's led the charge right from the word 'go' has been Ed Richards — who's got to be an All-Australian this year,' 1988 Brownlow Medal winner Gerard Healy said to Fox Footy at half time. Ed Richards has been in stunning form throughout the season. Picture: Michael Klein 'He's just been so clean. He had five clearances at quarter time … (and) absolutely makes the right decisions. 'He's turned himself (from) one of the best ground ball players in defensive 50, to one of the elite midfielders in the competition.' But after half time, Beveridge's Bulldogs were fronted with a wave of Melbourne's best free-flowing football — a brand that fans, and recently departed coach Simon Goodwin, have been crying out for most of this season. Incredibly, 21 of the match's 30 goals came after half time to speak to the change in style from both clubs. The Demons were able to force a 31-point turnaround in less than a quarter to turn the game — and the Dogs' finals hopes — on their head. But alas, the cool heads at Whitten Oval made sure their charge to September will last another week, with six final quarter goals enough to undo all of Melbourne's hard work. Veteran star Tom Liberatore finished the match with 24 disposals and 12 clearances, while skipper Marcus Bontempelli notched up 33 touches, seven inside 50s and 685 metres gained. 'PAYING DIVIDENDS': STAR'S WHITE-HOT RUN CONTINUES TO SEE DOGS HOME Jeremy Cameron has stolen the headlines this season up forward amid his race for 100 goals in a season, but the last six weeks was truly been all about Aaron Naughton. The Bulldogs key forward has gone berserk in the last six weeks, with his four-goal haul on Sunday afternoon taking his tally in the last six games to 29 — inclusive of three five-goal hauls and a career-best bag of seven. His meteoric rise in form coincides well with the return of Sam Darcy from injury, leaving Naughton playing on each side's second key defender; allowing him to expose the opposition both aerially and leading up at the ball carrier. 'I'm just trying to get to as many contest as possible (and) work really hard,' Naughton told Fox Footy straight after the final siren. 'The more that you get to the footy, the more that things can happen. I'm just happy with the way that I'm finishing in front of goal now, I'm really confident with my routine and it's paying dividends. 'I knew I put in the work, so I knew it (my form) was going to change eventually.' Three-time Geelong premiership player Tom Hawkins added on Naughton post-game: 'His willingness to get involved in the contest ... it's the work he does off the ball.' 'For any young forward out there listening, that is wonderful advice for anyone coming through the ranks. He was a star today.' DEES DEFENDER DEALT TOUGH TASK... BUT STILL SHOWS PROMISING SIGNS In an era where star key defenders have been few and far between at the top level, Melbourne debutant Jed Adams drew plenty of praise amid a daunting task. Adams, who is at the back end of his third year on the Demons' list, had to bide his time in the VFL with Casey for 51 games before getting an opportunity at the top level. The 21-year-old was forced to runt he gauntlet straight away, at times playing on Aaron Naughton who ran amuck for his fourth bag in six weeks. But in between opponents, Adams showed promise aerially and one-on-one to hint at the next generation for Melbourne beyond Jake Lever and Steven May. 'Hasn't he started well! He hasn't had a lot of ball himself … but he looks comfortable. He's a big unit and looks mobile,' Gerard Healy said of Adams at the start of the third term. Tom Hawkins added: 'I like the way that he's backed himself in. Early on, we saw a nice one-on-one contest that he halved … he's been really impressive.'
